Purpose: The incidence of visceral leishmaniasis (VL), a global infectious disease, has been on the rise in China's Hebei province. When patients achieve clinical cure, they often do not reach an etiological cure, which may lead to recurrence of the disease. Here, we report a case of visceral leishmaniasis with a negative blood smear and bone marrow cytology.

The inflammatory microenvironment, polarization of macrophages towards the M1 phenotype, and consequent matrix degradation and senescence of chondrocytes are primary contributors to the degeneration of knee joint cartilage, further exacerbating the progression of osteoarthritis (OA). Kongensin A (KA) is a recently identified natural plant extract exhibiting anti-necrotic apoptosis and anti-inflammatory properties, but the potential efficacy in alleviating OA remains uncertain. The current research lucubrated the effect of KA on the inflammatory microenvironment and macrophage polarization, as well as its regulatory function in extracellular matrix (ECM) metabolism and chondrocyte senescence.

Background: The relationship between obesity and type 2 diabetes with bone health has always been a topic of debate. The weight-adjusted waist index has become a commonly used indicator for assessing central obesity, fat, and muscle mass. However, currently there is no research reporting the association between weight-adjusted waist index and risk of osteoporosis in populations of type 2 diabetes.

In the last ten years, stem cell (SC) therapy has been extensively used to treat a range of conditions such as degenerative illnesses, ischemia-related organ dysfunction, diabetes, and neurological disorders. However, the clinical application of these therapies is limited due to the poor survival and differentiation potential of stem cells (SCs). Extracorporeal shock wave therapy (ESWT), as a non-invasive therapy, has shown great application potential in enhancing the proliferation, differentiation, migration, and recruitment of stem cells, offering new possibilities for utilizing ESWT in conjunction with stem cells for the treatment of different systemic conditions.

IL1RL2 has been reported to be highly expressed in a variety of tumor types whereas its role in bladder cancer (BLCA) remains unclear. The aim of the present study was to explore the prognostic value of Il1RL2 in BLCA and its relationship with clinical pathological features. The Cancer Genome Atlas (TCGA) database was used to assess the levels of IL1RL2 expression in BLCA tissues and cells, which were validated by reverse transcription-quantitative polymerase chain reaction and western blotting.

Importance: Many patients with diabetic peripheral neuropathic pain (DPNP) experience inadequate relief, despite best available medical treatments. There are no approved and effective therapies for patients with DPNP in China.
Objective: To evaluate the efficacy and safety of capsules containing γ-aminobutyric acid (GABA) analogue HSK16149 in the treatment of Chinese patients with DPNP.
Background: Cardiovascular disease remains one of the leading causes of death globally. Myocardial ischemia and infarction, in particular, frequently cause disturbances in cardiac electrical activity that can trigger ventricular arrhythmias. We aimed to investigate whether catestatin, an endogenous catecholamine-inhibiting peptide, ameliorates myocardial ischemia-induced ventricular arrhythmias in rats and the underlying ionic mechanisms.

Objective: This study aimed to investigate the protective effect of bone marrow mesenchymal stem cell-derived exosomes (BMSCs-exo) against lower limb ischemia/reperfusion (I/R) injury-induced pyroptosis in skeletal muscle.
Methods: A mouse model of lower limb I/R injury was utilized to assess the impact of BMSCs-exo, particularly when loaded with microRNA-367-3p (miR-367-3p), on pyroptosis. Histological examination, wet weight/dry weight ratio measurements, and luciferase assays were employed to elucidate the mechanisms involved.

Surgical treatment has been established as the standard method for the treatment of intertrochanteric fractures in the elderly. The design of internal fixation devices has become the key to improve surgical outcomes and reduce postoperative complications. Centered on optimizing biomechanical performance and minimally invasive implantation, coupled with continuous material improvements, the design philosophy of internal fixation devices has also been constantly evolving.

The cellular and molecular mediators of peri-implant fibrosis-a most common reason for implant failure and for surgical revision after the replacement of a prosthetic joint-remain unclear. Here we show that peri-implant fibrotic tissue in mice and humans is largely composed of a specific population of skeletal cells expressing the leptin receptor (LEPR) and that these cells are necessary and sufficient to generate and maintain peri-implant fibrotic tissue. In a mouse model of tibial implantation and osseointegration that mimics partial knee arthroplasty, genetic ablation of LEPR cells prevented peri-implant fibrosis and the implantation of LEPR cells from peri-implant fibrotic tissue was sufficient to induce fibrosis in secondary hosts.
