Background: Although excellent clinical outcomes of supercapsular percutaneously assisted total hip arthroplasty (SuperPath) have been reported, the peri-operative blood loss has rarely been reported. The current study determined the blood loss during SuperPath and compared the blood loss with conventional posterolateral total hip arthroplasty (PLTH).
Methods: This retrospective study enrolled patients who underwent unilateral primary THA between January 2017 and December 2019.

Dysregulation of long noncoding RNAs (lncRNAs) has been suggested to foster the carcinogenesis of hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC). To date, the role of long intergenic noncoding RNA01134 (LINC01134) in HCC have never been researched yet. Herein, we found that LINC01134 was highly expressed in HCC tissues in comparison with the matched normal liver tissues and increased LINC01134 expression correlated with shorter overall survival of patients with HCC.

The scarcity of primordial germ cells (PGCs) in the developing mammalian embryo hampers robust biochemical analysis of the processes that underlie early germ cell formation. Here, we demonstrate that DAZL, a germ cell-specific RNA binding protein, is a robust PGC marker during in vitro germ cell development. Using Dazl-GFP reporter ESCs, we demonstrate that DAZL plays a central role in a large mRNA/protein interactive network that blocks the translation of core pluripotency factors, including Sox2 and Sall4, as well as of Suz12, a polycomb family member required for differentiation of pluripotent cells.

Mouse aldo-keto reductase family 1 member B8 (AKR1B8) has the highest similarity to human aldo-keto reductase family 1 member B10 (AKR1B10), a secretory protein through lysosomes-mediated non-classical secretory pathway. To identify whether AKR1B8 is secreted through the same pathway, we carried out this study. Self-developed sandwich ELISA and western blot were used to detect AKR1B8 in cells and culture medium of CT-26 murine colon carcinoma cells.

Coordinated uterine-embryonic axis formation and decidual remodeling are hallmarks of mammalian post-implantation embryo development. Embryonic-uterine orientation is determined at initial implantation and synchronized with decidual development. However, the molecular mechanisms controlling these events remain elusive despite its discovery a long time ago.

The aim of the present study was to determine the relationship between gene codon-72 polymorphisms and hypertrophic scar formation following caesarean section (CS). Blood samples from 260 female patients were collected one week following a CS for the detection of gene polymorphisms using a molecular beacon-coupled quantitative polymerase chain reaction technique. Patients had follow-ups for 12-18 months to observe the scar formation.

Purpose: The capacity of nadir CA-125 levels to predict the prognosis of epithelial ovarian cancer remains controversial. This study aimed to explore whether the nadir CA-125 serum levels could predict the durations of overall survival (OS) and progression free survival (PFS) in patients with high-grade serous ovarian cancer (HG-SOC) from the USA and PRC.
Materials And Methods: A total of 616 HG-SOC patients from the MD Anderson Cancer Center (MDACC, USA) between 1990 and 2011 were retrospectively analyzed.

Objective: To reprogram amniotic fluid cells into pluripotent stem cells in order to create an optimal internal control model for directed cell differentiation.
Methods: Human amniotic fluid-derived cells (hAFDCs) from heterozygotic twin fetuses were induced by retroviral vectors encoding Oct4, Sox2, c-Myc and Klf4. In vivo pluripotency, differentiation capacity and karyotype of hAFDCs induced pluripotent stem cells (hAFDCs-iPSCs) were determined.

Purpose: Human embryonic stem cells (hESCs) are self-renewing, pluripotent cells that are valuable research tools and hold promise for use in regenerative medicine. The need for new hESC lines motivated our attempts to find a new resource for the derivation of hESC lines. The aim of this work was to establish more hESC lines from abnormal fertilized zygotes and to meet the emerging requirements for their use in cell replacement therapies, disease modeling, and basic research.

Generation of induced pluripotent stem (iPS) cells from somatic cells of patients represents a powerful tool for disease modeling, and they may have a wide range of applications in cell therapies. Olivopontocerebellar atrophy (OPCA) is a rare and debilitating neurologic disease of insidious onset, characterized by atrophy of the cerebellum pons and inferior olivary nuclei with concomitant ambulation deficits and dyscoordination. Here, we report the generation of iPS cells from skin fibroblasts of a 56-year-old female patient with familial OPCA.

Breast cancer metastasis suppressor 1 (BRMS1) is a predominantly nuclear protein that differentially regulates the expression of multiple genes, leading to suppression of metastasis without affecting orthotopic tumor growth. It has been demonstrated that BRMS1 may be correlated with advanced ovarian cancer. The aim of this study was to investi-gate the mechanisms of BRMS1 involvement in ovarian cancer metastasis.

The deposition of amyloid β-protein (Aβ) fibrils into plaques within the brain parenchyma and along cerebral blood vessels is a hallmark of Alzheimer's disease (AD). Aβ42 oligomers and fibrils cause the breakdown of neural circuits, neuronal death and eventually dementia. Drugs that inhibit Aβ42 aggregation may be a novel direction in AD drug discovery.

Cyclin D1 is one of the most commonly over-expressed oncogenes; however, its role in esophageal squamous cell carcinoma (ESCC) remains controversial. We conducted a meta-analysis of 20 studies, comprising 2,041 patients to clarify this issue. In all studies, paraffin-embedded surgical specimens were collected and the status of cyclin D1 was determined by immunohistochemistry (IHC).

Bone marrow mesenchymal stem cells (BMSC) can differentiate into diverse cell types, including adipogenic, osteogenic, chondrogenic and myogenic lineages. There are lots of BMSC accumulated in atherosclerosis vessels and differentiate into VSMC. However, it is unclear whether VSMC originated from BMSC (BMSC-SMC) could remodel the vessel in new tunica intima or promote the pathogenesis of atherosclerosis.

The role of X chromosome-linked inhibitor of apoptosis protein (XIAP)-associated factor 1 (XAF1) in mediating apoptosis has been reported but the underlying mechanism remains unclear. The present study was designed to examine the putative interaction between XAF1 and p53 and the functional importance of this interaction in regulation of apoptosis in human gastric and colon cancer cells. We first identified XAF1 as a novel target gene of p53 by the chromatin immunoprecipitation (CHIP) assay and demonstrated that wild-type p53, but not mutant p53, down-regulated XAF1 at both mRNA and protein levels, which acted mostly under the condition of high expression of XAF1 and was associated with the physical interaction between p53 and the XAF1 promoter.
