Cervical squamous cell carcinoma and endocervical adenocarcinoma (CESC) is a common gynecologic tumor and patients with advanced and recurrent disease usually have a poor clinical outcome. Angiogenesis is involved in the biological processes of tumors and can promote tumor growth and invasion. In this paper, we created a signature for predicting prognosis based on angiogenesis-related lncRNAs (ARLs).

Sex-related cortical asymmetry in antipsychotic-naïve first-episode schizophrenia.

Cereb Cortex

May 2024

Department of Radiology and Functional and Molecular Imaging Key Laboratory of Sichuan Province, West China Hospital of Sichuan University, No. 37 Guoxue Xiang, Wuhou District, Chengdu, Sichuan Province 610041, China.

Schizophrenia has been considered to exhibit sex-related clinical differences that might be associated with distinctly abnormal brain asymmetries between sexes. One hundred and thirty-two antipsychotic-naïve first-episode patients with schizophrenia and 150 healthy participants were recruited in this study to investigate whether cortical asymmetry would exhibit sex-related abnormalities in schizophrenia. After a 1-yr follow-up, patients were rescanned to obtain the effect of antipsychotic treatment on cortical asymmetry.

Article Synopsis
  • Psychotic major depression (PMD) is linked to higher levels of severe anxiety compared to non-psychotic major depressive disorder (MDD), with 71.3% of PMD patients experiencing severe anxiety.
  • Gender differences in anxiety prevalence among PMD patients were minimal; however, elevated thyroid-stimulating hormone (TSH) levels and greater depression severity were identified as risk factors specifically for female PMD patients.
  • The study emphasizes the need for thyroid hormone evaluations and personalized treatment approaches for addressing anxiety in female patients with PMD.

Article Synopsis
  • The study investigates the unique features and clinical importance of the nocturnal sleep onset rapid eye movement period (nSOREMP) in Chinese narcolepsy patients to improve understanding and treatment of the disorder worldwide.
  • A retrospective analysis was conducted using data from six hospitals and the Chinese Clinical Sleep Database, revealing a 2.51% nSOREMP prevalence in other sleep disorders and significant differences in various sleep metrics among narcolepsy patients with and without nSOREMP.
  • Findings indicate high nSOREMP prevalence (33.33% in type 1 and 28.30% in type 2 narcolepsy) and suggest that patients showing narcolepsy symptoms should undergo a Multiple Sleep Latency Test regardless of nocturnal polys

Purpose: Nicotine withdrawal is a multifaceted physiological and psychological process that can induce a spectrum of mood disturbances. Gaining a more nuanced understanding of how pure nicotine withdrawal influences cognitive control functions may provide valuable insights for the enhancement of smoking cessation programs. This study investigated changes in inhibitory control function in smokers after 2-hour nicotine withdrawal using the event-related potential (ERP) technique.

Elevated transport of Caveolin-1 (CAV-1) vesicles within vascular endothelial cells constitutes a significant secondary pathogenic event contributing to the compromise of the blood-brain barrier (BBB) post-traumatic brain injury (TBI). While Wnt/β-catenin signaling is recognized for its critical involvement in angiogenesis and the maintenance of BBB integrity, its influence on vascular endothelial transcytosis in the aftermath of TBI is not well-defined. This study aims to elucidate the impact of Wnt/β-catenin signaling on cerebrovascular vesicular transcytosis following TBI.

Objectives: To observe the efficacy of acupuncture for reducing the south to reinforce the north on executive function, sleep structure and sleep quality in patients with chronic insomnia disorder of heart-kidney disharmony.

Methods: A total of 100 patients with chronic insomnia disorder of heart-kidney disharmony were randomized into an acupuncture group (50 cases, 1 case dropped out) and a western medication group (50 cases, 2 cases dropped out). Acupuncture for reducing the south to reinforce the north was applied at Baihui (GV 20) and bilateral Shenmen (HT 7), Sanyinjiao (SP 6), Shenmai (BL 62), Zhaohai (KI 6), Xinshu (BL 15), Shenshu (BL 23) in the acupuncture group, once a day, 5 days a week.
