Background: We report a rare case of locally advanced esophageal cancer with a right aortic arch (RAA), successfully treated with neoadjuvant immunotherapy and minimally invasive esophagectomy, guided by three-dimensional (3D) reconstruction.

Case Presentation: A 50-year-old male with stage III esophageal squamous cell carcinoma (cT3N0M0) and RAA underwent four cycles of neoadjuvant immunotherapy with sintilimab, resulting in significant tumor regression. Minimally invasive esophagectomy was performed with the aid of preoperative 3D reconstruction, which was critical in navigating the complex vascular anatomy and ensuring surgical precision.

Introduction: What interventions effectively prevent postoperative stenosis following endoscopic resection (ER) of superficial esophageal cancer? This study aimed to identify effective interventions or combinations through a systematic review and network meta-analysis.

Methods: Six databases were systematically searched for eligible studies up to 30 April 2023, on interventions to prevent esophageal stenosis post-ER. Odds ratios (ORs) evaluated stenosis rate (primary outcome) and complications (secondary outcome), while mean differences (MD) evaluated endoscopic balloon dilatation (EBD) sessions post-stenosis.

Background: Thoracic SMARCA4-deficient undifferentiated tumors (SMARCA4-UT) exhibit a notably aggressive phenotype, which is associated with poor patient survival outcomes. These tumors are generally resistant to conventional cytotoxic chemotherapy, thereby limiting the availability of effective treatment options.

Case Presentation: We describe a 69-year-old AIDS patient who initially presented with a fused, enlarged lymph node on the right clavicle and mild, unexplained pain under the right axilla that worsened with severe coughing episodes.

Bone defects are difficult to treat clinically and most often require bone grafting for repair. However, the source of autograft bone is limited, and allograft bone carries the risk of disease transmission and immune rejection. As tissue engineering technology advances, bone replacement materials are playing an increasingly important role in the treatment of bone defects.

Osteosarcoma is a malignant bone tumor originating from mesenchymal tissue. Recent studies have found that the tumor inflammatory microenvironment plays an important role in promoting the malignant characteristics and metastatic potential of malignant tumors. Pyroptosis, an inflammatory programmed cell death, elicits immune responses that exhibit anti-tumor effects through released factors and contents.

High-risk factors and predictive models for hemorrhagic chronic radiation proctitis.

Eur J Med Res

January 2025

Department of Clinical Nutrition, The Third Affiliated Hospital of Chongqing Medical University, Chongqing, China.

Introduction: Hemorrhagic chronic radiation proctitis (CRP) is a common and challenging complication after pelvic radiation therapy. Identifying high-risk factors, predicting its occurrence, and optimizing radiotherapy plans are key to preventing hemorrhagic CRP. This study retrospectively examined potential risk factors and developed a nomogram to predict its onset.

Endometrial cancer (EC) is a common gynecological malignancy for which polycystic ovarian syndrome (PCOS) has been identified as a significant risk factor. Quercetin, a widely distributed natural flavonoid, has demonstrated potential therapeutic effects in managing both PCOS and EC. However, the specific molecular targets of quercetin in the context of PCOS comorbid with EC (PCOS-EC) remain poorly defined.

Background: The pathogenesis of acute kidney injury (AKI) is not fully understood. Tax1-binding protein 1 (TAX1BP1) modulates inflammation and apoptosis through the NF-kB signaling pathway, however, its specific role in ischemic AKI remains unclear.

Methods: We injected a TAX1BP1 overexpression plasmid into the tail vein of male C57BL/6 mice, followed by clamping the bilateral renal arteries to induce AKI.

Gastrointestinal lesions of eosinophilic granulomatosis with polyangiitis: a prediction model and clinical patterns.

Arthritis Res Ther

January 2025

Department of Rheumatology and Clinical Immunology, Peking Union Medical College Hospital, the Ministry of Education Key Laboratory, Chinese Academy of Medical Sciences & Peking Union Medical College, National Clinical Research Center for Dermatologic and Immunologic Diseases, Beijing, China.

Objective: Severe gastrointestinal lesions are associated with a poor prognosis in eosinophilic granulomatosis with polyangiitis (EGPA). The goal of this study was to develop an effective predictive model for gastrointestinal lesions and to examine clinical patterns, associated factors, treatment, and outcomes of gastrointestinal lesions in EGPA.

Methods: We retrospectively enrolled 165 EGPA patients.

Background: Laparoscopic anatomical liver resection has become more challenging because some subsegmental Glissonean pedicles are hard to dissect. Here, we introduce how to dissect every (sub) segmental Glissonean pedicle from the first porta hepatis and perform standardized (sub) segmentectomy [from segment 1 (S1) to S8].

Aim: To summarize our methods of laparoscopic anatomical segmental and subsegmental liver resection.

Department of Orthopedics, The Third Affiliated Hospital of Chongqing Medical University, Chongqing 401120, China; Tissue Repairing and Biotechnology Research Center, The Third Affiliated Hospital of Chongqing Medical University, Chongqing 401120, China. Electronic address:

Article Synopsis
  • Medical treatments for intervertebral disc degeneration (IDD) focus mainly on symptom relief, while effective regeneration therapies are still needed.
  • Recent findings show a negative correlation between AQP3 levels and disc degeneration, indicating its importance in maintaining disc health.
  • The study introduces a novel liposome-encapsulated AQP3 in GelMA (AQP3-lipo@GelMA) that improves cell recognition and enhances the repair of degenerated discs, showing promise for clinical use.

A New Hybrid Quantitative Evaluation Model for Axillary Junctional Hemorrhage in Swine.

J Vis Exp

December 2024

State Key Laboratory of Trauma, Burns and Combined Injuries, Medical Center of Trauma and War Injury, Daping Hospital, Army Medical University;

In this study, we developed and validated a hybrid quantitative model for simulating upper extremity junctional hemorrhage in swine, aiming to advance the development of pre-hospital hemostatic products. Utilizing 12 healthy 8-month-old male Yorkshire swine, we demonstrated the feasibility of a swine axillary artery injury model for evaluating hemostatic efficacy. Animals were divided into three groups to undergo volume-controlled hemorrhage (VCH), mimicking Class I-III hemorrhagic shock by withdrawing blood at different rates.

Non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) is a leading cause of cancer mortality worldwide, necessitating new treatment approaches with minimal side effects. In the present study, the potential of Bergapten (5-methoxypsoralen), a natural furanocoumarin compound, as a therapeutic agent against NSCLC was investigated by using network pharmacology, molecular docking and validation. Bergapten targets were identified using the Traditional Chinese Medicine Systems Pharmacology Database and Analysis Platform and SwissTarget databases, whilst lung cancer-related targets were sourced from GeneCards and DisGeNET.

Elevated lipid metabolism is one of hallmarks of malignant tumors. Lipids not only serve as essential structural components of biological membranes but also provide energy and substrates for the proliferation of cancer cells and tumor growth. Cancer cells meet their lipid needs by coordinating the processes of lipid absorption, synthesis, transport, storage, and catabolism.
