Background: Substantial evidence suggests an association between obesity and sleep. However, research investigating sleep patterns in relation to novel anthropometric indices is limited. Therefore, we conducted a cross-sectional analysis of data from the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES) from 2007 to 2014 to examine the relationship between the body roundness index (BRI) and unhealthy sleep patterns.

Pilot Study of Cerebral Hemodynamics in Depressive Patient Under Electroconvulsive Therapy.

Neuropsychiatr Dis Treat

December 2024

Research Center of Educational Neuroscience, School of Educational Science, Huazhong University of Science and Technology, Wuhan City, Hubei Province, People's Republic of China.

Article Synopsis
  • Major depressive disorder (MDD) is a complex condition that can be hard to treat, and Electroconvulsive therapy (ECT) shows promise but its workings are not fully understood.
  • This study used functional Near-Infrared Spectroscopy (fNIRS) to compare the brain activity of a male MDD patient to that of 26 healthy controls before and after ECT, focusing on how ECT affects cerebral blood flow and brain networks.
  • Results indicated that the MDD patient had lower brain activity and connectivity at the start, but after ECT, these measures improved significantly, suggesting that ECT can effectively alter brain function in depressed patients and that fNIRS is a valuable tool for studying these changes.

Background And Aim: Recent Mendelian randomization and meta analysis suggest a controversial causality between C3-epimer of 25 hydroxyvitamin D3 (C3-epi-D3) and type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM). The clinical evidence regarding the impact of C3-epi-D3 on the progression of T2DM is currently insufficient. This study aims to investigate whether C3-epi-D3 has any effect on metabolic disorders of T2DM patients.

Article Synopsis
  • - Research during the COVID-19 pandemic has focused on how the virus affects mental health, particularly in individuals with OCD, but there's been little investigation into whether OCD behaviors might protect against infection.
  • - A study using data from Clalit Health Services analyzed COVID-19 testing, hospitalization, vaccination, and infection rates among patients with and without OCD.
  • - Results indicated that people with OCD had a higher rate of positive COVID-19 tests after restrictions eased and were more likely to get a third vaccine dose, suggesting that OCD does not offer protection against COVID-19 and may be linked to increased infection rates.

An historical overview of artificial intelligence for diagnosis of major depressive disorder.

Front Psychiatry

November 2024

State Key Laboratory for Diagnosis and Treatment of Infectious Diseases, The First Affiliated Hospital, Zhejiang University School of Medicine, Hangzhou, China.

The Artificial Intelligence (AI) technology holds immense potential in the realm of automated diagnosis for Major Depressive Disorder (MDD), yet it is not without potential shortcomings. This paper systematically reviews the research progresses of integrating AI technology with depression diagnosis and provides a comprehensive analysis of existing research findings. In this context, we observe that the knowledge-driven first-generation of depression diagnosis methods could only address deterministic issues in structured information, with the selection of depression-related features directly influencing identification outcomes.

J Stroke Cerebrovasc Dis

November 2024

Department of Neurology, Mianyang Central Hospital, School of Medicine, University of Electronic Science and Technology of China, Mianyang 621000, China. Electronic address:

Background And Purpose: Tissue-level collaterals (TLC), which quantify the state of arterial blood flow transiting through cerebral ischemic tissue, have been shown to be related to the clinical outcomes of acute ischemic stroke (AIS), regardless of the arterial collateral status on computed tomography angiography(CTA). Herein, we investigated whether venous outflow (VO) profiles on computed tomographic perfusion (CTP) were linked to TLC, regardless of the arterial collateral status.

Methods: Consecutive anterior circulation AIS patients with large vessel occlusion(LVO) undergoing thrombectomy in a retrospective cohort were evaluated between January 2021 and August 2023 at two comprehensive stroke centers.
