Designing oral drug delivery systems using intestinal glucose transporters (IGTs) may be one of the strategies for improving oral bioavailability of drugs. However, little is known about the biological factors affecting the drug transport capacity of IGTs. Gastrodin is a sedative drug with a structure very similar to glucose.

Magnetosomes, synthesized by magnetotactic bacteria (MTB), have been used in nano- and biotechnological applications, owing to their unique properties such as superparamagnetism, uniform size distribution, excellent bioavailability, and easily modifiable functional groups. In this review, we first discuss the mechanisms of magnetosome formation and describe various modification methods. Subsequently, we focus on presenting the biomedical advancements of bacterial magnetosomes in biomedical imaging, drug delivery, anticancer therapy, biosensor.

This study compared the safety, bioequivalence, and pharmacokinetic properties of 2 formulations of 10-mg rivaroxaban tablets in healthy Chinese participants in fasting and fed arms. The trial was an open, randomized, 4-period, replicated crossover scheme, and 36 volunteers were recruited separately for the fasting and fed arms. Volunteers were randomly administered a single dose of the test or reference formulation (10 mg) orally, followed by a 5-day washout period.

Atherosclerosis is a major cause of death and disability in cardiovascular disease. Atherosclerosis associated with lipid accumulation and chronic inflammation leads to plaques formation in arterial walls and luminal stenosis in carotid arteries. Current approaches such as surgery or treatment with statins encounter big challenges in curing atherosclerosis plaque.

Objectives: The study aims to investigate the safety and feasibility of retrograde CTO intervention via collateral connection grade 0 (CC-0) septal channel and to identify predictors of collateral tracking failure.
Background: Guidewire crossing a collateral channel is a critical step for successful retrograde percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) of chronic total occlusion (CTO).
Methods: Retrograde PCI was attempted in 122 cases of CTO with CC-0 septal collaterals from December 2018 to May 2021.

Objective: For patients with diabetes, high-frequency and -amplitude glycemic variability may be more harmful than continuous hyperglycemia; however, there is still a lack of screening indicators that can quickly and easily assess the level of glycemic variability. The aim of this study was to investigate whether the glycemic dispersion index is effective for screening high glycemic variability.
Methods: A total of 170 diabetes patients hospitalized in the Sixth Affiliated Hospital of Kunming Medical University were included in this study.

Background: Low temperature is conducive to the survival of COVID-19. Some studies suggest that cold-chain environment may prolong the survival of severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) and increase the risk of transmission. However, the effect of cold-chain environmental factors and packaging materials on SARS-CoV-2 stability remains unclear.

Background: The mechanism involved in prostate cancer (PCa) metastasis is still poorly understood, and several oncogenes are known to regulate this process. However, the role of spalt-like transcription factor 4 (SALL4) in PCa metastasis remains unclear.
Methods: We performed RNA-sequencing to compare the mRNA expression profiles of seven localized PCa tissues and six metastatic PCa tissues.

Circular RNAs (ciRNAs) are emerging as new players in the regulation of gene expression. However, how ciRNAs are involved in neuropathic pain is poorly understood. Here, we identify the nervous-tissue-specific ciRNA-Fmn1 and report that changes in ciRNA-Fmn1 expression in spinal cord dorsal horn neurons play a key role in neuropathic pain after nerve injury.

Epstein-Barr virus (EBV) infects host cells and establishes a latent infection that requires evasion of host innate immunity. A variety of EBV-encoded proteins that manipulate the innate immune system have been reported, but whether other EBV proteins participate in this process is unclear. EBV-encoded envelope glycoprotein gp110 is a late protein involved in virus entry into target cells and enhancement of infectivity.

Background And Objective: The traditional statistical screening method for thalassemia based on red blood cell (RBC) indices is being replaced by machine learning. Here, we developed deep neural networks (DNNs) that outperformed the traditional method for predicting thalassemia.
Method: Using a dataset of 8693 records comprising genetic tests and other 11 features we constructed 11 DNN models and 4 traditional statistical models and then compared their performances and analysed feature importance for interpreting DNN models.

The immune system of vertebrates includes innate immunity and adaptive immunity, and the network between them enables the host to fight against invasions of various pathogens. Recently, studies discovered that immune memory is one of the features of innate immunity, breaking the previous opinion that immune memory exists only in adaptive immunity. Immune memory supports innate immune cells to respond efficiently upon reinfection or restimulation.

ZBTB7A, a transcription factor containing a tandem array of four Cys2-His2 zinc fingers (ZFs), is vital for multiple physiological events through directional binding to different genomic loci. Our previously determined crystal structure of ZBTB7A in complex with a GCCCCTTCCCC sequence revealed that all four ZFs (ZF1-4) are involved in binding to γ-globin -200 gene element to repress fetal haemoglobin expression. Recently, it has been reported that ZBTB7A drives primed-to-naïve transition (PNT) of pluripotent stem cells through binding to a 12-bp consensus sequence ([AAGGACCCAGAT], referred to as PNT-associated sequence).

Background: Prostate cancer (PCA) is a common malignant genitourinary tumor that significantly impacts patient survival. Cuproptosis, a copper-dependent programmed cell death mechanism, plays a vital role in tumor development, therapy resistance, and immune microenvironment regulation in PCA. However, research on cuproptosis in prostate cancer is still in its early stages.

Hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC), the most common type of primary liver cancer, remains a global health challenge requiring novel and effective therapeutic agents and approaches. Here, we found that a natural product plumbagin can inhibit the growth of HCC cells by inducing the downregulation of GPX4, but not other antioxidant enzymes such as CAT, SOD1, and TXN. Functionally, genetic silence of GPX4 enhances, whereas the overexpression of GPX4 inhibits plumbagin-induced apoptosis (rather than ferroptosis) in HCC cells.
