Background: We have recently developed a new Coronary Artery Tree description and Lesion EvaluaTion (CatLet) angiographic scoring system. Our preliminary studies have demonstrated its superiority over the the Synergy between percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) with Taxus and Cardiac Surgery (SYNTAX) score with respect to outcome predictions for acute myocardial infarction (AMI) patients. The current study hypothesized that the residual CatLet (rCatLet) score predicts clinical outcomes for AMI patients and that a combination with the three clinical variables (CVs)-age, creatinine, and ejection fraction, will enhance its predicting values.

Article Synopsis
  • Osteoarthritis (OA) can worsen due to low-grade inflammation, linked to an imbalance in the metabolism of arachidonic acid (AA); however, how AA metabolism genes influence OA is not well understood.
  • Researchers analyzed transcriptome data to identify key AA metabolism genes involved in OA, confirming seven hub genes that could aid in diagnosing the condition effectively.
  • The study found that these hub genes correlate with immune responses and inflammatory markers, suggesting that different clusters of patients exhibit varied immune profiles based on their expression levels, especially in older patients who tend to show higher inflammation.

Pain is commonly comorbid with anxiety; however, the neural and molecular mechanisms underlying the comorbid anxiety symptoms in pain (CASP) have not been fully elucidated. In this study, we explored the role of acid-sensing ion channel 1a (ASIC1a), located in GABAergic neurons from the central nucleus of the amygdala (GABA), in the regulation of CASP in an acute pain mouse model. We found that the mice displayed significant mechanical pain sensitization and anxiety-like behaviors one day post injection of complete Freud's adjuvant (CFA1D).

January 2023

Inflammation and Immune Mediated Diseases Laboratory of Anhui Province, Anhui Institute of Innovative Drugs, School of Pharmacy, Anhui Medical University, Hefei, China.

Article Synopsis
  • Non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) is a widespread health issue linked to obesity and insulin resistance, characterized by excessive triglyceride buildup in the liver, leading to inflammation and cell damage.
  • This study explored the role of P38γ, a protein that influences inflammation, using both in vivo and in vitro experiments to assess its impact on NAFLD in mice and liver cells.
  • The findings revealed that higher P38γ levels are associated with increased liver damage; reducing P38γ expression significantly lessened liver injury and lipid accumulation, indicating its potential as a therapeutic target for managing fatty liver disease.

Multimodal collaborative therapy has been recognized as one of the more effective means to eliminate tumors in the current biomedicine research field as compared with monotherapy. Among them, by taking advantage of its high-precision and controllability, phototherapy has become a mainstay of treatment. However, physical encapsulation of free photosensitive units within nanocarriers was one of the main implementations, which might inevitably result in the photosensitizer leakage and side effect.
