Trend in women representation among authors of high rank rheumatology journals articles, 2002-2019.

Objective: The representation of women among authors of peer reviewed scientific papers is gradually increasing. The aims of this study were to examine the trend of the proportion of women among authors in the field of rheumatology during the last two decades.

Methods: Articles published in journals ranked in the top quartile of the field of rheumatology in the years 2002-2019 were analysed.

Protein C global assay evaluation in naturally conceived vs. assisted reproduction-achieved twin pregnancies: a prospective longitudinal study.

Purpose: Protein C global assay tests the global function of the protein C pathway, the most clinically significant anticoagulant pathway in humans. The objective of this study is to assess the difference in protein C global assay levels, throughout twin gestation, in naturally conceiving and ART-treated women.

Methods: This is a prospective cohort longitudinal study of pregnant women with twin gestation.

Biochar-Assisted Iron-Mediated Water Electrolysis Process for Hydrogen Production.

The biochar-assisted water electrolysis process for hydrogen gas production is reported. The H generation is performed in a divided electrolysis cell in which the hydrogen evolution reaction occurs on a cathode and ferrous iron oxidation on an anode. Electrochemically produced Fe(III) species are reduced back to ferrous form in a reaction with biochar concentrated in a packed-bed column through which an acidic anolyte (FeCl) solution is continuously recirculated.

Management of Pediatric Orbital Fractures.

Introduction: Although uncommon in children, orbital fractures can be devastating to both vision and appearance. Due to the scarce information in the literature, the authors here present our experience and management with all pediatric orbital fracture patients.

Material And Methods: A 6-years retrospective study was conducted on pediatric patients presented with orbital wall fracture (OFx).

Relationship between baseline cardiac biomarkers and cardiovascular death or hospitalization for heart failure with and without sodium-glucose co-transporter 2 inhibitor therapy in DECLARE-TIMI 58.

Aims: Dapagliflozin reduced the risk of the composite of cardiovascular (CV) death or hospitalization for heart failure (HHF) in patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus in DECLARE-TIMI 58. We hypothesized that baseline N-terminal pro B-type natriuretic peptide (NT-proBNP) and high-sensitivity troponin T (hsTnT) levels would help identify patients who are at higher baseline risk and we describe the treatment effects of dapagliflozin in patients according to their baseline NT-proBNP and hsTnT levels.

Methods And Results: This was a pre-specified biomarker study from DECLARE-TIMI 58, a randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled CV outcomes trial of dapagliflozin.

Intermittent Appearance of Antibodies to Infliximab Is Not Associated With Reduced Efficacy in Patients With Inflammatory Bowel Diseases.

Goals: To assess the clinical significance of antibodies to infliximab (ATI) formation in patients with inflammatory bowel disease (IBD).

Background: Infliximab therapy in patients with IBD is highly effective though up to 50% of patients lose response to infliximab. ATI formation occurs in 6% to 60% of patients on scheduled infliximab maintenance therapy.

Phase 3 Trial of Interleukin-1 Trap Rilonacept in Recurrent Pericarditis.

Background: Interleukin-1 has been implicated as a mediator of recurrent pericarditis. The efficacy and safety of rilonacept, an interleukin-1α and interleukin-1β cytokine trap, were studied previously in a phase 2 trial involving patients with recurrent pericarditis.

Methods: We conducted a phase 3 multicenter, double-blind, event-driven, randomized-withdrawal trial of rilonacept in patients with acute symptoms of recurrent pericarditis (as assessed on a patient-reported scale) and systemic inflammation (as shown by an elevated C-reactive protein [CRP] level).

Gastric Fistula in the Chest After Sleeve Gastrectomy: a Systematic Review of Diagnostic and Treatment Options.

This study aimed to establish the optimal diagnostic and treatment algorithm for the management of gastric fistula in the chest (GFIC) after sleeve gastrectomy (SG) through a systematic review of published cases. A multi-database search was performed, which produced 1182 results, of which 26 studies were included in this systematic review. The initial presentation included subphrenic collections, leaks, or (recurrent) pneumonia with associated symptoms such as persistent cough, fever, and/or dyspnea.

Structures of ABC transporters: handle with care.

In the past two decades, the ATP-binding cassette (ABC) transporters' field has undergone a structural revolution. The importance of structural biology to the development of the field of ABC transporters cannot be overstated, as the ensemble of structures not only revealed the architecture of ABC transporters but also shaped our mechanistic view of these remarkable molecular machines. Nevertheless, we advocate that the mechanistic interpretation of the structures is not trivial and should be carried out with prudence.

Predicting response of ischemic central retinal vein occlusion to bevacizumab injections: 1 year follow-up.

Purpose: To identify baseline optical coherence tomography (OCT) factors in ischemic central retinal vein occlusion (CRVO) that predict response to bevacizumab injections.

