Background: With the advancement of hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) treatment technology, the treatment options for HCC patients have increased. However, due to high heterogeneity, among other reasons, the five-year survival rate of patients is still very low. Currently, gene expression prognostic models can suggest more appropriate strategies for the treatment of HCC.

Institute of Burn Research, Southwest Hospital, State Key Lab of Trauma, Burn and Combined Injury, Chongqing Key Laboratory for Disease Proteomics, Army Medical University, 400038 Chongqing, China.

Reactive oxygen species (ROS) mediate multiple physiological functions; however, the over-accumulation of ROS causes premature aging and/or death and is associated with various inflammatory conditions. Nevertheless, there are limited clinical treatment options that are currently available. The good news is that owing to the considerable advances in nanoscience, multiple types of nanomaterials with unique ROS-scavenging abilities that influence the temporospatial dynamic behaviors of ROS in biological systems have been developed.

Background: Although many intratumoral biomarkers have been reported to predict clear cell renal cell carcinoma (ccRCC) patient prognosis, combining intratumoral and clinical indicators could predict ccRCC prognosis more accurately than any of these markers alone. This study mainly examined the prognostic value of HECT, C2 and WW domain-containing E3 ubiquitin protein ligase 1 (HECW1) expression in ccRCC patients in combination with established clinical indicators.

Methods: The expression level of HECW1 was screened out by data-independent acquisition mass spectrometry (DIA-MS) and analyzed in ccRCC patients from the The Cancer Genome Atlas (TCGA) database and our cohort.

The present study aimed to determine the effects and mechanism of ChaC glutathione specific γ-glutamylcyclotransferase 1 (CHAC1) on cell viability and the sensitivity of prostate cancer cells to docetaxel. Compared with non-tumor human prostate epithelial RWPE-1 cells, the mRNA and protein levels of CHAC1 significantly decreased in two prostate cancer cell lines, DU145 and 22RV1, as measured by quantitative polymerase chain reaction and western blot analysis (P<0.05).

Circular RNAs (circRNAs) have been involved in the regulation of various kinds of cardiovascular diseases, including acute myocardial infarction. This study was performed to investigate the molecular mechanism associated with circRNA nuclear factor IX (circ_NFIX) in carvedilol-mediated cardioprotection in H2O2-treated H9c2 cells. Flow cytometry was performed for the analysis of cell cycle and apoptosis.

Background: Postherpetic neuralgia (PHN) is common in elderly patients and can be alleviated by pulsed radiofrequency (PRF). However, PRF treatments display different efficacy on different nerves. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the efficacy and safety of ultrasound-guided PRF modulation on thoracic dorsal root ganglion (DRG) or intercostal nerve (ICN) for PHN in aged patients and to provide a theoretical basis for clinical treatment.

Background: More than 50% cognitive impairment was reported by cancer patients before and after medical treatment. However, there are no effective interventions to manage the cognitive problem in women with breast cancer. This pilot study was designed to evaluate the protective effect of Baduanjin exercise on cognitive function and cancer-related symptoms in women with early-stage breast cancer undergoing chemotherapy.

Background: Circulating tumor cells (CTCs) are the dominant factor leading to tumor metastasis. This study aims to investigate the effect of disparate sources of CTCs on the treatment and prognosis of patients with advanced tumors by analyzing the number and gene mutations change of CTCs in arterial and venous blood in patients with advanced tumors.

Results: A CTCs sorting system was constructed based on Vimentin-immunolipid magnetic balls (Vi-IMB) and EpCAM immunolipid magnetic balls (Ep-IMB).

R&D Department, Huaxia Bangfu Technology Incorporated, Beijing 100000, P.R. China.

The immune system is crucial in regulating colorectal cancer (CRC) tumorigenesis. Identification of immune-related transcriptomic signatures derived from the peripheral blood of patients with CRC would provide insights into CRC pathogenesis, and suggest novel clues to potential immunotherapy strategies for the disease. The present study collected blood samples from 59 patients with CRC and 62 healthy control patients and performed whole blood gene expression profiling using microarray hybridization.

Gallbladder cancer (GBC) is the most aggressive cancer type in the biliary tract, and our previous studies observed that microRNA (miR)‑135a‑5p expression was downregulated in GBC tissues. However, few studies have focused on the mechanism of action of the miR‑135a‑5p target genes in GBC. The present study aimed to investigate the regulatory role of miR‑135a‑5p signaling in GBC.

Cancer is one of the diseases that threatens human health and is a leading cause of mortality worldwide. High levels of reactive oxygen species (ROS) have been observed in cancer tissues compared with normal tissues in vivo, and it is not yet known how this influences chemotherapeutic drug action. Cationic porphyrin 5,10,15,20-tetra-(N-methyl-4-pyridyl) porphyrin (TMPyP4) is a photosensitizer used in photodynamic therapy (PDT) and a telomerase inhibitor used in the treatment of telomerase-positive cancer.

Myocardial fibrosis (MF) is one of the leading causes of end-stage heart disease. Many studies have confirmed that inflammation caused by aldosterone may play an important role in the process of MF. A selective 11β-hydroxysteroid dehydrogenase type 2 (11β-HSD2) enzyme inhibitor can reduce the inactivation of cortisol, allowing cortisol to compete for mineralocorticoid receptors.
