January 2025

Affiliated Infectious Diseases Hospital of Zhengzhou University (Henan Infectious Diseases Hospital, The Sixth People's Hospital of Zhengzhou), Center for Translational Medicine, Zhengzhou, 45000, China.

Regeneration is the ability to accurately regrow missing body parts. The unparalleled regenerative capacity and incredible tissue plasticity of planarians, both resulting from the presence of abundant adult stem cells referred to as neoblasts, offer a unique opportunity to investigate the cellular and molecular principles underlying regeneration. Neoblasts are capable of self-renewal and differentiation into the desired cell types for correct replacement of lost parts after tissue damage.

CD7-targeted chimeric antigen receptor-T (CAR-T) cell therapy has shown great promise in the treatment of relapsed/refractory T-cell acute lymphoblastic leukemia (T-ALL). In this study, we reported a case of a 34-year-old male patient with T-ALL who finally developed multi-line drug resistance and refractoriness after multiple lines of high-intensity chemotherapy. After physician evaluation, this patient received allogeneic hematopoietic stem cell transplantation (allo-HSCT).

Type 2 diabetes: a sacrifice program handling energy surplus.

Life Metab

December 2024

Department of Endocrinology and Metabolism, Shanghai Sixth People's Hospital Affiliated to Shanghai Jiao Tong University School of Medicine, Shanghai Clinical Center for Diabetes, Shanghai Diabetes Institute, Shanghai Key Laboratory of Diabetes Mellitus, Shanghai 200233, China.

Type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) is closely associated with obesity, while interactions between the two diseases remain to be fully elucidated. To this point, we offer this perspective to introduce a set of new insights into the interpretation of T2DM spanning the etiology, pathogenesis, and treatment approaches. These include a definition of T2DM as an energy surplus-induced diabetes characterized by the gradual decline of β cell insulin secretion function, which ultimately aims to prevent the onset of severe obesity through mechanisms of weight loss.

Application of DynaCT biliary soft tissue reconstruction technology in diagnosis and treatment of hepatolithiasis.

World J Gastrointest Surg

January 2025

Department of Emergency Medicine, Biomedical Innovation Center, The Sixth Affiliated Hospital, Sun Yat-sen University, Guangzhou 510655, Guangdong Province, China.

Background: Hepatobiliary stone disease involves an intrahepatic bile duct stone that occurs above the confluence of the right and left hepatic ducts. One-step percutaneous transhepatic cholangioscopic lithotripsy (PTCSL) using the percutaneous transhepatic one-step biliary fistulation (PTOBF) technique enables the clearing of intrahepatic stones and the resolution of strictures. However, hepatolithiasis with associated strictures still has high residual and recurrence rates after one-step PTCSL.

Background: Long non-coding ribonucleic acids (lncRNAs) regulate messenger RNA (mRNA) expression and influence cancer development and progression. Cuproptosis, a newly discovered form of cell death, plays an important role in cancer. Nonetheless, additional research investigating the association between cuproptosis-related lncRNAs and prostate cancer (PCa) prognosis is required.

Background: Selpercatinib, a selective RET kinase inhibitor, is approved for treating various cancers with RET gene mutations such as RET-rearranged thyroid cancer and non-small cell lung cancer. The presence of process-related and degradation impurities in its active pharmaceutical ingredient (API) can significantly affect its safety and effectiveness. However, research on detecting these impurities is limited.

Background And Purpose: Total hip arthroplasty (THA) and total knee arthroplasty (TKA) are widely performed surgeries for end-stage joint disease, yet the influence of depression and anxiety on postoperative outcomes remains unclear. This study aims to consolidate current evidence on the relationship between preoperative depression and/or anxiety disorders and postoperative outcomes in adult patients undergoing primary THA or TKA. Given the potential for these psychiatric conditions to affect recovery, pain management, and overall satisfaction, the results of this study are crucial to inform targeted perioperative interventions and improve patient-centered care.

Objective: Type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) is a chronic metabolic disorder that significantly impairs muscle regeneration following injuries, contributing to numerous complications and reduced quality of life. There is an urgent need for therapeutic strategies that can enhance muscle regeneration and alleviate these pathological mechanisms. In this study, we evaluate the therapeutic efficacy of W-GA nanodots, which are composed of gallic acid (GA) and tungstate (W6+), on muscle regeneration in type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2D)-induced muscle injury, with a focus on their anti-inflammatory and antioxidative effects.

The Sixth Affiliated Hospital, Guangzhou Municipal and Guangdong Provincial Key Laboratory of Molecular Target and Clinical Pharmacology, the NMPA and State Key Laboratory of Respiratory Disease, School of Pharmaceutical Sciences, Guangzhou Medical University, The Fifth Affiliated Hospital, Guangzhou, China.

Myocardial infarction (MI) is a leading cause of morbidity and mortality worldwide, and mitigating oxidative stress is crucial in managing MI. Nuclear factor erythroid 2-related factor 2 (Nrf2) plays a critical role in combating oxidative stress and facilitating cardiac remodeling post-MI. Here, we engineered Cerium oxide (CeO) nanoparticle-guided assemblies of ceria/Nrf2 nanocomposites to deliver Nrf2 plasmids.

Background: Rapid and accurate identification of causative organisms and prompt initiation of pathogen-targeted antibiotics are crucial for managing atypical pneumonia. The widespread application of targeted next-generation sequencing (t-NGS) in clinical practice demonstrates significant targeted advantages in rapid and accurate aetiological identification and antimicrobial resistance genes detection, particularly for difficult-to-culture, rare, or unexpected pathogens. An alarming surge of acquired macrolide resistance (MR) in (MP) presents a substantial challenge for the clinical selection of pathogen-targeted antibiotics worldwide, especially for fluoroquinolone-restricted pediatric patients with limited options available.
