Traumatic penumbra (TP) is a secondary injury area located around the core area of traumatic brain injury after brain trauma, and is an important factor affecting the outcome of traumatic brain injury (TBI). The main pathological change caused by TP is brain edema, including (cellular brain edema and vascular brain edema). The formation and development of brain edema in the TP area are closely related to the blood-brain barrier (BBB) and vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF).

The functional role of lncRNAs as ceRNAs in both ovarian processes and associated diseases.

Noncoding RNA Res

March 2024

Department of Medical Imaging, Central Hospital Affiliated to Chongqing University of Technology, Gonglian yicun No.1 street lijiatuo, Banan district, Chongqing, 400054, PR China.

Long non-coding RNAs (lncRNAs) have attracted significant scientific attention due to their central role in regulating gene expression and their profound impact on the intricate mechanisms of ovarian function. These versatile molecules exert their influence through various mechanisms, including the coordination of transcription processes, modulation of post-transcriptional events, and the shaping of epigenetic landscapes. Furthermore, lncRNAs function as competitive endogenous RNAs (ceRNAs), engaging in intricate interactions with microRNAs (miRNAs) to finely adjust the expression of target genes.

Theaflavins are the characteristic polyphenols in black tea which can be enzymatically synthesized. In this review, the effects and molecular mechanisms of theaflavins on obesity and its comorbidities, including dyslipidemia, insulin resistance, hepatic steatosis, and atherosclerosis, were summarized. Theaflavins ameliorate obesity potentially via reducing food intake, inhibiting pancreatic lipase to reduce lipid absorption, activating the adenosine monophosphate-activated protein kinase (AMPK), and regulating the gut microbiota.

September 2023

Shuguang Hospital Affiliated to Shanghai University of Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM), Institute of Liver Diseases, Shanghai Academy of TCM, Key Laboratory of Liver and Kidney Disease of the Ministry of Education, Clinical Key Laboratory of TCM of Shanghai, Shanghai 201203, China.

To use metagenomic sequencing to compare the differences in intestinal microbiota species and metabolic pathways in patients with hepatitis B cirrhosis with or without ascites and further explore the correlation between the differential microbiota and clinical indicators and metabolic pathways. 20 hepatitis B cirrhosis cases [10 without ascites (HBLC-WOA), 10 with ascites (HBLC-WA), and 5 healthy controls (HC)] were selected from the previously studied 16S rRNA samples. Metagenome sequencing was performed on the intestinal microbiota samples.

Purpose: Ubiquitin-specific peptidase 10 (USP10) has been found to have oncogenic activity in several human tumors. This study first revealed the exact function of USP10 on the progression of thyroid cancer (THCA) by researching its effect on the ferroptosis.

Methods: USP10 expression in THCA patients was analyzed by online data analysis and in 75 THCA cases was scrutinized by real-time quantitative reverse transcription-polymerase chain reaction and Western blot.

December 2023

Department of Orthopedics, Chongqing Geriatric Clinical Research Center, The Second Affiliated Hospital of Chongqing Medical University, Chongqing, 400010, PR China. Electronic address:

Osteoarthritis (OA) is the most common type of joint disease, which is difficult to treat, but early standardized diagnosis and treatment can effectively alleviate the pain and symptoms of patients. Therefore, it is important to construct an effective tool to assist in the early diagnosis and evaluation of the therapeutic effect of OA. In this work, a near-infrared (NIR) fluorescence-activated fluorescent probe, YB-1, was constructed for the evaluation of the diagnostic and therapeutic efficacy of OA via detection and imaging of the biomarker of ONOO in inflammatory cells and mice osteoarthritis models.

This research aimed to investigate whether melatonin affected sensitivity to 5-fluorouracil (5-FU) in colorectal cancer (CRC) as well as to show the underlying molecular mechanism. Melatonin and 5-FU were added to CRC cells at varying doses. The effect of melatonin on sensitivity to 5-FU was investigated by measuring cell activity and apoptosis, and the potential underlying mechanism was further explored by detecting miR-532-3p expression and the associated pathway proteins.
