Human herpes viruses (HHVs) are commonly detected in community-acquired pneumonia (CAP) patients, particularly those with complex complications, attracting increased attention from clinical practitioners. However, the significance of detecting HHVs in bronchoalveolar lavage fluid (BALF) with CAP patients is still unclear. This study retrospectively analyzed BALF samples from 64 CAP patients at the Kunming Third People's Hospital between August 2021 and December 2023.

Patients with acquired immune deficiency syndrome (AIDS) are susceptible to numerous complications, such as sepsis and acute kidney injury (AKI), leading to adverse outcomes. Continuous renal replacement therapy (CRRT) is becoming increasingly popular for treating sepsis and AKI. This study aimed to verify the effectiveness of CRRT in the treatment of patients with AIDS with sepsis and AKI to provide new directions for the treatment of severe AIDS.

Circular RNAs have been identified as vital regulators to regulate the development of human cancers, including cervical cancer. Therefore, this study was designed to clarify the underlying mechanism of circASAP1 in cervical cancer. The real-time quantitative PCR assay was applied to quantify the expression levels of circASAP1, microRNA (miR)-338-3p, and ribonuclease P and MRP subunit p25 (RPP25) in cervical cancer tissues and cells.

Background: In the context of scaling up free antiretroviral therapy (ART), healthcare equality is essential for people living with HIV. We aimed to assess socioeconomic-related inequalities in uptake of continuous care for people living with HIV receiving ART, including retention in care in the last six months, routine toxicity monitoring, adequate immunological and virological monitoring, and uptake of mental health assessment in the last 12 months. We also determined the contributions of socioeconomic factors to the degree of inequalities.

Adriamycin (ADR) is an important chemotherapy agent in many advanced cancers, but the emergence of drug resistance during treatment is a major limitation to its successful use. Recent studies have suggested that drug-resistant cells become less fit and their growth could be inhibited by parental cells without cytotoxic treatment. In this study, we examined the fitness differences between HeLa and HeLa/ADR cells.

Background: Data concerning adherence to hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) surveillance among chronic liver disease (CLD) patients at high risk of developing HCC in China are limited. We aimed to examine the relationship between HCC-related knowledge dimensions and adherence to HCC surveillance procedures among chronic liver disease patients at high risk of developing HCC and to identify potential barriers.
Methods: A total of 380 patients with chronic liver disease at high risk of developing HCC were recruited between May and August 2018 to complete a survey during the first week of their first hospitalization at the Third People's Hospital of Kunming in China.

The relationship between pathological changes in liver tissue and the level of hepatitis B surface antigen (HBsAg) remains unclear. This study aimed to analyze the pathological changes in liver tissue and its related factors in patients with low-level HBsAg in order to provide a basis for judging the condition of these patients. A retrospective study was performed on 96 chronic hepatitis B patients with HBsAg levels < 1400 IU/ml and > 0.

The present study investigated the role of colchicine in the treatment of RSV infection. Treatment of BEAS-2B cells following RSV infection with colchicine caused a significant decrease in the number of viral plaques. In RSV-infected BEAS-2B cells' treatment with colchicine leads to a significant up-regulation of both IFN-1 and RIG-I genes.
