Importance: Evidence from systematic reviews of the cardioprotective effect of omega-3 polyunsaturated fatty acid (PUFA) remains controversial, and interventions including PUFAs dietary supplements or prescription medications cannot accurately reflect the role of PUFA RX in cardiovascular disease (CVD) prevention.

Objective: We conducted a meta-analysis of randomized clinical trials (RCTs) to evaluate the efficacy of PUFA prescription medication in preventing CVD.

Methods: Two reviewers conducted a literature search of Embase, MEDLINE/PubMed, and the Cochrane Library from their inception to September 2023.

Department of Gastroenterology and Chongqing Key Laboratory of Digestive Malignancies, Daping Hospital, Army Medical University (Third Military Medical University), 10 Changjiang Branch Road, Yuzhong District, Chongqing, 400042, P. R. China.

Purpose: Neoadjuvant immunochemotherapy is emerging as a promising regimen for patients with locally advanced gastric and gastroesophageal junction (G/GEJ) adenocarcinoma. However, it remains unclear whether immunochemotherapy will bring more adverse events (AEs) leading to a delay or even cancellation of surgeries. We aimed to provide a comprehensive analysis of the toxicity profiles for immune checkpoint inhibitors (ICIs) combined with chemotherapy among patients with G/GEJ adenocarcinoma.

Purpose: Glaucoma filtration surgery (GFS) stands as a paramount clinical intervention for glaucoma. Nonetheless, the prevalent cause of GFS failure is filtration bleb scarring, and the role of inflammation and immune response in contributing to fibrosis remains elusive.

Methods: The study employed 30 female Sprague-Dawley rats (8 weeks old, 200-250 g) to assess the anti-scarring impact of the Chemokine (C-C motif) receptor 5 (CCR5)-Chemokine (C-C motif) ligand 5 (CCL5) antibody after GFS.

Implications of the NDC80 complex on the tumor immune microenvironment and cell growth in pan-cancer.

J Cancer

October 2024

Institute of Hematology, Faculty of Life Sciences and Medicine, Northwest University, Xi'an 710069, Shaanxi, China.

Previous evidence indicates that the NDC80 complex, a conserved spindle microtubule-binding component of the kinetochore, is overexpressed and associated with prognosis in certain cancer types. Herein, we assessed the expression and prognostic value of NDC80 complex components in pan-cancer and interrogated their potential functions in tumor context through multiple databases and software. Our findings showed that the expression of NDC80 complex components was aberrant across almost all cancer types and correlated positively with poor prognosis at the pan-cancer level.

  • RNA modifications influence cancer growth, and our research focuses on NAT10, which is found to be increased in ovarian cancer and linked to poorer outcomes for patients.
  • We discovered that IGF2BP1 boosts NAT10 mRNA translation, and NAT10 increases the stability of ACOT7 mRNA through specific modifications, promoting tumor growth by affecting fatty acid metabolism and reducing a type of cell death called ferroptosis.
  • Our findings suggest that the drug fludarabine can effectively inhibit NAT10, reduce ACOT7 levels, and suppress ovarian cancer growth in lab models, pointing towards a possible new treatment approach targeting NAT10 modifications.

Introduction: Ovarian cancer is the most malignant gynecological tumor. Previous studies have demonstrated that chimeric antigen receptor (CAR)-engineered NK-92 cells targeting folate receptor α (αFR) (NK-92-αFR-CAR) can specifically kill αFR-positive ovarian cancer cells. However, the migration barrier restricts antitumor effects of CAR-engineered cells.

September 2024

Department of Trauma Surgery, Medical Center of Trauma and War Injury, State Key Laboratory of Trauma, Burns and Combined Injuries, Daping Hospital, Army Medical University (Third Military Medical University), Chongqing, China.

Article Synopsis
  • Researchers developed a new device called Modified EHCD (M-EHCD) to improve the control of non-compressible torso hemorrhage (NCTH) in emergency care, utilizing intermittent hemostasis to address potential tissue damage during blood flow restoration.
  • In an experiment with 18 pigs, the M-EHCD was tested against two existing devices, the AAJT and SJT, showing faster application time and significantly less blood loss during hemorrhagic shock.
  • Results indicated that M-EHCD not only effectively controlled bleeding but also led to better heart rate management and lower internal pressure changes compared to the other devices, potentially improving patient outcomes in real-life trauma scenarios.
