Introduction: Prophylactic antitubercular therapy (ATT) is widely prescribed in patients with Crohn's disease (CD) receiving antitumor necrosis factor (anti-TNF) treatment. However, antitubercular agents have been demonstrated to possess profibrotic effects. We aimed to evaluate whether ATT accelerated disease progression in patients with CD receiving anti-TNF treatment.

Objective: This study aimed to develop an artificial intelligence model for predicting the pathological complete response (pCR) to neoadjuvant chemoradiotherapy (nCRT) of locally advanced rectal cancer (LARC) using digital pathological images.
Background: nCRT followed by total mesorectal excision (TME) is a standard treatment strategy for patients with LARC. Predicting the PCR to nCRT of LARC remine difficulty.

The human gastrointestinal tract harbours an abundance of viruses, collectively known as the gut virome. The gut virome is highly heterogeneous across populations and is linked to geography, ethnicity, diet, lifestyle, and urbanisation. The currently known function of the gut virome varies greatly across human populations, and much remains unknown.

Background: Recent interest in laparoscopic right colectomy with D3 lymphadenectomy for right colon cancer, has raised renewed attention to the anatomic variations of the gastrocolic trunk of Henlé (GTH). Understanding the vascular structure of the GTH region for individual patients should improve surgical outcomes. The goal of this nationwide multicenter study (Anatomical Classification of Henlé's Trunk in Laparoscopic Right Hemi-colectomy (HeLaRC) trial) was to study the anatomic patterns of the GTH region, to clarify the implications of GTH in laparoscopic right colectomy with D3 lymphadenectomy (D3-RC) and analyze their clinical significance.

Background: The impact of the preoperative carbohydrate antigen 125 (CA125) level on the survival of metastatic colorectal cancer (CRC) patients undergoing primary tumor resection (PTR) remains uncertain. The aim of this study was to assess the prognostic value in overall survival (OS) and cancer-specific survival (CSS) between patients with and without an elevated preoperative CA125 level.
Methods: All metastatic CRC patients receiving PTR between 2007 and 2017 at the Sixth Affiliated Hospital of Sun Yat-sen University (Guangzhou, China) were retrospectively included.

Background: Treatments for cT1-2, N0 glottic squamous cell carcinoma (GLSCC) include endoscopic resection, open surgery, and radiotherapy. The purpose of this study was to compare the outcomes of three treatment modalities and provide reference data for treatment selection.
Methods: In all, 4274 patients with cT1-2, N0 GLSCC underwent these three treatment modalities from 2004 to 2015 were identified from the Surveillance, Epidemiology, and End Results-18 database.

Background: The study aimed to find a potential long non-coding RNA (lncRNA) model related to survival in bladder cancer by analyzing data in The Cancer Genome Atlas (TCGA).
Methods: We downloaded the gene expression data from the TCGA and analyzed the differentially expressed lncRNAs (DELs) between tumor and normal tissues. Patients were divided into training and testing groups, and a prognostic risk score model with lncRNAs was constructed by using data in the training group using multivariate Cox and lasso regression analysis.

Purpose: DNA methylation heterogeneity is a type of tumor heterogeneity in the tumor microenvironment, but studies on the identification of the molecular heterogeneity of the lung adenocarcinoma genome with respect to DNA methylation sites and their roles in lung cancer progression and prognosis are scarce.
Methods: Prognosis-associated DNA methylation subtypes were filtered by the Cox proportional hazards model and then established by unsupervised cluster analysis. Association analysis of these subtypes with clinical features and functional analysis of annotated genes potentially affected by methylation sites were performed.

Cancer stem cells (CSCs) are considered as a small population of cells with stem-like properties within the tumor bulk, and are largely responsible for tumor recurrence, metastasis, and therapy resistance. CSCs share critical features with embryonic stem cells (ESCs). The pluripotent transcription factors (TFs) and developmental signaling pathways of ESCs are invariably hijacked by CSCs termed 'oncofetal drivers' in many cancers, which are rarely detectable in adult tissues.

Background: Ultrasonography-an imaging technique that can show the anatomical section of nerves and surrounding tissues-is one of the most effective imaging methods to diagnose nerve diseases. However, segmenting the median nerve in two-dimensional (2D) ultrasound images is challenging due to the tiny and inconspicuous size of the nerve, the low contrast of images, and imaging noise. This study aimed to apply deep learning approaches to improve the accuracy of automatic segmentation of the median nerve in ultrasound images.

Background: Multiple mechanisms have been proposed that lead to reduced effectiveness of trastuzumab in HER2-positive gastric cancer (GC), yet resistance to trastuzumab remains a challenge in clinics.
Methods: We established trastuzumab-resistant cells and patient-derived xenografts models to measure metabolic levels and vascular density and shape. The HER2-positive GC patient samples were used to determine clinical significance.

The majority of chitosan-based bone tissue engineering (BTE) scaffolds have the problem of poor mechanical properties. However, modifying chitosan with conventional silane coupling agents to improve the mechanical properties of scaffolds will introduce additional complications, including cytotoxicity and poor biocompatibility. In this study, two types of organic−inorganic composite scaffolds (F-A-T0/T3/T5 and F-B-T5-P0/P0.

Chemoresistance limits treatment outcomes in colorectal cancer (CRC) patients. A dimeric metabolite of indole-3-carbinol, 3,3'-diindolylmethane (DIM) is abundant in cruciferous vegetables and has shown anticancer efficacy. The role of DIM in regulating chemosensitivity in CRC remains unknown.

One of the main clinical treatments for advanced nasopharyngeal carcinoma is chemotherapy, but systemic administration can cause serious adverse reactions. New type of nanomaterial which can actively targeting, imaging, and treating nasopharyngeal carcinoma at the same time to enhance the effect of chemotherapy, meanwhile monitoring the intracellular drug release process at the level of single cancer cell was urgently needed. GE11, an EGFR antagonist peptide, was used to target nasopharyngeal carcinoma which has positive expression of EGFR on its nucleus.

Background: Circular RNAs (circRNAs) are forms of non-coding RNAs that have crucial roles in regulation of various biological processes of several malignant tumors. circKIF4A is closely associated with malignant progression of a variety of cancers. However, the molecular mechanisms as well as roles of circKIF4A in osteosarcoma (OS) have not yet been clearly elucidated.

Background: Recent studies indicate that non-coding circular RNAs (circRNAs) are involved in the development of esophageal carcinoma (EC). This study aimed to identify differential expression of circRNAs in EC, which can provide potential biomarkers and therapeutic targets for EC treatment and improve the understanding of tumorigenesis mechanism.
Methods: First, samples (n=5) of EC tissues and adjacent normal tissue were sent for circRNA microarray detection, Second, further bioinformatic analysis was performed, including circRNA-microRNA (miRNA), co-expression network analysis, Spearman correlation test, and cancer-related circRNA-miRNA axis analysis.

Background: Neuropathic pain (NP) is a frequent finding in patients diagnosed with spinal cord injuries (SCIs). To improve our understanding of the maladaptive changes taking place in the lumbar spinal cord that can lead to the development of NP and to find alternative options to treat this condition, we aimed to investigate the effects of voluntary exercise on NP after SCI and to elucidate its potential mechanisms.
Methods: A rat model of post-SCI NP induced by compression of the posterior or lateral cervical spinal cord was used to evaluate the effects of voluntary exercise by measuring the bilateral withdrawal of the hind paws using the Von Frey filament and Hargreaves tests.
