Clinical Diagnostic Challenge in a Case of Disseminated Infection Misdiagnosed Initially as Pulmonary Tuberculosis: A Case Report and Literature Review.

This case reports a middle-aged male patient who was HIV-negative and initially misdiagnosed as pulmonary tuberculosis but was eventually diagnosed with disseminated infection by next-generation sequencing. The patient presented with respiratory symptoms, recurrent bone pain, and subcutaneous masses as the main symptoms. After one year of antifungal treatment, the symptoms improved obviously, but the symptoms recurred after two weeks of drug withdrawal, and the symptoms were relieved after re-administration of antifungal drugs again.

Human herpes viruses (HHVs) are commonly detected in community-acquired pneumonia (CAP) patients, particularly those with complex complications, attracting increased attention from clinical practitioners. However, the significance of detecting HHVs in bronchoalveolar lavage fluid (BALF) with CAP patients is still unclear. This study retrospectively analyzed BALF samples from 64 CAP patients at the Kunming Third People's Hospital between August 2021 and December 2023.

Phylogenetic and mutational analysis of H10N3 avian influenza A virus in China: potential threats to human health.

In recent years, the avian influenza virus has emerged as a significant threat to both human and public health. This study focuses on a patient infected with the H10N3 subtype of avian influenza virus, admitted to the Third People's Hospital of Kunming City on March 6, 2024. Metagenomic RNA sequencing and polymerase chain reaction (PCR) analysis were conducted on the patient's sputum, confirming the H10N3 infection.

Continuous Renal Replacement Therapy Improves Indicators and Short-Term Survival in People with AIDS Manifesting Sepsis and Acute Kidney Injury.

Patients with acquired immune deficiency syndrome (AIDS) are susceptible to numerous complications, such as sepsis and acute kidney injury (AKI), leading to adverse outcomes. Continuous renal replacement therapy (CRRT) is becoming increasingly popular for treating sepsis and AKI. This study aimed to verify the effectiveness of CRRT in the treatment of patients with AIDS with sepsis and AKI to provide new directions for the treatment of severe AIDS.

Amyloidosis, a systemic disease characterized by the deposition of misfolded protein, is difficult to rapidly diagnose due to its wide range of symptoms. The present study reported on a case of primary amyloidosis (AL) with involvement of the gastrointestinal tract, mesentery and omentum in a 66-year-old male presenting with recurrent diarrhoea and abdominal distension. Oesophagogastroduodenoscopy and enteroscopy revealed multiple gastric ulcers and multiple protuberant lesions in the colon.

Therefore, this study was designed to clarify the underlying mechanism of circASAP1 in cervical cancer. The real-time quantitative PCR assay was applied to quantify the expression levels of circASAP1, microRNA (miR)-338-3p, and ribonuclease P and MRP subunit p25 (RPP25) in cervical cancer tissues and cells.

Measuring and explaining inequality of continuous care for people living with HIV receiving antiretroviral therapy in Kunming, China.

Background: In the context of scaling up free antiretroviral therapy (ART), healthcare equality is essential for people living with HIV. We aimed to assess socioeconomic-related inequalities in uptake of continuous care for people living with HIV receiving ART, including retention in care in the last six months, routine toxicity monitoring, adequate immunological and virological monitoring, and uptake of mental health assessment in the last 12 months. We also determined the contributions of socioeconomic factors to the degree of inequalities.

To assess the heterogeneity of HBV reverse transcriptase (RT) quasispecies during 10 years of antiviral therapy and their association with antiviral efficacy. Nineteen patients with chronic hepatitis B (CHB) infection receiving nucleos(t)ide analogues (NAs) were enrolled. Based on the antiviral efficacy after 1 year of treatment, 5 patients were grouped into an early virologic response (EVR) group, while 8 patients were grouped into a late virologic response (LVR) group.

Background: Data concerning adherence to hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) surveillance among chronic liver disease (CLD) patients at high risk of developing HCC in China are limited. We aimed to examine the relationship between HCC-related knowledge dimensions and adherence to HCC surveillance procedures among chronic liver disease patients at high risk of developing HCC and to identify potential barriers.

Methods: A total of 380 patients with chronic liver disease at high risk of developing HCC were recruited between May and August 2018 to complete a survey during the first week of their first hospitalization at the Third People's Hospital of Kunming in China.

Inhibition of respiratory syncytial virus replication and suppression of RSV-induced airway inflammation in neonatal rats by colchicine.

The present study investigated the role of colchicine in the treatment of RSV infection. Treatment of BEAS-2B cells following RSV infection with colchicine caused a significant decrease in the number of viral plaques.
