Article Synopsis
  • The study reviewed systematic reviews (SRs) on repetitive transcranial magnetic stimulation (rTMS) for Parkinson’s disease (PD) to clarify the evidence quality.
  • Only 12.5% of the 16 SRs were rated as high quality, with many suffering from low or very low quality ratings according to rigorous evaluation tools.
  • While rTMS was found to potentially improve motor symptoms in PD, its efficacy for non-motor symptoms remains unclear, indicating a need for future studies to enhance methodological standards and treatment comparisons.

Background: Lactylation plays an essential role in pancreatic cancer, but the precise role of lactylated histone in the diagnosis and prognosis of pancreatic cancer remains to be further clarified.

Methods: Twenty-one patients diagnosed with pancreatic cancer were enrolled in this study, and the clinicopathologic characteristics were collected. Lactylation levels of total proteins and histone H3 Lysine-18 (H3K18) of tissues were determined by western blotting and laboratory indicators including serum levels of lactate, Cancer Antigen 19-9 (CA19-9), and Carcinoembryogenic Antigen (CEA) were obtained.

Article Synopsis
  • This study investigates the link between genetic variations (SNPs) in the Endothelin type A receptor (EDNRA) and the risk of large artery atherosclerotic stroke (LAA) among Han Chinese patients.
  • Researchers analyzed data from 428 LAA patients and 434 matched control subjects, focusing on 16 SNPs in EDNRA alongside mRNA/protein levels and inflammatory factors.
  • Findings revealed that the rs5343 TT genotype of EDNRA significantly elevates LAA risk and is associated with increased levels of the inflammatory marker NLRP3 and specific cytokines, suggesting an inflammatory mechanism in this association.

Introduction: Impulse oscillometry (IOS) is an effortless test compared to spirometry. Numerous studies explored the role of IOS in spirometry-based chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), but most of them had limited sample sizes with poor statistical power. This systematic review and meta-analysis aimed to pool the individual data and quantitatively analyze the clinical value of IOS in COPD.

Objective: To assess the impact of the IFIT3/TBK1 signalling pathway in activating plasmacytoid dendritic cells (pDCs) and its role in the development of SSc.

Methods: Utilized single-cell RNA sequencing (scRNA-seq) and high-throughput transcriptome RNA sequencing to reveal the differential abundance of pDCs and the role of the key gene IFIT3 in SSc. Conducted in vitro cell experiments to evaluate the effect of IFIT3/TBK1 signalling pathway intervention on pDC activation cytokine release and fibroblast function.

Background: Low-dose computed tomography (LDCT) is a diagnostic imaging technique designed to minimize radiation exposure to the patient. However, this reduction in radiation may compromise computed tomography (CT) image quality, adversely impacting clinical diagnoses. Various advanced LDCT methods have emerged to mitigate this challenge, relying on well-matched LDCT and normal-dose CT (NDCT) image pairs for training.

Background: Proton pump inhibitors (PPIs) are used to prevent gastrointestinal hemorrhage in patients with coronary treatment undergoing dual antiplatelet therapy (DAPT).

Methods: A systematic review was performed to compare the outcomes between DAPT and DAPT + PPI in acute coronary syndrome (ACS) patients or patients who took percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) with coronary stent implantation (PCI patients), and to estimate, for the first time, the sample size needed for reliable results via trial sequential analysis (TSA). The PubMed, EMBASE, the Cochrane Library and Web of Science databases were searched for articles authored from the onset until November 1, 2022, for randomized controlled trials (RCTs) comparing outcomes in ACS or PCI patients who undertook DAPT or DAPT + PPI.

Mullerian adenosarcoma of the uterus with MASO: a case report of cervical adenosarcoma in a young female that never had sexual behavior.

BMC Womens Health

May 2024

Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology, The Second Affiliated Hospital of Zunyi Medical University, The intersection of Xinlong Avenue and Xinpu Avenue, Honghuagang District, Zunyi, Guizhou Province, 563000, China.

Background: Cervical mullerian adenosarcoma is a rare uterine sarcoma, especially in young women. Its pathological features are low-grade malignant tumors with bidirectional differentiation, and the degree of malignancy is similar to that of low-grade endometrial stromal sarcoma. This paper reports the case of a young asexual patient who has been closely followed up after tumor resection and has not had any recurrences.

Background: Proprotein convertase subtilisin/kexin type 9 (PCSK9) inhibitors have been shown to be effective and safe in patients with stable angina and previous myocardial infarction. However, evidence for initiating their use in patients hospitalized with acute coronary syndrome (ACS) is limited. This systematic review and meta-analysis was performed to provide more clinical evidence.

Human umbilical cord mesenchymal stem cells (hUCMSCs) exhibit potent self-renewal and multilineage differentiation characteristics. They have garnered substantial attention within the domain of regenerative medicine owing to their therapeutic potential, such as in tissue repair, regeneration, immunomodulation, anti-inflammation, angiogenesis, wound healing, neuroprotection, and neuroregeneration. The process of fate determination is initiated by multiple signaling molecules.

Background: Although the past decade has seen remarkable advances in treatment options for hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC), the dismal overall prognosis still envelops HCC patients. Several comparative trials have been conducted to study whether transarterial chemoembolization (TACE) could improve clinical outcomes in patients receiving sorafenib for advanced HCC; however, the findings have been inconsistent.

Aim: To study the potential synergies and safety of sorafenib plus TACE sorafenib alone for treating advanced HCC, by performing a systematic review and meta-analysis.

Inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) is one of the most common diseases in the digestive system related to aberrant inflammation. V-set and immunoglobulin domain-containing 4 (VSIG4), a type I transmembrane receptor exclusively expressed in a subset of tissue-resident macrophages, has been reported to exert anti-inflammatory activity in immune-related diseases, which has been not explored in IBD yet. This study aims to explore the role and the potential mechanism of VSIG4 in IBD.

Background: Pulmonary embolism (PE) typically presents with chest pain, tachypnea, hemoptysis, syncope, and increased markers of myocardial injury. On an electrocardiogram (ECG), sinus tachycardia, right bundle branch block (RBBB), S1Q3T3 pattern, and/or precordial T-wave inversion may be observed. Despite being one of the common causes of chest pain, a third-degree atrioventricular block (III° AVB) is rare in cases of PE, which can lead to difficulties in diagnosis or even overlooking this condition.
