January 2025

Key Laboratory of Brain, Cognition and Education Sciences of Ministry of Education; Institute for Brain Research and Rehabilitation, Guangdong Key Laboratory of Mental Health and Cognitive Science, and Center for Studies of Psychological Application, South China Normal University, Guangzhou, China.

Oligodendrocytes (OLs), the myelin-forming cells of the central nervous system (CNS), develop from OL precursor cells (OPCs) through a complex process involving significant morphological changes that are critically dependent on the dynamic interactions between cytoskeletal networks. Growth arrest-specific 2-like protein 1 (GAS2L1) is a cytoskeletal linker protein that mediates the cross-talk between actin filaments and microtubules. However, its role in OL and myelin development remains unknown.

Prediction of cognitive decline in Parkinson's disease based on MRI radiomics and clinical features: A multicenter study.

CNS Neurosci Ther

June 2024

Center for Rehabilitation Medicine, Department of Radiology, Zhejiang Provincial People's Hospital (Affiliated People's Hospital), Hangzhou Medical College, Hangzhou, Zhejiang, China.

Objective: To develop and validate a multimodal combinatorial model based on whole-brain magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) radiomic features for predicting cognitive decline in patients with Parkinson's disease (PD).

Methods: This study included a total of 222 PD patients with normal baseline cognition, of whom 68 had cognitive impairment during a 4-year follow-up period. All patients underwent MRI scans, and radiomic features were extracted from the whole-brain MRI images of the training set, and dimensionality reduction was performed to construct a radiomics model.

Defensins are a class of small antimicrobial peptides that play a crucial role against pathogens. However, recent research has highlighted defensins exhibit the ability to influence cell cycle checkpoints, promoting or inhibiting specific phases such as G1 arrest or S/M transition. By regulating the cell cycle, defensins impact the proliferation of normal and cancerous cells, with implications for cancer development and progression.

Comparative analysis of transnasal endoscopic reconstruction techniques for managing cerebrospinal fluid rhinorrhea in skull base defects.

J Clin Neurosci

July 2024

Department of Otolaryngology Head and Neck Surgery, West China Hospital, Sichuan University, No. 37, Guoxue Lane, Chengdu 610041, China. Electronic address:

The nasal skull base is located into the deep position of nasal cavity and closely related to important nerves and vessels. The complete removal of tumors in this area poses a complex surgical challenge. In order to investigate the clinical efficacy of utilizing free middle turbinate mucosa (FMT), fascia lata, and pedicled nasal septum flap (known as the Hadad-Bassagasteguy flap, HBF) for the treatment of cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) rhinorrhea, a retrospective analysis was conducted on clinical data from 65 patients who underwent skull base reconstruction following endoscopic resection of nasal-skull base tumors.

Comparative evaluation of mechanical injury methods for establishing stable tracheal stenosis animal models.

Sci Rep

January 2024

Department of Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery, West China Hospital, Sichuan University, Chengdu, 610041, Sichuan Province, China.

The study aimed to assess the stability of various mechanical injury techniques in creating tracheal stenosis animal models using endoscopic assistance and investigate the viability of tracheal stoma in this process. Twenty-six healthy adult New Zealand white rabbits were randomly assigned to an experimental and control group. The experimental group underwent tracheal incision followed by steel brush scraping with endoscopic assistance, while the control group received nylon brush scraping.

December 2023

Department of Gynecology and Obstetrics, Key Laboratory of Birth Defects and Related Diseases of Women and Children, Ministry of Education, West China Second Hospital, Sichuan University, Chengdu, Sichuan, China.

Synchronous endometrial and ovarian carcinoma (SEOC) is the most common combination of primary double cancer in the female reproductive system. The etiology and pathogenesis of SEOC remain unclear, and clinically, it is often misdiagnosed as metastatic cancer, affecting the formulation of treatment plans and prognosis for patients. This article provides a review of its epidemiology, pathological and clinical characteristics, risk factors, pathogenesis, diagnosis, treatment, and prognosis.

Liraglutide combined with metformin treatment for obese people with type 2 diabetes mellitus: a systematic review and meta-analysis.

Ir J Med Sci

December 2023

Affiliated Hospital of Sichuan Nursing Vocational College, The Third People's Hospital of Sichuan Province, Chengdu, 610199, People's Republic of China.

Aim: To assess clinical efficacy and safety of liraglutide combined with metformin (LMT) in obese patients with type 2 diabetes (ODP) by conducting a meta-analysis of randomized controlled trials (RCTs).

Methods: PubMed, EMBASE, Cochrane Library, CNKI, CNKI, and VIP databases were systematically searched for randomized controlled trials (RCTs) through January 1, 2015 to investigate the effectiveness of liraglutide combined with metformin treatment (LMT) in obesity patients with type 2 diabetes (ODP). Meta-analysis (using generic inverse variance random effects model) was performed when there were two or more studies reporting on the same evaluation indicators.

Background: Diabetes mellitus is a spectrum of metabolic disorders characterized by hyperglycemia and shows a growing global public health problem in the elderly. Resveratrol presents antiaging, anti-inflammatory, antitumor antioxidant, and cardioprotective activities. The purpose of this study was to investigate the ameliorative effects of resveratrol on blood glucose, insulin metabolism, lipid profile, renal function, inflammation, and nutrient sensing systems in the elderly patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus.

A 3D-printed biphasic calcium phosphate scaffold loaded with platelet lysate/gelatin methacrylate to promote vascularization.

J Mater Chem B

April 2022

State Key Laboratory of Oral Diseases & National Clinical Research Center for Oral Diseases & Engineering Research Center of Oral Translational Medicine, Ministry of Education & National Engineering Laboratory for Oral Regenerative Medicine, West China Hospital of Stomatology, Sichuan University, Chengdu 610041, China.

3D-printed biphasic calcium phosphate (BCP) scaffolds show great clinical application potential in bone tissue engineering; however, vascularization of the scaffold is a crucial step for bone regeneration and is still difficult to be controlled. To enhance scaffold vascularization, a novel bioactive scaffold loaded with platelet lysate/gelatin methacrylate (PL/GelMA) in a BCP scaffold was proposed for promoting vascularization. The PL/GelMA/BCP scaffold was successfully prepared digital light processing (DLP) printing and filled with PL/GelMA to promote the vascularization effect.
