Development of a Direct Pulp-capping Model for the Evaluation of Pulpal Wound Healing and Reparative Dentin Formation in Mice.

Dental pulp is a vital organ of a tooth fully protected by enamel and dentin. When the pulp is exposed due to cariogenic or iatrogenic injuries, it is often capped with biocompatible materials in order to expedite pulpal wound healing. The ultimate goal is to regenerate reparative dentin, a physical barrier that functions as a "biological seal" and protects the underlying pulp tissue.

Improving The Oral Health Care Capacity Of Federally Qualified Health Centers.

Despite efforts that increased dental visits at federally qualified health centers (FQHCs) by 65 percent between 2007 and 2014, only 21 percent of FQHC patients received dental services in 2015-not altogether surprising, given that most such facilities do not offer dental services on site. Many of these facilities are part of multisite organizations that offer dental services at other locations; however, sites with co-located dental and medical services often serve only a fraction of their primary care patients. This article describes an initiative, funded by First 5 LA and led by the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA), designed to improve access to and quality of oral health care for young children at twenty Los Angeles County FQHCs with co-located medical and dental services.

Behavior-associated self-report items in patient charts as predictors of dental appointment avoidance.

Dentally anxious patients with long-term avoidance behavior may experience treatment complications and induce stress in the dentist. Since dental anxiety scales are seldom used clinically, it is valuable to investigate the strength of behavior-associated items in the current patient chart in predicting canceled or missed appointments. Charts from a sample of patients (N=357) who visited the UCLA Dental Center January 2006 to June 2006 were examined for self-reports of depression, moodiness, nervousness, and anxiety.

Effect of application technique and dentin bonding agent interaction on shear bond strength.

This study evaluated the interaction of five clinical application techniques and the shear bond strength of four DBAs (OptiBond FL, Clearfil SE Bond, PQ1 and Prime & Bond NT). A hybrid resin composite (Herculite XRV restorative resin) was attached to human dentin surfaces using five application techniques: Group A--adhesive spread with a 3M brush for 30 seconds, followed by compressed air 0.5 cm from the surface for one second to remove the excess adhesive.
