Background And Hypothesis: The impact of preoperative fatty infiltration of specific rotator cuff muscles on the outcomes of reverse total shoulder arthroplasty (rTSA) has not been well defined. Preoperative fatty infiltration of the shoulder musculature will negatively affect rTSA outcomes.
Methods: A comprehensive literature review was conducted as per the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-analyses using PubMed, Embase, OVID Medline, Scopus, Cinahl, Web of Science, and Cochrane databases for original, English-language studies evaluating effect of fatty infiltration of shoulder musculature on rTSA outcomes published from January 1, 2000 to present.

Purpose: Despite increasing interest in utilizing quadriceps tendon (QT) grafts in anterior cruciate ligament reconstruction (ACLR), data on the optimal quadriceps graft thickness are limited. The purpose of this study was to characterize the mechanical properties for the quadriceps tendon, comparing full-thickness (FT) QT grafts with and without bone to a partial-thickness (PT) QT graft, and comparing the three QT grafts to four-stranded semitendinosus (4-SST) and bone-patellar tendon-bone (BTB) grafts and one experimental graft, the two-stranded rectus femoris (RF).
Methods: Forty-eight (n = 48) young cadaveric grafts (mean age 32 ± 6 years) were utilized for testing with N = 8 specimens in each of the following groups; (1) FT QT with bone, (2) FT QT without bone, (3) PT QT without bone, (4) BTB, (5) RF, and (6) 4-SST.
Background: Based on previous studies, it is difficult to discern whether patients who have femoroacetabular impingement (FAI) with borderline developmental dysplasia of the hip (BDDH) would benefit from arthroscopy when compared with patients without BDDH.

Purpose: We sought to qualitatively and quantitatively describe characteristics of Hill-Sachs lesions (HSL) in a cohort of anterior shoulder instability patients using advanced 3-dimensional (3-D) modeling software and assess the impact of various HSL parameters on the HSL volume, location, and orientation in patients with anterior shoulder instability.
Methods: A total of 100 recurrent anterior instability patients with evidence of HSL with a mean age of 27.2 years (range = 18 to 43 years) were evaluated.
Background: The purposes of this study were to determine (1) if cartilage thicknesses on the talar dome and medial/lateral surfaces of the talus were similar, (2) whether there was sufficient donor cartilage surface area on the medial and lateral talar surfaces to repair talar dome cartilage injuries of the talus, and (3) whether the cartilage surface could be increased following anterior talofibular ligament (ATFL) and sectioning of the tibionavicular and tibiospring portion of the anterior deltoid.
Methods: Medial and lateral approaches were utilized in 8 cadaveric ankles to identify the accessible medial, lateral, and talar dome cartilage surfaces in 3 conditions: (1) intact, (2) ATFL release, and (3) superficial anterior deltoid ligament release. The talus was explanted, and the cartilage areas were digitized with a coordinate measuring machine.

Aging drives progressive loss of the ability of tissues to recover from stress, partly through loss of somatic stem cell function and increased senescent burden. We demonstrate that bone marrow-derived mesenchymal stem cells (BM-MSCs) rapidly senescence and become dysfunctional in culture. This study investigated the role of muscle damage in bone defect healing using skull and tibial double-defect and tibial fracture models in dystrophin/Utrophin double-knockout (dKO-Hom) mice. The skull and tibia bone defect and fracture healing was monitored using micro-CT, histology, immuohistochemistry and quantitative PCR. We found the skull defect healing is not impaired while the tibial defect healing was delayed at day 7 in the dKO-Hom group compared to wild-type (WT) group as revealed by micro-CT.

Purpose: To establish the characteristics of synovium-derived mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs) from the hip joints of patients with femoroacetabular impingement syndrome (FAIS) and osteoarthritis (OA), particularly their proliferation and differentiation potentials. We further investigated their functional differences.
Methods: Synovium samples were harvested from 21 patients with FAIS who underwent hip arthroscopic surgery and from 14 patients with OA who underwent total hip arthroplasty.
Numerous operative techniques have been described for acromioclavicular and coracoclavicular ligament reconstruction for the treatment of acromioclavicular joint instability. Injuries of this nature are commonly sustained by contact-sport athletes in high-impact collisions or falls. Traumatic injury to the acromioclavicular joint and ligamentous structures can range in severity, as can the degree of subsequent joint instability.
