Background: Bilateral hip arthroplasty is a common surgical intervention for patients with bilateral hip disease. The decision between simultaneous versus staged procedures remains debated, primarily due to concerns over cost, postoperative recovery, and complication rates. This study aimed to evaluate the economic burden and clinical outcomes of simultaneous versus staged bilateral hip arthroplasty.

Background: Hepatic artery occlusion (HAO) after liver transplantation (LT) is a devastating complication, resulting in early graft loss and reduced overall survival. Ultrasound is an established assessment method for HAO in patients following LT, especially those with complex hepatic artery reconstruction.
Aim: To investigate the ultrasound characteristics and analyze the risk factors associated with HAO in patients after LT.

Regulatory T cells (Tregs) prevent autoimmunity and contribute to cancer progression. They exert contact-dependent inhibition of immune cells through the production of active transforming growth factor-β1 (TGF-β1). However, the absence of a specific surface marker makes inhibiting the production of active TGF-β1 to specifically deplete human Tregs but not other cell types a challenge.

In vertebrates, the central nervous system (CNS) harbours various immune cells, including parenchymal microglia, perivascular macrophages and dendritic cells, which act in coordination to establish an immune network to regulate neurogenesis and neural function, and to maintain the homeostasis of the CNS. Recent single cell transcriptomic profiling has revealed that the adult zebrafish CNS contains microglia, plasmacytoid dendritic cells (pDCs) and two conventional dendritic cells (cDCs), ccl35+ cDCs and cnn3a+cDCs. However, how these distinct myeloid cells are established in the adult zebrafish CNS remains incompletely defined.

Background: The addition of coronary artery calcium score (CACS) to prediction models has been verified to improve performance. Machine learning (ML) algorithms become important medical tools in an era of precision medicine, However, combined utility by CACS and ML algorithms in hypertensive patients to forecast obstructive coronary artery disease (CAD) on coronary computed tomography angiography (CCTA) is rare.
Methods: This retrospective study was composed of 1,273 individuals with hypertension and without a history of CAD, who underwent dual-source computed tomography evaluation.

This work explores the pivotal role of laser lift-off (LLO) as a vital production process in facilitating the integration of Micro-LEDs into display modules. We specifically investigate the LLO process applied to high-performance gallium nitride (GaN)-based green Micro-LED arrays, featuring a pixel size of 20 × 38 μm on a patterned sapphire substrate (PSS). Scanning electron microscopy (SEM) observations demonstrate the preservation of the GaN film and sapphire substrate, with no discernible damage.

Background: Platinum-drugs based chemotherapy in clinic increases the potency of tumor cells to produce M2 macrophages, thus leading to poor anti-metastatic activity and immunosuppression. Lysosome metabolism is critical for cancer cell migration and invasion, but how it promotes antitumor immunity in tumours and macrophages is poorly understood and the underlying mechanisms are elusive. The present study aimed to explore a synergistic strategy to dismantle the immunosuppressive microenvironment of tumours and metallodrugs discovery by using the herent metabolic plasticity.

N6-methyladenosine (m6A) is one of the most common and well-known internal RNA modifications that occur on mRNAs or ncRNAs. It affects various aspects of RNA metabolism, including splicing, stability, translocation, and translation. An abundance of evidence demonstrates that m6A plays a crucial role in various pathological and biological processes, especially in tumorigenesis and tumor progression.

Emerging infectious diseases have accompanied the development of human society while causing great harm to humans, and SARS-CoV-2 was only one in the long list of microbial threats. Many viruses have existed in their natural reservoirs for a very long time, and the spillover of viruses from natural hosts to humans via interspecies transmission serves as the main source of emerging infectious diseases. Widely existing viruses capable of utilizing human receptors to infect human cells in animals signal the possible outbreak of another viral infection in the near future.

RAS mutations are among the most prevalent oncogenic drivers in cancers. RAS proteins propagate signals only when associated with cellular membranes as a consequence of lipid modifications that impact their trafficking. Here, we discovered that RAB27B, a RAB family small GTPase, controlled NRAS palmitoylation and trafficking to the plasma membrane, a localization required for activation.

Many approaches have been employed to relieve hypoxia in solid tumors to enhance sensitivity to radiotherapy (RT), including O delivery or hydrogen peroxide (HO) decomposition strategies. To date, however, these modalities have been restricted by poor O loading, rapid O leakage, and limited endogenous HO levels. To overcome these limitations, we therefore sought to develop an effective approach for the oxygen-independent treatment of hypoxic tumors.

Anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) tear leads to post-traumatic osteoarthritis (PTOA), a significant clinical burden worldwide that currently has no cure. Recent studies suggest a role of subchondral bone adaptations in the development of PTOA. Particularly, microstructural changes in the rod-and-plate microstructure of subchondral bone may precede and contribute to OA progression.

Platinum-based antitumor drugs have been used in many types of tumors due to its broad antitumor spectrum in clinic. Encouraged by the cisplatin's (CDDP) worldwide success in cancer chemotherapy, the research in platinum-based antitumor drugs has evolved from traditional platinum drug to multi-ligand and multifunctional platinum prodrugs over half a century. With the rapid development of metal drugs and the anticancer immune response, challenges and opportunities in platinum drug research have been shifted from traditional platinum-based drugs to platinum-based hybrids and the direction of development is tending toward photodynamic therapy, nano-delivery therapy, drug combination, targeted therapy, diagnostic therapy, immune-combination therapy and tumor stem cell therapy.

Pirfenidone (PFD), a synthetic arsenic compound, has been found to inhibit angiogenesis at high concentrations. However, the biphasic effects of different PFD concentrations on angiogenesis have not yet been elucidated, and the present study used an model to explore the mechanisms underlying this biphasic response. The effect of PFD on the initial angiogenesis of vascular endothelial cells was investigated through a Matrigel tube formation assay, and the impact of PFD on endothelial cell migration was evaluated through scratch and transwell migration experiments.

Objective: This paper proposes a new photoacoustic computed tomography (PACT) imaging system employing dual ultrasonic transducers with different frequencies. When imaging complex biological tissues, photoacoustic (PA) signals with multiple frequencies are produced simultaneously; however, due to the limited bandwidth of a single-frequency transducer, the received PA signals with specific frequencies may be missing, leading to a low imaging quality.
Methods: In contrast to our previous work, the proposed system has a compact volume as well as specific selection of the detection center frequency of the transducer, which can provide a comprehensive range for the detection of PA signals.

Triggering receptor expressed on myeloid cells 2 (TREM-2) is a modulator of pattern recognition receptors on innate immune cells that regulates the inflammatory response. However, the role of TREM-2 in in vivo models of infection and inflammation remains controversial. Here, we demonstrated that TREM-2 expression on CD4+ T cells was induced by Mycobacterium tuberculosis infection in both humans and mice and positively associated with T cell activation and an effector memory phenotype.
