Background: Chimeric Antigen Receptor T-cell (CAR-T) therapy has revolutionized the treatment landscape for various hematological malignancies. However, it is associated with a range of hematologic complications, including severe and often prolonged thrombocytopenia. Currently, there are no known effective preventative or management measures against CAR-T-induced thrombocytopenia.

AbstractMorning Report is a time-honored tradition where physicians-in-training present cases to their colleagues and clinical experts to collaboratively examine an interesting patient presentation. The Morning Report section seeks to carry on this tradition by presenting a patient's chief concern and story, inviting the reader to develop a differential diagnosis and discover the diagnosis alongside the authors of the case. This report examines the story of a 26-year-old woman who developed acute hepatocellular liver injury following a cesarean delivery for fetal distress.

Skin serves as the first-order protective barrier against the environment and any significant disruptions in skin integrity must be promptly restored. Despite significant advances in therapeutic strategies, effective management of large chronic skin wounds remains a clinical challenge. Dermal fibroblasts are the primary cell type responsible for remodeling the extracellular matrix (ECM) in wound healing.

The function of transmembrane protein 199 (TMEM199) in cancer development has rarely been studied thus far. We report the nuclear localization of the TMEM199 protein and further analyzed the truncated fractions that mediate its nuclear localization. Cut&Tag assay globally explores the nuclear-located TMEM199 functions and tests its influence on the immune checkpoint PD-L1 and .

We sought to determine whether clinical, imaging or laboratory features in patients hospitalized for CAP in whom PCR is positive for a respiratory virus enable exclusion of bacterial coinfection so that antibiotics can be withheld.
Methods: For this prospective study, we selected patients in whom an etiologic diagnosis was likely to be reached, namely those who provided a high-quality sputum sample at or shortly after admission, and in whom PCR was done to test for a respiratory virus.

Effective repair of large bone defects through bone tissue engineering (BTE) remains an unmet clinical challenge. Successful BTE requires optimal and synergistic interactions among biocompatible scaffolds, osteogenic factors, and osteoprogenitors to form a highly vascularized microenvironment for bone regeneration and osseointegration. We sought to develop a highly effective BTE system by using 3D printed citrate-based mPOC/hydroxyapatite (HA) composites laden with BMP9-stimulated human urine stem cells (USCs).

Purpose: To study if patients who would be deemed high-risk individuals by traditional classifications of American Society of Anesthesiologists (ASA) or the updated guidelines of ASA Practice Advisory (ASAPA) can safely undergo surgery under wide-awake local anesthesia, no tourniquet in a procedure room setting without any increased risks of complications.
Methods: We analyzed 436 surgeries performed in our procedure room over a 4-year period. No medical comorbidities precluded a patient from surgery within the procedure room, and no preoperative clearance was required.

Background: Bronchoscopic lung volume reduction (BLVR) is a minimally invasive procedure used to reduce shortness of breath and improve functionality in some patients with emphysema. While BLVR is often effective for improving dyspnea by causing target lobe atelectasis, the treatment effect can sometimes be lost. This study reviews the incidence of revision bronchoscopies in patients who lost or never achieved target lobe atelectasis following BLVR.

Background: American Thyroid Association guidelines support active surveillance (AS) for low-risk papillary thyroid cancer (PTC). We developed a calculator to aid patient selection.
Methods: From 2004 to 2020, 148,904 PTC patients were selected from the surveillance, epidemiology, and end results (SEER) database.

Purpose: Cubital tunnel syndrome (CuTS) is the second most common upper-extremity neuropathy and can cause debilitating symptoms. Patients presenting to care with severe CuTS can be left with permanent weakness and numbness despite treatment. The aim of this study was to examine the relationship between area-level deprivation and the severity of CuTS on presentation to a hand surgeon.

Cancer immunotherapies with antibodies blocking immune checkpoint molecules are clinically active across multiple cancer entities and have markedly improved cancer treatment. Yet, response rates are still limited, and tumour progression commonly occurs. Soluble and cell-bound factors in the tumour microenvironment negatively affect cancer immunity.

Bronchoscopic lung volume reduction (BLVR) is a minimally invasive intervention that improves dyspnea and quality of life in select individuals with emphysema. Echocardiography is the initial screening tool for pulmonary hypertension (PH) in patients evaluated for BLVR. Multiple BLVR and lung volume reduction surgery (LVRS) trials have used and right ventricular systolic pressure (RVSP) of 45 mm Hg as a cutoff for potential significant PH.

Lymphoma is the third leading cause of cancer among children and adolescents/young adults (AYAs) in the United States, with later-stage diagnoses often being linked to worse outcomes. Continuous health insurance coverage is crucial for facilitating early cancer detection and diagnosis. Among Medicaid-insured children and AYAs diagnosed with lymphoma, this study examines whether the timing of Medicaid enrollment and coverage continuity are associated with stage at diagnosis.

Background: As liver metastasis is the most common cause of mortality in patients with colorectal cancer, studying colorectal cancer liver metastasis (CLM) microenvironment is essential for improved understanding of tumor biology and to identify novel therapeutic targets.
Methods: We used a multiplex immunofluorescence platform to study tumor associated macrophage (TAM) polarization and adaptive T cell subtypes in tumor samples from 105 CLM patients (49 without and 56 with preoperative chemotherapy).
Results: CLM exhibited M2 macrophage polarization, and helper T cells were the prevalent adaptive T cell subtype.
