Anomalous left pulmonary artery: case reports exploring anatomic variants.

Background: Pulmonary artery sling (PAS) is a rare congenital anomaly where the left pulmonary artery (LPA) branches from the right pulmonary artery, compressing the trachea and esophagus and frequently leading to respiratory distress in infants. Surgical intervention, such as LPA reimplantation or translocation, is crucial to relieve airway compression and restore normal pulmonary function.

Case Presentation: This report highlights varied LPA anatomies, including a unique case of an anomalous LPA without true sling formation but causing tracheal compression, alongside two typical PAS cases.

Bright biocompatible fluorescent imaging dyes with red to near-infrared (NIR) emissions are ideal candidates for fluorescence microscopy applications. Pyrene-benzothiazolium hemicyanine dyes are a new class of lysosome-specific probes reported on recently. In this work, we conduct a detailed implementation study for a pyrene-benzothiazolium derivative, BTP, to explore its potential imaging applications in fluorescence microscopy.

Nail-plate combination constructs versus single traditional constructs for distal femur fractures: a systematic review and meta-analysis of comparative studies.

Objectives: Distal femur fractures (DFF) are frequently treated surgically with single traditional constructs (STC), such as with a lateral plate or intramedullary nail, although nail-plate combination constructs (NPCC) are gaining attention. As plants continue to respond to global warming with phenological shifts, our understanding of the importance of short-lived heat events and seasonal weather cues has lagged relative to our understanding of plant responses to broad shifts in mean climate conditions. Here, we explore the importance of warmer-than-average days in driving shifts in phenophase duration for spring-flowering woodland herbs across one growing season. We harnessed the combined power of community science and public gardens, engaging more than 30 volunteers to monitor shifts in phenology (documenting movement from one phenophase to the next) for 198 individual plants of 14 species twice per week for the 2023 growing season (March-October) across five botanic gardens in the midwestern and southeastern US.

We examined changes in PTSD symptoms among women who experienced intimate partner violence and received one of two evidence-based interventions. We conducted a secondary analysis of a completed randomized, double-blind clinical trial, which demonstrated efficacy in reducing PTSD symptoms.

The superior ophthalmic vein is a valveless vein that drains into the cavernous sinus; for this reason, SOVT can present with dire complications such as cavernous sinus thrombosis in addition to debilitating permanent ophthalmoplegia and permanent vision loss if left untreated.
