Background And Aims: Mucosal healing is regarded as a clinical endpoint of Crohn's disease (CD), and transmural healing is correlated to the concept of deep remission. Current therapies to induce mucosal and transmural healing in CD are not satisfactory. Exclusive enteral nutrition (EEN) is underestimated therapy and its value has not been fully evaluated.

Objective: To assess significant liver fibrosis by multiparametric ultrasomics data using machine learning.

Materials And Methods: This prospective study consisted of 144 patients with chronic hepatitis B. Ultrasomics-high-throughput quantitative data from ultrasound imaging of liver fibrosis-were generated using conventional radiomics, original radiofrequency (ORF) and contrast-enhanced micro-flow (CEMF) features.

Background/aims: Three extensively investigated polymorphisms (rs3810936, rs7848647, and rs6478108) in tumor necrosis factor super family member 15 (TNFSF15) gene have been implicated in risk for inflammatory bowel disease (IBD). We performed a quantitative synthesis of the evidence to clarify these associations of TNFSF15 polymorphisms with IBD.

Materials And Methods: Data were extracted from PubMed and EMBASE, up to March 15, 2018.

The function of metformin in colorectal cancer (CRC) patients with diabetes mellitus (DM) remains a controversial topic because studies are increasingly focusing on epidemiologic features. We examined Notch1/Hes1 signaling in CRC with DM (DM-CRC) and investigated alterations in signaling caused by metformin treatment. For this purpose, information on pathological characteristics was collected from each patient.

To assess influencing factors for quantitative analysis of contrast-enhanced ultrasound (CEUS) in Crohn's disease (CD), dynamic CEUS examinations from 77 consecutive CD patients were recorded. Peak intensity (PI) values were calculated using the pre-installed quantification software of the ultrasound scanner. The influence of depth, pressure from the ultrasound probe and intraluminal gas was analyzed.

Background: To retrospectively evaluate postoperative genital function, local recurrence rate and survival rate after total mesorectal excision (TME) combined with or without pelvic autonomic nerve preservation (PANP) in male patients with rectal cancer.

Methods: A total of 953 male patients with rectal cancer after TME (518 patients received TME combined with PANP [PANP group] and 434patients received TME alone [TME group]) were included. Assessments of postoperative genital function, local recurrence rate, and 5 year survival rate were collected.

Purpose: To evaluate retrospectively the postoperative genital function, the local recurrence, and the survival rate impacted by laparoscopic or open surgery for rectal cancer (RC) in male patients.

Methods: A total of 398 male RC patients after laparoscopic or open total mesorectal excision (TME) of rectomy (205 patients in the TME with laparoscopy group, and 193 patients in the control group) were included in our study, between October 1997 and December 2013. Postoperative genital function, local recurrence, and the 5-year survival rate were analyzed, retrospectively.

Background: Colorectal liver metastases (CLM) occur frequently and postoperative intestinal infection is a common complication. Our previous study showed that probiotics could decrease the rate of infectious complications after colectomy for colorectal cancer. To determine the effects of the perioperative administration of probiotics on serum zonulin levels which is a marker of intestinal permeability and the subsequent impact on postoperative infectious complications in patients with CLM.

The impact of complete and incomplete colonic obstruction on the short- and long-term outcomes of malignant colorectal cancer has not yet been elucidated. The aim of this study was to investigate whether there was a difference in the impacts of the 2 types of obstruction on the short- and long-term outcomes of colorectal resection. This study included 224 colorectal cancer patients (162 patients with incomplete obstruction and 62 with complete obstruction) with left-sided malignant colonic obstruction who underwent surgical therapy between February 2007 and September 2012.

Background: Previous studies indicated that the micro integral membrane protein located within the media place of the integral membrane protein of Lactobacillus plantarum CGMCC 1258 had protective effects against the intestinal epithelial injury. In our study, we mean to establish micro integral membrane protein -knockout Lactobacillus plantarum (LPKM) to investigate the change of its protective effects and verify the role of micro integral membrane protein on protection of normal intestinal barrier function.

Methods: Binding assay and intestinal permeability were performed to verify the protective effects of micro integral membrane protein on intestinal permeability in vitro and in vivo.

Left-sided malignant colonic obstruction is one of the most difficult clinical problems; however, no studies compared the two most common used surgical approach laparoscopic and open colorectomy till now. The purpose of this study was to investigate the short- and long-term outcomes of laparoscopy and open colorectomy for left-sided malignant colonic obstruction. A total of 193 colorectal carcinoma patients (55 patients who underwent laparoscopic colorectomy and 138 who underwent open colorectomy) with left-sided colonic obstruction and surgical therapy, between May 2007 and March 2012, are included in the study.
