Decorin (DCN) regulates a vast array of cellular processes including proliferation, migration, apoptosis, and autophagy, and its aberrant expression has been associated with poor extravillous trophoblasts (EVT) invasion of the uterus, which underlies the occurrence of preeclampsia (PE) and intrauterine growth restriction (IUGR). In this study, we aim to elucidate the molecular mechanism of how the DCN regulates the cell functions through the use of trophoblast cell line, HTR-8. Using a series of cell function assays, including CCK8, RTCA, transwell, scratch-wound assay, and Annexin V staining, we found that DCN suppressed proliferation and invasion, while promoted autophagy and apoptosis of HTR-8 in a dose-dependent manner.

Blood-brain barrier (BBB) disruption and neuronal apoptosis are important pathophysiological processes after traumatic brain injury (TBI). In clinical stroke, Dl-3n-butylphthalide (Dl-NBP) has a neuroprotective effect with anti-inflammatory, anti-oxidative, anti-apoptotic and mitochondrion-protective functions. However, the effect and molecular mechanism of Dl-NBP for TBI need to be further investigated.

Alternative splicing (AS), an important post-transcriptional regulatory mechanism that regulates the translation of mRNA isoforms and generates protein diversity, has been widely demonstrated to be associated with oncogenic processes. In this study, we systematically analyzed genome-wide AS patterns to explore the prognostic implications of AS in endometrial cancer (EC). A total of 2,324 AS events were identified as being associated with the overall survival of EC patients, and eleven of these events were further selected using a random forest algorithm.

Traumatic brain injury (TBI) is one of the most common causes of neurological damage in young human populations. Vitamin B has been reported to promote axon growth of neuronal cells after peripheral nerve injury, which is currently used for the treatment of peripheral nerve damage in the clinical trial. Thus, we hypothesized that TBI can be attenuated by vitaminB treatment through its beneficial role on axon regeneration after nerve injury.

Article Synopsis
  • The study assessed how diabetes mellitus (DM) affects the neutrophil-lymphocyte ratio (NLR) in predicting outcomes for renal cell carcinoma (RCC) patients.
  • The research involved analyzing data from 662 patients who underwent nephrectomy and found that a high NLR (≥3.2) correlated with significantly worse overall and metastasis-free survival in patients without DM.
  • In patients with DM, while a high NLR remained a poor indicator for metastasis-free survival, it did not significantly affect overall survival, suggesting that DM complicates prognosis assessments for RCC using NLR.

Article Synopsis
  • The study evaluated the significance of the preoperative Controlling Nutritional Status (CONUT) score in predicting survival for patients with renal cell carcinoma (RCC) who underwent surgery.
  • The analysis included 635 patients and identified optimal cutoff values for CONUT, prognostic nutritional index (PNI), neutrophil-to-lymphocyte ratio (NLR), and platelet-to-lymphocyte ratio (PLR) in relation to cancer-specific survival (CSS).
  • Results showed that a higher CONUT score was an independent predictor of worse overall survival (OS) and CSS, proving it to be a stronger predictor than PNI, NLR, and PLR in this patient population.
