Background: Depression and decreased dopamine transporter (DAT) availability are prevalent in Parkinson's disease (PD), yet early predictive biomarkers are lacking. This study investigates the longitudinal associations between cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) neuroglial activation markers, sTREM2 and YKL-40, and depression, as well as DAT availability, in PD patients.
Methods: We analyzed data from 172 PD subjects and 80 matched healthy controls from a large longitudinal study.

Objective: Cyclic tensile stress (CTS) is known to induce osteogenesis of periodontal ligament cells (PDLCs), in which the molecular mechanism remains to be elucidated. This study aimed to investigate the role of the mechanosensitive calcium channel Piezo1 in the osteogenesis of PDLCs under tensile strain, as well as the signal regulation of the TAZ-CbfĪ±1 pathway in this process.
Design: PDLCs were isolated from periodontal ligament tissues and subjected to CTS.

Background: Sepsis is defined as a dysregulated host response to infection that results in life-threatening organ dysfunction. The 24-hour urine volume plays a crucial role in assessing the prognosis of septic patients. This study aims to investigate the relationship between 24-hour urine volume and 28-day intensive care unit (ICU) mortality in septic patients and exploring the dose-response relationship between these variables.

Unsaturated fatty acids (UFAs) play a crucial physiological role in human body. However, the concentration-related changes and prognostic significance of UFAs in epilepsyremain unclear. An optimized ultra-performance liquid chromatography-tandem mass spectrometry (UPLC-MS/MS) approach was developed to measure six key UFAs: oleic acid (OA), linoleic acid (LA), arachidonic acid (AA), Ī±-linolenic acid (ALA), docosahexaenoic acid (DHA), and eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA).

Rationale And Objectives: This study aimed to develop and validate a machine learning-based prediction model for preoperatively predicting progesterone receptor (PR) expression in meningioma patients using multiparametric magnetic resonance imaging (MRI).
Materials And Methods: The study retrospectively enrolled 739 patients with pathologically confirmed meningioma from three medical centers, dividing them into four cohorts: training (nĀ =Ā 294), internal test (nĀ =Ā 126), external test 1 (nĀ =Ā 217), and external test 2 (nĀ =Ā 102). Radiomics characteristics were derived from T2-weighted and contrast-enhanced T1-weighted MRI images, followed by feature selection.

Background: Parkinson's disease (PD) has been linked to T helper 17 (Th17) cells in prior investigations, but the evidence remains inconclusive. To gain a deeper understanding of this potential connection, we conducted a systematic review and meta-analysis.
Methods: A comprehensive search for relevant studies published up to July 8, 2023, was performed across PubMed, EMBASE, and Cochrane Library databases.

Introduction: Sepsis is a substantial global health challenge with a considerable disease burden. Despite advancements in sepsis research, the mortality rates associated with this condition remain high. The relationship between the serum albumin-to-creatinine ratio (sACR) and mortality in patients with sepsis remains unclear.

Introduction: To assess the prevailing trends in the incidence of ischemic heart disease (IHD) across 204 countries and territories from 1990 to 2019, and to elucidate their correlations with age, period, and birth cohort, a comprehensive analysis was conducted.
Methods: From 1990 to 2019, we employed the Global Burden of Disease Study (GBD) Results Tool in conjunction with an age-period-cohort model. This approach facilitated the estimation of annual percentage changes in incidence, referred to as net drifts, encompassing the overall population.

Background: Heart failure combined with hypertension is a major contributor for elderly patients (ā„ā65 years) to in-hospital mortality. However, there are very few models to predict in-hospital mortality in such elderly patients. We aimed to develop and test an individualized machine learning model to assess risk factors and predict in-hospital mortality in in these patients.

Background: Hemorrhagic transformation (HT) after intravenous thrombolysis (IVT) with rt-PA can precipitate rapid neurological deterioration, poor prognosis, and even death. The HALP score (hemoglobin, albumin, lymphocyte, and platelet) is a novel indicator developed to reflect both systemic inflammation and the nutritional status of patients. The goal of this study was to reveal the relationship between the HALP score and the risk of HT after IVT in people with acute ischemic stroke (AIS).

Background: With the advancement of various auxiliary examination techniques, the detection rate of stage I gastric cancer has gradually increased, and its clinical first-choice treatment is surgery. Although patients with stage I gastric cancer generally have a good postoperative survival rate, there is still a certain probability of recurrence. Given the large number of gastric cancer cases, there is a vast population of patients with stage I disease.

Introduction: Antitumor medications such as Avastin, Berubicin, and Temozolomide have fundamentally transformed the treatment landscape for gliomas by exhibiting potent pharmacological effects on both high-grade and low-grade gliomas. This study aims to determine which anti-glioma medication presents the lowest risk for personalized use in clinical patients by assessing the adverse drug reactions (ADRs) associated with these medications as reported in the World Health Organization (WHO) VigiAcess database, and by comparing the characteristics of adverse responses among the three drugs.
Methods: This investigation employs a retrospective descriptive analysis method.

Titanium and its alloys are the most commonly used biometals for developing orthopedic implants to treat various forms of bone fractures and defects, but their clinical performance is still challenged by the unfavorable mechanical and biological interactions at the implant-tissue interface, which substantially impede bone healing at the defects and reduce the quality of regenerated bones. Moreover, the impaired osteogenesis capacity of patients under certain pathological conditions such as diabetes and osteoporosis may further impair the osseointegration of Ti-based implants and increase the risk of treatment failure. To address these issues, various modification strategies have been developed to regulate the implant-bone interactions for improving bone growth and remodeling .