Methods: Patients underwent OCT at diagnosis and the central macular thickness, subretinal fluid width and height as well as the presence of intraretinal cysts were measured. The extent of disorganized retinal inner layers, outer plexiform layer (OPL), external limiting membrane, ellipsoid zone and cone outer segment tips (COST) was recorded.

Degenerated oocyte in the cohort adversely affects IVF outcome.

The presence of Degenerated Oocyte (DEG) was mostly described after intracytoplasmic sperm injection (ICSI), with fewer reports on DEG at the time of ovum pick-up (OPU). This study aims to assess morphokinetics of embryos cultured in a time-lapse incubator and compare cohorts with and without DEG at OPU. In a retrospective cohort study from January 1, 2016 until September 31, 2017 a total of 399 IVF/ICSI cycles and 2980 embryos were evaluated.

Aim: To determine how baseline disease severity, pancreatic insufficiency (PI) and Pseudomonas aeruginosa (PA) infection affect fertility, the pregnancy course, delivery, neonatal outcome, and subsequent disease progression.

Microfluidic device for coupling isotachophoretic sample focusing with nanopore single-molecule sensing.

Solid-state nanopores (NPs) are label-free single-molecule sensors, capable of performing highly sensitive assays from a small number of biomolecule translocation events. However, single-molecule sensing is challenging at extremely low analyte concentrations due to the limited flux of analytes to the sensing volume. This leads to a low event rate and increases the overall assay time.

Nontuberculous mycobacteria infections of peritoneal dialysis patients: A multicenter study.

Objectives: Nontuberculous mycobacteria (NTM) infections pose a diagnostic challenge in peritoneal dialysis (PD) patients. In this study, we sought to identify findings that are suggestive of NTM infection in PD adult patients.

Methods: All patients with NTM exit-site infection (ESI) with/without tunnel infection and peritonitis identified during the last decade in eight medical centers in Israel were included.

Prenatal clubfoot increases the risk for clinically significant chromosomal microarray results - Analysis of 269 singleton pregnancies.

Objective: To examine the detection rate of clinically significant chromosomal microarray analysis (CMA) results in singleton pregnancies with clubfoot.

Methods: Data from all CMA tests in singleton pregnancies with sonographic diagnosis of clubfoot (talipes equinovarus) performed between January 2013 and September 2017 were retrospectively obtained from the Israeli Ministry of Health computerized database. The rates of clinically significant CMA results in fetuses with clubfoot were compared to the general population risk, based on a local cohort of 5541 pregnancies with no major sonographic anomalies.

Distinct Allosteric Networks Underlie Mechanistic Speciation of ABC Transporters.

ABC transporters couple the energy of ATP hydrolysis to the transmembrane transport of biomolecules. Here, we investigated the allosteric networks of three representative ABC transporters using a hybrid molecular simulations approach validated by experiments. Each of the three transporters uses a different allosteric network: in the constitutive B12 importer BtuCD, ATP binding is the main driver of allostery and docking/undocking of the substrate-binding protein (SBP) is the driven event.

Greater functional connectivity within the cingulo-opercular and ventral attention networks is related to better fluent reading: A resting-state functional connectivity study.

Executive functions are higher-order cognitive abilities that affect many of our daily actions, including reading. A two-system model for cognitive control comprises a bottom-up system composed of the dorsal and ventral attention networks and a more evolved top-down system involving the frontoparietal and cingulo-opercular networks. We examined both within- and between-network functional connectivity of these four networks in 26 8-12-year-old children with readong difficulties and 30 age-matched typical readers using resting-state functional MRI.

Sex for seniors: how physicians discuss older adult's sexuality.

The effectiveness of foot reflexology in reducing anxiety and duration of labor in primiparas: An open-label randomized controlled trial.

Background And Purpose: Reflexology alleviates anxiety and may shorten the duration of labor. We evaluated the effect of reflexology on anxiety level and duration of labor in primiparas with moderate-to-severe anxiety.

Materials And Methods: In this open-label randomized-controlled trial, primiparas with moderate-to-severe anxiety were randomized into one of two groups: addition of reflexology to usual care, or usual care only.

You may be more original than you think: Predictable biases in self-assessment of originality.

How accurate are individuals in judging the originality of their own ideas? Most metacognitive research has focused on well-defined tasks, such as learning, memory, and problem solving, providing limited insight into ill-defined tasks. The present study introduces a novel metacognitive self-judgment of originality, defined as assessments of the uniqueness of an idea in a given context. In three experiments, we examined the reliability, potential biases, and factors affecting originality judgments.

Recommendations for travelling with bronchiectasis: a joint ELF/EMBARC/ERN-Lung collaboration.

Introduction: People with bronchiectasis frequently request specialist advice to prepare for travelling, but there are few publications providing advice on safe travel with bronchiectasis. There is a need for recommendations on adapting everyday treatment to the requirements during travelling.

Methods: A panel of 13 patient volunteers formulated questions regarding different aspects of travelling, including safety of travel, maintaining regular treatment during travel, and dealing with deterioration while away.
