Congenital proximal renal tubular acidosis (pRTA) is a rare systemic disease caused by mutations in the gene that encodes the electrogenic sodium bicarbonate cotransporter, NBCe1. The major NBCe1 protein variants are designated NBCe1-A, NBCe1-B, and NBCe1-C. NBCe1-A expression is kidney-specific, NBCe1-B is broadly expressed and is the only NBCe1 variant expressed in the heart, and NBCe1-C is a splice variant of NBCe1-B that is expressed in the brain.

Triple-negative breast cancer (TNBC), which constitutes 10-20 percent of all breast cancers, is aggressive, has high metastatic potential, and carries a poor prognosis due to limited treatment options. LT-IIc, a member of the type II subfamily of ADP-ribosylating-heat-labile enterotoxins that bind to a distinctive set of cell-surface ganglioside receptors-is cytotoxic toward TNBC cell lines, but has no cytotoxic activity for non-transformed breast epithelial cells. Here, primary TNBC cells, isolated from resected human tumors, showed an enhanced cytotoxic response specifically toward LT-IIc, in contrast to other enterotoxins that were tested.

Objectives: Urologists represent functional alternatives for transplant surgeons, but their involvement is minimal. Evaluating urologists' interests in transplant and identifying associated factors may help to determine whether recruitment of more urological providers is a viable strategy to address transplant surgeon shortages in the United States.

Materials And Methods: We emailed a 10-question survey to individuals pursuing urology in the United States and collected demographic data, education and training backgrounds, and preferences for proposed integrated residency programs and abbreviated transplant fellowships.

The hmuR operon encodes proteins for the uptake and utilization of heme as a nutritional iron source in Bradyrhizobium japonicum. The hmuR operon is transcriptionally activated by the Irr protein and is also positively controlled by HmuP by an unknown mechanism. An hmuP mutant does not express the hmuR operon genes nor does it grow on heme.

Recent usage of Virtual Reality (VR) technology in surgical training has emerged because of its cost-effectiveness, time savings, and cognition-based feedback generation. However, the quantitative evaluation of its effectiveness in training is still not studied thoroughly. Rhabdoid tumor predisposition syndrome (RTPS) is a rare disorder associated with malignant rhabdoid tumor of the kidney (RTK), atypical teratoid rhabdoid tumor (ATRT), and/or other extracranial, extrarenal rhabdoid tumors (EERT), and these pediatric malignancies are difficult to treat. Presently, most of the information regarding clinical manifestations, treatment, and outcomes of rhabdoid tumors comes from large data registries and case series. Our current understanding of treatments for patients with rhabdoid tumors may inform how we approach patients with RTPS.

The Bradyrhizobium japonicum exporter ExsFGH is involved in efflux of ferric xenosiderophores from the periplasm.

The gram-negative bacterium Bradyrhizobium japonicum can take up structurally dissimilar ferric siderophores from the environment (xenosiderophores) to meet its nutritional iron requirements. Siderophore-bound iron transported into the periplasm is reduced to the ferrous form by FsrB, dissociated from the siderophore and the free ion is then transported into the cytoplasm by the ferrous iron transporter FeoAB. Here, we identified the RND family exporter genes exsFG and exsH in a selection for secondary site suppressor mutants that restore growth of an fsrB mutant on the siderophores ferrichrome or ferrioxamine.

The small-molecule drug ralimetinib was developed as an inhibitor of the p38α mitogen-activated protein kinase, and it has advanced to phase 2 clinical trials in oncology. Here, we demonstrate that ralimetinib resembles EGFR-targeting drugs in pharmacogenomic profiling experiments and that ralimetinib inhibits EGFR kinase activity in vitro and in cellulo. While ralimetinib sensitivity is unaffected by deletion of the genes encoding p38α and p38β, its effects are blocked by expression of the EGFR-T790M gatekeeper mutation.

The sodium-bicarbonate cotransporter (NBCe1) has three primary variants: NBCe1-A, -B and -C. NBCe1-A is expressed in renal proximal tubules in the cortical labyrinth, where it is essential for reclaiming filtered bicarbonate, such that NBCe1-A knockout mice are congenitally acidemic. NBCe1-B and -C variants are expressed in chemosensitive regions of the brainstem, while NBCe1-B is also expressed in renal proximal tubules located in the outer medulla.

In multicopper oxidases (MCOs), the type 1 (T1) Cu accepts electrons from the substrate and transfers these to the trinuclear Cu cluster (TNC) where O is reduced to HO. The T1 potential in MCOs varies from 340 to 780 mV, a range not explained by the existing literature. This study focused on the ∼350 mV difference in potential of the T1 center in Fet3p and laccase (TvL) that have the same 2His1Cys ligand set.

The opportunity gap, or conditions and barriers that impede the academic performance and school experience of minoritized students, may be exacerbated by educators' implicit biases. The aim of this qualitative study was to understand preservice educators' awareness of individual, structural, and systemic racism with regard to implicit bias. Our sample included 154 preservice educators, enrolled in an anti-bullying/harassment/discrimination training, which is required for any New York State (NYS) educator certification.
