In intensive care units (ICUs), mortality prediction is performed by combining information from these two sources of ICU patients by monitoring patient health. Respectively, time series data generated from each patient admission to the ICU and clinical records consisting of physician diagnostic summaries. However, existing mortality prediction studies mainly cascade the multimodal features of time series data and clinical records for prediction, ignoring thecross-modal correlation between the underlying features in different modal data.

Transcription factor YY1 is an important regulator of many pathways in tumor cell growth, prognosis, epithelial-mesenchymal transition, invasion, and resistance to chemotherapy. These effects lead to upregulation of YY1 associated with poor outcomes in many tumors. Growing research evidence suggests that long non-coding RNAs (lncRNAs) play important roles in the regulatory network of YY1.

Severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 breakthrough infection in highly vaccinated populations raises study on the effectiveness for inactivated vaccine, including effectiveness of the vaccine dose, the continuance of effectiveness, the effectiveness against severe/critical coronavirus disease 2019 and against secondary attacks. A population of 10 870 close contacts were investigated in a Delta variant's epidemic. The effectiveness of vaccination was estimated in a test-negative case-control study.

Background: Homocysteine (Hcy) was implicated in oxidative stress and diabetes biologically. However, the clinical evidence on the link between Hcy level and diabetes is limited and controversial. This study is aimed at investigating the association of serum Hcy with all-cause and cardiovascular mortality in diabetic patients.

Background: To investigate the effect of the dorsal nerve fascial island (DNFI) flap on repairing finger soft tissue defects at the distal segments.
Methods: Fifty patients with distal soft tissue defects at the index, middle, ring, or little fingers were treated with a DNFI flap at the proximal phalanx between February 2008 and May 2018. The nutrient vascular chain around the dorsal branch of the proper palmar digital nerves served as the flap axis.

Aims: In 2017, a subset of cellular variants of myofibroma and myopericytoma with a smooth muscle-like immunophenotype and harbouring recurrent SRF::RELA gene fusions was reported. Although the anatomical distribution was found to be quite broad, no tumours with these gene fusions in the female reproductive system have been illustrated to date.
Methods And Results: Herein, we report the histological and immunophenotypical features of three uterine tumours with SRF::RELA gene fusions.

Background: Annexins family (ANXAs), as a Ca-dependent phospholipid-binding protein superfamily, participates in a wide variety of biological activities and has been reported to be dysregulated in numerous types of human cancers. Evidence from cell lines and human tissues indicates that ANAXs are involved in kidney clear renal cell carcinoma (KIRC) tumorigenesis. However, their prognostic value and expression pattern associated with KIRC remain to be elucidated.

Introduction And Objectives: Although splenic vein embolization (SVE) has been performed for the management of patients with hepatic encephalopathy (HE) related to large spontaneous splenorenal shunts (SSRS) in recent years, its role remains poorly defined. In this study, we aimed to explore the safety and efficacy of SVE for HE patients with large SSRS.
Materials And Methods: Data from cirrhotic patients who were confirmed to have recurrent or persistent HE related to large SSRS and underwent SVE from January 2017 to April 2021 were retrospectively collected and analyzed at our center.

Background: Compared with bone marrow mesenchymal stem cells (BMSCs), decidual mesenchymal stem cells (DMSCs) are easy to obtain and exhibit excellent angiogenic effects, but their role in cell transplantation after myocardial infarction (MI) remains unclear.
Methods: BMSCs and DMSCs were harvested from healthy donors. The effects of both cell types on angiogenesis were observed .

Cancers continue to have high incidence and mortality rates worldwide. Therefore, cancer control remains the main public health goal. Growing research evidence suggests that phospholysine phosphohistidine inorganic pyrophosphate phosphatase (LHPP) plays an important role in inhibiting tumor cell progression.

Cardiac damage in non-severe patients with coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) is poorly explored. This study aimed to explore the manifestations of cardiac damage at presentation in non-severe patients with COVID-19. In this study, 113 non-severe patients with COVID-19 were grouped according to the duration from symptoms onset to hospital admission: group 1 (≤ 1 week, n = 27), group 2 (> 1 to 2 weeks, n = 28), group 3 (> 2 to 3 weeks, n = 27), group 4 (> 3 weeks, n = 31).

To improve the osteoinductivity, antibacterial activity, and clinical application of calcium sulfate hemihydrate (CSH), carboxymethyl chitosan zinc (CMCS-Zn) and α-CSH were prepared using different mass ratios. The setting time and injectability of the CMCS-Zn/α-CSH composite were increased with increasing CMCS-Zn content. After adding different amounts of CMCS-Zn to α-CSH, the fine lamellar structure of CMCS-Zn was found by scanning electron microscopy (SEM), which is evenly distributed in the matrix of α-CSH.

The supraphysiologic chloride concentration of normal saline may contribute to acute kidney injury (AKI). Balanced crystalloids can decrease chloride concentration and AKI in critically ill patients. We aim to test the hypothesis that, in patients with predicted severe acute pancreatitis (pSAP), compared with saline, fluid therapy with balanced crystalloids will decrease plasma chloride concentration.

Tumor necrosis factor-α inducible protein-8 (TIPE2), initially recognized as a negative immune regulator, exerts an important role in suppressing the progression of numerous cancers. In our previous investigation, we found that TIPE2 expression displayed a decrease or absence in gastric tumor tissue, and the overexpression of TIPE2 suppressed the growth of gastric cancer tumors and cells, demonstrating that TIPE2 could be a potential medicinal target for gastric cancer treatment. However, it's seldomly reported that several medicinal agents or candidates targeted TIPE2 for treating diseases, including gastric cancer.

Background: Varicella zoster virus (VZV) causes varicella primarily in childhood, and some rare adults also report varicella. Herpes zoster mainly occurs in adults by endogenous reactivation of latent VZV. Until now, varicella and herpes zoster have seldom been reported simultaneously in one patient.

Background: Percutaneous endoscopic interlaminar discectomy (PEID) is a widely used minimally invasive procedure that shows satisfying outcomes for the treatment of L5-S1 and even L4-5 disc herniation. PEID can be divided into direct and indirect approaches according to the established method of the working channel. The direct approach mainly uses the puncture needle directly through the intervertebral space into the intervertebral disc under indirect vision and insertion of the guidewire into the puncture needle to guide the dilator and into the working channel to retract the ligamentum flavum, dural sac, and nerve roots.

Cutaneous melanoma is one of the most common malignant skin tumors, with a continuously increasing incidence. Cyclin-dependent kinase (CDK) 2 is a key regulator of G1-S transition and modulation of G2 progression; however, its role in cancer is a matter of debate. In the present study, a lentivirus expressing single-guide RNA (sgRNA) was constructed to knock out CDK2 using CRISP/Cas9 technology, in order to confirm the role of CDK2 in A375 human melanoma cells.
