The synthesis and characterization of a series of (TBA)[M{MoO(OMe)NO}] (M = Zr, Hf, Th, and U) sandwich complexes is reported. A preformed lacunary, Lindqvist-type, polyoxomolybdate-alkoxide cluster provides access to first examples of actinide-polyoxomolybdate sandwich complexes isolated under non-aqueous conditions. Incorporation of metal(iv) cations into this framework was found to "switch on" reversible redox chemistry at the {Mo} ligands, with the Zr and Hf containing complexes accepting up to two electrons, while the Th and U derivates accommodate as many as four additional electrons.

Single Fe sites have been explored as promising catalysts for the CO reduction reaction to value-added CO. Herein, we introduce a novel molten salt synthesis strategy for developing axial nitrogen-coordinated Fe-N sites on ultrathin defect-rich carbon nanosheets, aiming to modulate the reaction pathway precisely. This distinctive architecture weakens the spin polarization at the Fe sites, promoting a dynamic equilibrium of activated intermediates and facilitating the balance between *COOH formation and *CO desorption at the active Fe site.

Automatic speech recognition (ASR) is an emerging technology that has been used in recognizing non-typical speech of people with speech impairment and enhancing the language sample transcription process in communication sciences and disorders. However, the feasibility of using ASR for recognizing speech samples from high-tech Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC) systems has not been investigated. This proof-of-concept paper aims to investigate the feasibility of using AAC-ASR to transcribe language samples generated by high-tech AAC systems and compares the recognition accuracy of two published ASR models: CMU Sphinx and Google Speech-to-text.

Although prior work indicates that exposure to multiple family risk factors negatively impacts adjustment in childhood and adolescence, few studies have examined whether children in high-risk families transition in and out of adversity during early childhood and whether patterns of change matter for adjustment in adolescence. Using data from a sample of 216 caregiver-child dyads participating in a study of prenatal cocaine exposure (116 exposed and 100 non-exposed; 50.9% girls), we used latent transition analysis to identify distinct profiles of early exposure to caregiver substance use (SU) and SU-related familial risk (caregiver psychological distress, exposure to violence, harshness, and low sensitivity) and the association between these profiles and adolescent well-being (i.

Two aromatic oligoamides, the 8-residue H8 and 16-residue H16, that adopt stable, cavity-containing helical conformations were examined for their complexation of a rodlike dicationic guest, octyl viologen (OV) and -bis(trimethylammonium)benzene (TB). Studies based on 1D and 2D H NMR, isothermal titration calorimetry (ITC), and X-ray crystallography demonstrated that H8 and H16 wraps around two OV ions as a double helix and a single helix, respectively, resulting in 2 : 2 and 1 : 2 complexes. Compared to H8, the longer H16 binds the OV ions with much higher binding affinity and with extraordinary negative cooperativity.

Thermal management in energy-efficient solar thermal energy conversion and transparent windows requires advanced materials with low thermal conductivity and high transparency, such as transparent silica aerogel materials. However, the large scatter domains in porous silica materials would deteriorate their optical transparency. Herein, we report transparent silica aerogels by controlling hydrolyzation and meanwhile silylation modification to enhance the integrity of the microstructure under ambient pressure drying.

Hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) is the second leading cause of cancer-related death worldwide, and non-alcoholic fatty liver disease is strongly associated with its development. To explore the role of adipocytes in HCC, we investigated intratumoral adipocytes, also known as cancer-associated adipocytes (CAA). Based on our prior breast cancer findings, we hypothesized that low intratumoral adipocytes would be associated with aggressive cancer biology, worse tumor microenvironment (TME), and clinical outcomes.

Incorporation of magnetic and electric orders in a form of multiferroics is an interesting topic in materials science. Making a molecular heterogeneous composite by incorporating the molecular magnet vanadium-chromium Prussian blue analogue (V-Cr PBA) and a molecular ferroelectric imidazolium chloride CNH-ClO (ImClO) provides a pathway towards achieving the room temperature magnetoelectric effect. The change of magnetization of about 6% is shown as a result of applying an electric field (21 kV cm) to the composite made of the aforementioned molecular crystals at room temperature.

Sphingosine-1-Phosphate (S1P) is produced by Sphingosine Kinase 1 (SphK1) in the cell and is transported out of the cells by ABCC1 transporter. S1P induces inflammation, angiogenesis and modulates tumor immune microenvironment (TIME) in autocrine and paracrine manner. We hypothesized that high S1P export is associated with hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) progression and worse survival.
