Choroidal melanoma (CM) is the most common type of diagnosed uveal melanoma (UM), which is prone to metastasis and exhibits a poor prognosis. The molecular mechanisms underlying CM progression need further elucidation to research effective therapeutic strategies. Histone deacetylase 7 (HDAC7) is very important in regulating cancer progression, but the significance and effect of HDAC7 on CM progression are unclear.

Background: Epidemiological evidence of the associations between metal exposure and gout-related outcomes (including serum uric acid [SUA], hyperuricemia and gout) is scarce. The aim of the study is to investigate the associations of metal exposure with SUA, hyperuricemia and gout in general adults.

Methods: In this study, the exposure to five blood metals (mercury, manganese, lead, cadmium and selenium) of general adults was analyzed based on the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES) from 2011 to 2018 (n = 14,871).

Inflammatory bone destruction has gradually attracted attention worldwide and has been observed in several kinds of pathological bone diseases, such as osteoarthritis, osteomyelitis, rheumatic arthritis, and other infectious clinical trials in the skeletal system. In this regard, excessive osteoclasts and bone resorption activity participate in osteolytic processes. Thus, negatively modulating osteoclast differentiation and bone erosion has been considered an effective therapeutic strategy to limit the poor progression of inflammatory osteolysis.

Dysregulation and prometastatic function of glycosyltransferase C1GALT1 modulated by cHP1BP3/ miR-1-3p axis in bladder cancer.

J Exp Clin Cancer Res

July 2022

Institute of Hematology, Provincial Key Laboratory of Biotechnology, School of Medicine, Northwest University, Xi'an, 710069, People's Republic of China.

Background: Abnormal glycosylation in a variety of cancer types is involved in tumor progression and chemoresistance. Glycosyltransferase C1GALT1, the key enzyme in conversion of Tn antigen to T antigen, is involved in both physiological and pathological conditions. However, the mechanisms of C1GALT1 in enhancing oncogenic phenotypes and its regulatory effects via non-coding RNA are unclear.

Background: The previous studies have shown that individuals with hypertension and anxiety have a higher mean left ventricular mass index (LVMI) and QTc dispersion. We explored the associations between anxiety and left ventricular hypertrophy (LVH) and between anxiety and transmural dispersion of repolarization (TDR) (as detected by T peak-T end interval/QT interval, Tp-Te/QT ratio) in patients with hypertension.

Methods: A total of 353 patients with uncomplicated hypertension from the Shaanxi Provincial People's Hospital were enrolled between 2017 and 2021.

Objective: This study aimed to investigate whether endostatin, a crucial anti-angiogenic factor, plays a negative role in angiogenesis and osteogenesis and aggravates the progression of osteonecrosis of the femoral head induced by steroid use in a rabbit model.

Methods: 66 New Zealand white rabbits were randomly divided into four groups: glucocorticoid model (GC) group (GC group, n = 18), glucocorticoid model and endostatin group (GC;ES group, n = 18), ES group (ES group, n = 18), and blank control group (CON group, n = 12). In the GC group, 10 μg/ kg lipopolysaccharide (LPS) was intravenously injected into the ear margin, and 24h after LPS injection, 20 mg/kg GC methylprednisolone (MPS) was injected into the gluteus muscle three times, each time at an interval of 24h.

Background: Histone deacetylases (HDACs) play crucial roles in cancers, but the role and mechanism of HDAC7 in NSCLC have not been fully understood.

Methods: A total of 319 patients with non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) who underwent surgery were enrolled in this study. Immunohistochemistry and Kaplan-Meier survival analysis were performed to investigate the relationship between HDAC7, fibroblast growth factor 18 (FGF18) expression, and clinicopathologic characteristics.

Background: Senescence marker protein 30 (), which plays a pivotal role as a suppressor protein in cell proliferation, among other regulatory actions, is a marker of aging that shows decreased expression during senescence. Decreased has been identified in several human cancers, but its expression and role in human non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) remain unclear.

Methods: Using tumor tissue and matched adjacent normal tissue from 341 patients with resected NSCLC, we assessed expression using immunohistochemical methods.

Article Synopsis
  • Plasma ctDNA mutation testing serves as a non-invasive alternative to tissue biopsy for detecting EGFR mutations in non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) patients, but its impact on long-term survival outcomes is still underexplored.
  • In a study of 174 NSCLC patients, ctDNA mutations in preoperative plasma samples were correlated with tissue mutation results, and their presence was linked to worse overall survival and disease-free survival.
  • The study showed that patients with detectable ctDNA mutations had significantly lower 5-year survival rates (18.5% vs. 76.9%) compared to those without mutations, establishing ctDNA as an important independent risk factor for prognosis.

The global trends in myocarditis burden over the past two decades remain poorly understood and might be increasing during the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) worldwide pandemic. This study aimed to provide comprehensive estimates of the incidence, mortality, and disability-adjusted life years (DALYs) for myocarditis globally from 1990 to 2017. Data regarding the incidence, mortality, DALY, and estimated annual percentage change (EAPC) between 1990 and 2017 for myocarditis worldwide were collected and calculated from the 2017 Global Burden of Disease study.

  • The study examined the effects of a minimally invasive surgical technique called TESSYS for treating lumbar disc herniation at the L5-S1 level, focusing on how iliac crest height affects outcomes.
  • It analyzed data from 76 patients who underwent the procedure, categorizing them based on the height of their iliac crest relative to lumbar vertebrae.
  • Post-surgery results showed significant pain reduction and improvement in disability scores over time, but patients with higher iliac crest heights (Group III) experienced less favorable outcomes compared to those in the other groups.

Background: The successful recognition of benign and malignant breast nodules using ultrasound images is based mainly on supervised learning that requires a large number of labeled images. However, because high-quality labeling is expensive and time-consuming, we hypothesized that semi-supervised learning could provide a low-cost and powerful alternative approach. This study aimed to develop an accurate semi-supervised recognition method and compared its performance with supervised methods and sonographers.

Previous reports have shown that miR-30d-5p functions as a tumor suppressor in prostate cancer and gallbladder carcinoma, but its role in renal cell carcinoma (RCC) remains elusive. This study was designed to explore the functional role of miR-30d-5p in proliferation and autophagy of RCC. Our results show that miR-30d-5p is significantly down-regulated in RCC tissues compared with normal tissues.
