Exploring the relationship between vitamin D and hepatic carcinoma in individuals diagnosed with hepatitis B virus infection.

Objective: The primary objective of this study is to examine the distribution and prognostic implications of serum vitamin D levels among individuals diagnosed with primary hepatic carcinoma (PHC) attributable to hepatitis B virus (HBV) infection.

Methods: A total of 345 patients diagnosed with HBV infection were enrolled in our hospital between August 2014 and October 2020. Among these, 144 individuals were diagnosed with chronic hepatitis B (CHB), 66 individuals were diagnosed with HBV-related hepatic cirrhosis (HBV cirrhosis), and 135 individuals were diagnosed with HBV-related PHC (HBV-PHC).

Prognostic performance of serum YKL-40 for one-year clinical outcomes in acute ischemic stroke.

Background: Effects of YKL-40 on one-year clinical outcomes including poor clinical outcome, all-cause mortality, and stroke recurrence among acute ischemic stroke (AIS) patients remained elusive. The purpose of this study was to explore the association between serum YKL-40 at admission and one-year clinical outcomes in AIS patients.

Methods: In this prospective cohort study, a total of 1002 participants out of 1361 AIS patients from two centers were included for current analysis.

Serum YKL-40 Levels and White Matter Hyperintensities in Patients with Acute Ischemic Stroke.

Background: White matter hyperintensity (WMH) is associated with risk of acute ischemic stroke (AIS) and poor outcomes after AIS. The purpose of this prospective study was to evaluate the association between serum YKL-40 levels and WMH burden in patients with AIS.

Methods: From February 2020 to March 2021, a total of 672 consecutive AIS patients with magnetic resonance imaging data were prospectively recruited form two centers.

Purpose: This study aimed to investigate the relationship between cognitive impairment and homocysteine (Hcy) and S100B protein in patients with progressive ischemic stroke (PIS).

Patients And Methods: A total of 158 patients with PIS hospitalized in the Department of Neurology in Taixing People's Hospital from January 2020 to March 2022 were enrolled in the study. After 90 days of follow-up, the patients were divided into two groups according to the MoCA score-99 cases with cognitive impairment group (observation group) and 59 cases with cognitive normal group (control group).

Purpose: We evaluated the diagnostic value of long non-coding RNA growth arrest-specific transcript 5 (GAS5) and its relationship with hippocampal volume in Alzheimer's disease (AD).

Patients And Methods: One hundred and eight patients with AD and 83 healthy controls were included, and demographic data, biochemical parameters, GAS5 levels, and hippocampal volume were recorded. Chi-squared tests or independent sample t-tests were used to compare the baseline characteristics, relative expression of GAS5, and hippocampal volume.

Restless legs syndrome (RLS) is a distinct neurological sensorimotor disorder. Pontine infarction is a rare but possible cause of RLS.

The aim of this study was to investigate whether the expression of miR-124 correlated with radiosensitivity in the context of non-small-cell lung carcinoma (NSCLC).

Methods: Quantitative reverse transcription polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR) was used to quantify miR-124 expression in NSCLC tissues and cell lines.

Background/aims: The HOX transcript antisense intergenic RNA (HOTAIR), a long non-coding RNA (lncRNA), plays an important role in the pathogenesis and progression of multiple tumors. The aim of the present study was to evaluate whether common single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) in HOTAIR are related to hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) susceptibility in a Chinese population.

Methods: We genotyped three SNPs of HOTAIR in a hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) case-control study, including 482 cases and 520 control subjects.

Epithelial ovarian cancer (EOC) is the most fatal malignancies in females worldwide, with increasing incidence recently in China. MiR-153 was reported to be dysregulated in some human cancers, including EOC. In this study, we explored the roles of miR-153 and its target AKT1 in regulating growth and migration in EOC.

Association of CD14 C159T polymorphism with atopic asthma susceptibility in children from Southeastern China: a case-control study.

CD14 is involved in primary immune and inflammatory responses. The -159 C/T variation in the CD14 gene plays an important role in regulating CD14 expression and has been associated with the susceptibility to various diseases, including allergies. In this study, we examined the association between the C-159T polymorphism and atopic asthma susceptibility in children from Southeastern China.

Effect of a pre-microRNA-149 (miR-149) genetic variation on the risk of ischemic stroke in a Chinese Han population.

Clinical and experimental data have demonstrated that genetic factors play an important role in determining the susceptibility to ischemic stroke (IS). The present study was performed to clarify the association between the pre-microRNA-149 (miR-149) single nucleotide polymorphism rs71428439 and the risk of IS in the Jiangsu Han population. Polymerase chain reaction and restriction fragment length polymorphism were performed to identify the genotypes of the miR-149 single-nucleotide polymorphism rs71428439 in 730 unrelated subjects (IS, 348; healthy controls, 382).
