Original Research: Nurses' Perceptions of the Role of Nursing Organizations in Promoting Engagement with the Sustainable Development Goals: A Global Study.

Background: RNs are integral to achieving the United Nations' 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Professional nursing organizations can play a significant role in educating and preparing nurses to work more effectively toward achieving the SDGs. While there is much literature that speaks to the importance of nurses engaging in these goals, there is a lack of research that has explored nurses' perceptions of the role of professional nursing organizations in promoting SDG-related knowledge and engagement.

The Calcium-Sensing Receptor in the Thick Ascending Limb and the Renal Response to Hypercalcemia.

Background: The parathyroid calcium-sensing receptor (CASR) controls the release of parathyroid hormone (PTH) in response to changes in serum calcium levels. Activation of the renal CASR increases urinary calcium excretion and is particularly important when CASR-dependent reductions in PTH fail to lower serum calcium. However, the role of the renal CASR in protecting against hypercalcemia and the direct effects of chronic CASR activation on tubular calcium handling remains to be fully elucidated.

Systematic Review: Efficacy of Medical Therapy on Outcomes Important to Pediatric Patients with X-Linked Hypophosphatemia.

Objective: To examine the evidence addressing the management of X-linked hypophosphatemia (XLH) in children to inform treatment recommendations.

Methods: We searched Embase, MEDLINE, Web of Science, and Cochrane Central up to May 2023. Eligible studies included RCTs and observational studies of individuals less than 18yrs with clinically or genetically confirmed XLH.

A systematic review of the comparative effects of sound and music interventions for intensive care unit patients' outcomes.

Background: Despite syntheses of evidence showing efficacy of music intervention for improving psychological and physiological outcomes in critically ill patients, interventions that include nonmusic sounds have not been addressed in reviews of evidence. It is unclear if nonmusic sounds in the intensive care unit (ICU) can confer benefits similar to those of music.

Objective: The aim of this study was to summarise and contrast available evidence on the effect of music and nonmusic sound interventions for the physiological and psychological outcomes of ICU patients based on the results of randomised controlled trials.

Prevalence and impact of vasomotor symptoms due to menopause among women in Canada: A subgroup analysis from an international cross-sectional survey of Women with Vasomotor Symptoms Associated with Menopause (WARM Study).

Objective: The aim of the study was to assess the prevalence of postmenopausal vasomotor symptoms (VMS) and the impact of VMS and related treatment patterns among perimenopausal and postmenopausal Canadian women.

Methods: A subgroup analysis of data from a cross-sectional online survey of women aged 40-65 years conducted November 4, 2021, through January 17, 2022, evaluated the prevalence of moderate/severe VMS among postmenopausal Canadian women. The analysis also assessed survey responses from perimenopausal and postmenopausal Canadian women with moderate/severe VMS who completed the Menopause-Specific Quality of Life questionnaire, Work Productivity and Activity Impairment questionnaire, and the Patient-Reported Outcomes Measurement Information System Sleep Disturbances-Short Form 8b and answered questions about treatment patterns and attitudes toward treatments.

Promoting Psychological Health and Safety in Canadian Healthcare Organizations.

This article analyzes findings from the Health Standards Organization's new Global Workforce Survey (GWS). The GWS enables healthcare organizations to measure, analyze and benchmark their workforce's perceptions of working conditions, safety culture and care quality against peers. The GWS measures key features of The National Standard of Canada for Psychological Health and Safety in the Workplace (CSA Group and Bureau de normalisation du Québec 2013; MHCC 2013).

A systematic review and meta-analysis of eyespot anti-predator mechanisms.

Eyespot patterns have evolved in many prey species. These patterns were traditionally explained by the eye mimicry hypothesis, which proposes that eyespots resembling vertebrate eyes function as predator avoidance. However, it is possible that eyespots do not mimic eyes: according to the conspicuousness hypothesis, eyespots are just one form of vivid signals where only conspicuousness matters.

Exploring the metaverse in the education of healthcare students: A scoping review.

Objective: to map the literature on the incorporation of the metaverse in the education of undergraduate healthcare students.

Method: scoping review following the recommendations of the JBI and Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses Extension for Scoping Reviews (PRISMA-ScR), performed on Web of Science, Medical Literature Analysis and Retrieval System Online (MEDLINE) via PubMed, Embase, Scopus, Cumulative Index to Nursing and Allied Health (CINAHL), Latin American and Caribbean Health Sciences Literature (LILACS) and ProQuest.

Results: a total of 23 records were included, published between 2020 and 2023, and developed in 10 countries.

Understanding Experiences of Headache-Sufferers Attending Emergency Departments Through Photovoice.

Objective: Our aim was to explore the experiences of individuals receiving emergency department (ED) care for acute headaches.

Background: Patients with headache exacerbations commonly present to EDs. This study explored the experiences of adult patients during the exacerbation period, specifically using photovoice.

Prominin-1 (PROM1) variants are associated with inherited, non-syndromic vision loss. We used CRISPR/Cas9 to induce prom1-null mutations in Xenopus laevis and then tracked retinal disease progression from the ages of 6 weeks to 3 years. We found that prom1-null-associated retinal degeneration in frogs was age-dependent and involved retinal pigment epithelium (RPE) dysfunction preceding photoreceptor degeneration.

Long-Term Stability, Sterility, And Cost-Effectiveness of 0.05% Chlorhexidine Gluconate as Antisepsis for Intravitreal Injection.

Commercially available chlorhexidine gluconate (CHG) has a beyond-use date of 24 h. This study evaluated the stability and sterility of 0.05% CHG for 30 days after opening and compared its cost to povidone iodine (PI) for intravitreal injection antisepsis.

How Should Risks and Benefits of Short-Acting Opioids Be Evaluated in the Care of Inpatients With OUD?

Severe opioid withdrawal, risk of patient-initiated discharge, and some inpatients' use of unregulated substances prompt clinical and ethical questions considered in this commentary on a case. Short-acting opioids can be used to manage inpatients' pain and opioid use disorder (OUD) withdrawal symptoms. Including evidence-based interventions-such as naloxone kits, substance use equipment, and supervised consumption-in some inpatients' care plans may make those patients safer and reduce their risk of death.
