Biomed Res Int

December 2014

Huaxi MR Research Center (HMRRC), Department of Radiology, West China Hospital of Sichuan University, West China School of Medicine, Chengdu 610041, China.

The aim of this study was to explore white-matter disruption in social anxiety disorder (SAD) patients by using diffusion tensor imaging (DTI) and to investigate the relationship between cerebral abnormalities and the severity of the symptoms. Eighteen SAD patients and age- and gender-matched healthy controls were recruited. DTI scans were performed to measure fractional anisotropy (FA) and apparent diffusion coefficient (ADC) for each subject.

Cardiac microvascular endothelial cells (CMECs) dysfunction induced by hypoxia is an important pathophysiological event in myocardium ischemic injury, whereas, the underlying mechanism is not fully clarified. FoxO transcription factors regulate target genes involved in apoptosis and cellular reactive oxygen species (ROS) production. Therefore, the present study was designed to elucidate the potential role of FoxOs on the hypoxia-induced ROS formation and apoptosis in CMECs.

Panaxatriol saponin ameliorated liver injury by acetaminophen via restoring thioredoxin-1 and pro-caspase-12.

Liver Int

August 2014

Faculty of Environmental Science and Engineering, Kunming University of Science and Technology, Kunming, China; Department of Science and Education Section, the seventh People's Hospital of Hangzhou, Hangzhou, China.

Background & Aims: Acetaminophen (APAP) is widely used as an antipyretic agent which is safe at therapeutic doses. However, overdose of APAP induces fatal and non-fatal hepatic necroses. The chemical reactive metabolites of APAP initiate toxicity and inflammatory response within the liver and lead to acute liver failure.

Specific serotonin reuptake inhibitors prevent interferon-α-induced depression in patients with hepatitis C: a meta-analysis.

Clin Gastroenterol Hepatol

September 2014

State Key Laboratory for Diagnosis and Treatment of Infectious Diseases, The First Affiliated Hospital, College of Medicine, Zhejiang University, Hangzhou, Zhejiang, China. Electronic address:

Background & Aims: Interferon-α (IFN-α)-induced depression is a major complication to treatment of chronic hepatitis C virus (HCV) infection. Specific serotonin reuptake inhibitors (SSRIs) can be used to treat depression, but it is not clear whether they can prevent depression in patients receiving IFN therapy for chronic HCV infection.

Methods: We performed a meta-analysis by searching the Cochrane Library, PubMed, and EMBASE databases through 2013 for published results from randomized, placebo-controlled trials evaluating the utility of SSRIs in preventing IFN-induced depression in HCV patients.

Background: Children with Developmental Coordination Disorder (DCD) have multiple impairments in movement, in learning, and in the activities of daily living. Studies from other countries have associated these impairments with cognitive function, particularly executive functioning, but these findings have not been confirmed in China.

Aim: Compare the executive functioning of children with DCD with that of normal children.

Aims And Background: Estradiol exerts most of its effects by direct binding to the estrogen receptor in breast carcinoma, ERβ expression is a useful biomarker for breast cancer in a manner that is independent of ERa expression. However, studies evaluating ERβ expression with certain tumor variables, such as tumor grade and disease-free survival, had produced conflicting results. The Akt signaling pathway currently attracts considerable attention as a new target for effective therapeutic strategies.

Objective: To evaluate whether applying pitch values at different positions of the umbilical cord or the umbilical artery blood flow systolic/diastolic (S/D) ratio measured by color ultrasound could forecast excessive torsion of cord and help in selection of the appropriate mode of delivery.

Methods: This study included 184 pregnant women between 37 and 41 weeks of gestation and their neonates. We analyzed the umbilical cord's spiral distance, and the umbilical artery blood flow parameters at the cord's initial section, middle section and the section into the placenta.
