A pregnant woman was revealed to have an unusual position of the fetal hand by a routine 12-week ultrasound. Bilateral adducted thumbs and a male phenotype were confirmed by another ultrasound at 14 weeks' gestation. A structural survey at 18 weeks revealed fetal hydrocephalus with severe bilateral ventriculomegaly.

Inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) patients are particularly vulnerable to infection with Clostridium difficile infection (CDI).Available treatments of IBD with CDI have not effective. Butyrate, the metabolites of microbiota, plays a vital role in maintaining immune homeostasis and potential drugs for treatment of IBD with CDI.

Introduction: Treacher Collins syndrome (TCS), also known as mandibulofacial dysostosis, is an inherited craniofacial defect. Here, we report a TCS family in which the members carry the same variant but present with phenotypic variability.
Case Presentation: A 19-year-old healthy primigravida was revealed by ultrasound at 12 weeks of gestation to have a fetus with micrognathia.

Unlabelled: The objective of this study was to evaluate and compare the psychometric properties of the EQ-5D-Y-3L, EQ-5D-Y-5L, CHU-9D, and PedsQL, in a sample of children and adolescents with osteogenesis imperfecta (OI). A web-based cross-sectional survey was conducted among Chinese children and adolescents with OI in 2021. The EQ-5D-Y-3L, EQ-5D-Y-5L, CHU-9D, and PedsQL were used to assess the health-related quality of life for the participants.

Background: Skin tissue is vital in protecting the body from injuries and bacterial infections. Wound infection caused by bacterial colonization is one of the main factors hindering wound healing. Wound infection caused by colonization of a large number of bacteria can cause the wound to enter a continuous stage of inflammation, which delays wound healing.

Purpose: This study aimed to investigate the regulation of heme oxygenase-1 (HO-1) by paired box gene 6 (Pax6) and their roles in hydrogen peroxide (HO)-induced oxidative stress and apoptosis in lens epithelial cells (LECs) (SRA01/04, HLE-B3).
Methods: Lens anterior capsule membranes of mice of different ages were obtained to compare differences in the expression of Pax6 and HO-1 using Western blotting. Pax6-overexpressing plasmid and small interfering RNA were designed to overexpress and silence Pax6, respectively.

Type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) has been confirmed to be closely associated with breast cancer (BC). However, the shared mechanisms between these diseases remain unclear. By comparing different datasets, we identified shared differentially expressed (DE) RNAs in T2DM and BC, including 427 mRNAs and 6 miRNAs from the GEO(Gene Expression Omnibus) database.

Purpose: This study was performed to introduce a modified procedure involving a combination of bilateral vocal fold mucosal flaps and microsurgical sutures for the management of anterior glottic webs and to study its efficacy in decreasing the recurrence rate and improving voice quality.
Methods: We retrospectively reviewed 102 patients with anterior glottic webs who underwent surgical treatment by a carbon dioxide laser incision with or without microsurgical suturing in our hospital from May 2014 to April 2021. We focused on the reoperation rate and the voice outcomes based on the 30-item Voice Handicap Index.

Background And Aims: The human gut is home to a largely underexplored microbiome component, the archaeome. Little is known of the impact of geography, urbanization, ethnicity, and diet on the gut archaeome in association with host health. We aim to delineate the variation of the human gut archaeome in healthy individuals and its association with environmental factors and host homeostasis.

Background: Data on severe and extensive burns in China are limited, as is data on the prevalence of a range of related gastrointestinal (GI) disorders [such as stress ulcers, delayed defecation, opioid-related bowel immotility, and abdominal compartment syndrome (ACS)]. We present a multicentre analysis of coincident GI dysfunction and its effect on burn-related mortality.
Methods: This retrospective analysis was conducted on patients with severe [≥ 20% total burn surface area (TBSA)] and extensive (> 50% TBSA or > 25% full-thickness TBSA) burns admitted to three university teaching institutions in China between January 1, 2011 and December 31, 2020.

Background: Distinguishing Crohn's disease (CD) and intestinal Behçet's disease (BD) is difficult in clinical practice.
Aim: To evaluate the ability of CT enterography (CTE) to enhance the diagnostic value of endoscopy in differentiating CD from intestinal BD and to establish differential diagnosis models.
Methods: A total of 113 patients with CD and 70 patients with intestinal BD from seven tertiary inflammatory bowel disease centers were enrolled.

Background: One of the most common nasal external sites in extranodal Natural Killer/T-cell lymphoma (NKTCL) is in the gastrointestinal (GI) system. Despite this, reports on gastrointestinal-Natural Killer/T-cell lymphoma (GI-NKTCL) are very few. To obtain a better understanding of this manifestation of NKTCL, we conducted a retrospective study on GI-NKTCL to analyze its clinical features, genomic changes and immune infiltration.

Prior studies reported inconsistent results on the altered gut microbial composition in patients with Crohn's disease (CD), likely under the influences of many confounding factors including genetic, life style and environmental variations among different study cohorts. This study aims to examine the gut microbiota of CD patients with particular efforts to minimize the impact of the confounding factors. For this purpose, the healthy relatives of the patients were enrolled as control subjects so that the paired study subjects may have similar genetic background, dietary habits, and household environment.

The combined use of transcriptome and translatome as indicators of gene expression profiles is usually more accurate than the use of transcriptomes alone, especially in cell types governed by translational regulation, such as mammalian oocytes. Here, we developed a dual-omics methodology that includes both transcriptome and translatome sequencing (T&T-seq) of single-cell oocyte samples, and we used it to characterize the transcriptomes and translatomes during mouse and human oocyte maturation. T&T-seq analysis revealed distinct translational expression patterns between mouse and human oocytes and delineated a sequential gene expression regulation from the cytoplasm to the nucleus during human oocyte maturation.

Background and aims: Factors associated with abnormally elevated alpha-fetoprotein (AFP) in hepatitis B virus (HBV)-infected patients remain to be studied. We aimed to identify factors associated with elevated serum AFP in patients with non-hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) and early-stage HCC and their influences on the performance of AFP for detecting early-stage HCC. Methods: This multicenter, retrospective study was conducted in 4401 patients with chronic HBV infection, including 3680 patients with non-HCC and 721 patients with early-stage HCC.

Hepatoid adenocarcinoma of the stomach (HAS) is a rare malignancy with aggressive biological behavior. This study aimed to compare the genetic landscape of HAS with liver hepatocellular carcinoma (LIHC), gastric cancer (GC), and AFP-producing GC (AFPGC) and identify clinically actionable alterations. Thirty-eight cases of HAS were collected for whole-exome sequencing.

Karyopherin α (KPNA) proteins are involved in nucleocytoplasmic trafficking and are critical for protein subcellular localization. Recent studies have suggested that KPNA proteins are abnormally expressed in various solid tumors. The objective of this study was to investigate the expression of KPNA1 and KPNA2 in cervical cancer tissue with different histologic grades and cell lines, as well as the effects of the KPNA1 expression level on Hela cell proliferation.
