Predictors and prognosis of elderly hip fracture patients with perioperative atrial fibrillation: a nested case-control study.

Background: A scarcity of data exists concerning atrial fibrillation (AF) during the perioperative stage of non-cardiothoracic surgery, particularly orthopedic surgery. In addition, given the frequency and significant impact of AF in the perioperative period, therefore our aim was to identify prognosis and predictors of elderly hip fracture patients with perioperative AF.

Methods: An examination of hip fracture patients at the Third Hospital of Hebei Medical University, who had been hospitalized from January 2018 to October 2020 in succession, was conducted retrospectively.

Background: Patients with preoperative acute heart failure (AHF) after hip fracture in the elderly have a worse prognosis. Objective: This study compares the relationships between five anthropometric indices, a body shape index (ABSI), body roundness index (BRI), waist circumference (WC), body mass index (BMI) and waist-to-height ratio (WHtR), and hypertension, assessing their predictive capacities. The aim is to determine the specific numerical changes in hypertension incidence, systolic blood pressure (SBP) and diastolic blood pressure (DBP) for each increase in standard deviation of these indices, and to identify the optimal predictive indicators for different populations, including the calculation of cutoff values.

Methods: This study integrated single-cell transcriptomics (scRNA-seq) with bulk RNA-seq data to analyze neutrophil infiltration patterns in OSCC and identify key gene modules using weighted gene co-expression network analysis (hdWGCNA).

Prediction of soft tissue sarcoma grading using intratumoral habitats and a peritumoral radiomics nomogram: a multi-center preliminary study.

Background: Accurate identification of pathologic grade before operation is helpful for guiding clinical treatment decisions and improving the prognosis for soft tissue sarcoma (STS).

Purpose: To construct and assess a magnetic resonance imaging (MRI)-based radiomics nomogram incorporating intratumoral habitats (subregions of clusters of voxels containing similar features) and peritumoral features for the preoperative prediction of the pathological grade of STS.

Methods: The MRI data of 145 patients with STS (74 low-grade and 71 high-grade) from 4 hospitals were retrospectively collected, including enhanced T1-weighted and fat-suppressed-T2-weighted sequences.

Methods: This is a retrospective study, and patients who underwent single-level ACDF from June 2019 to June 2022 were recruited. We collected preoperative total segmental vertebral height (pre-TSVH), cage subsidence height, cervical angle (CA), T1-slope, straight or reverse cervical curvature, mean HU value of C3-7 (C-HU), mean HU of segment (seg-HU), C-VBQ, segmental C-VBQ (seg-VBQ), and total lumbar value ( value).

Islet transplantation is a promising therapy for diabetes, yet the limited survival and functionality of transplanted islet grafts hinder optimal outcomes. Glucagon-like peptide-1 (GLP-1), an endogenous hormone, has shown potential to enhance islet survival and function; however, its systemic administration can result in poor localization and undesirable side effects. To address these challenges, we developed a novel peptide-based nanofiber hydrogel incorporating GLP-1 functionality for localized delivery.

Methods: A series of patients with distal radius fractures who underwent conservative treatment in the Third Hospital of Hebei Medical University were retrospectively enrolled.

Purpose: The purpose of this study was to evaluate the nature of ultrasound characteristics during mpMRI/TRUS cognitive fusion targeted biopsy (cTB).

Methods: From 2023 to 2024, data from 502 lesions in 426 men who underwent targeted combined systematic biopsy were analyzed. All lesions had a Prostate Imaging Reporting and Data System (PI-RADS) score of ≥ 3.

In this study, ICR juvenile mice were subjected to juvenile chronic social defeat stress (jCSDS) between postnatal days 32 and 41, during which body weight changes were continuously monitored.

Maintenance of Long-Term Effective Humoral Immune Response in Patients with COVID-19 with Homologous or Heterologous Booster Vaccines: A Retrospective Study.

Coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19), caused by severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) and first identified in Wuhan, China, in December 2019, has led to global efforts in vaccination to mitigate rising morbidity and mortality, with vaccines proving crucial in controlling the pandemic. This study evaluated the humoral responses to the inactivated virus vaccine Sinopharm or Koxing Kerlafor, the protein subunit vaccine ZF001, and the adenoviral vector vaccine Convidecia after 18 months of inactivated virus vaccination by heterologous and homologous booster vaccination in patients with previous SARS-CoV-2 infection and healthy individuals. We discovered that patients who had recovered from the infection and then received a third vaccine dose (booster) exhibited durable immunity.

Purpose: This study aims to assess thalamocortical tract fiber injury using diffusion-tensor imaging (DTI) and to characterize metabolic alterations in the dorsal thalamus with proton magnetic resonance spectroscopy (MRS) in patients with cervical spondylotic myelopathy (CSM).

Methods: A prospective study involved 98 CSM patients and 66 age-matched controls without neurological disease, recruited from May 2021 to December 2021. Neurological function was evaluated using the modified Japanese Orthopaedic Association (mJOA) score.

A Modified Inflammatory Pain Model to Study the Analgesic Effect in Mice.

The hot plate test is widely used to evaluate analgesic effects on inflammatory pain in mice. A commonly used model of inflammatory pain was induced with an intraplantar injection of carrageenan in one hind paw. However, the findings from our laboratory showed that mice with a single-hind-paw injection of carrageenan lifted their paws to avoid thermal nociception during the hot plate test.

Comparative analysis of triplanar Chevron osteotomy (TCO) and Chevron osteotomy (CO) for treating mild to moderate hallux valgus via computer simulation and 3D printing: An observational study.

Hallux valgus (HV) deformity, which is characterized by lateral deviation and pronation of the metatarsophalangeal joint, demonstrates complex 3-dimensional challenges, thus prompting the development of various surgical approaches, including traditional Chevron osteotomy (CO) and novel triplanar Chevron osteotomy (TCO). The objective of this study is to determine TCO at various tilt angles by employing 3D printing for ex vivo osteotomy angle simulations and computer modeling to correct deformities across 3 planes, thus aiming to enhance surgical outcomes by preserving or even increasing the length of the first metatarsal and thereby overcoming the limitations of CO. In this study, we collected and analyzed non-weight-bearing CT data from 55 patients (61 feet) with mild-to-moderate hallux valgus, plantar callosities and metatarsalgia from June 2019 to June 2020.

Methods: This multi-center, retrospective study analyzed the magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) scans and anteroposterior radiographs of 534 adult outpatients with KOA.

Objectives: The aim of this study is to develop an ultrasound-based fusion model of clinical, radiomics and deep learning (CRDL) for accurate diagnosis of benign and malignant soft tissue tumors (STTs).

Methods: In this retrospective study, ultrasound images and clinical data of patients with STTs from two hospitals were collected between January 2021 and December 2023. Radiomics features and deep learning features were extracted from the ultrasound images, and the optimal features were selected to construct fusion models using support vector machines.
