Colorectal cancer is a human malignancy ranked the third highest of the global incidence of malignant tumors. Rho GTPase-activating proteins (RHOGAPs) were identified functional in several processes of tumors. In the present study, through reverse transcription-quantitative PCR (RT-qPCR) and western blot analysis, expression of Rho GTPase-activating protein 24 (ARHGAP24) and p53 was measured in colorectal cancer tissues, which was lower than that in adjacent normal tissues, revealing that ARHGAP24 may be implicated in the progress of colorectal cancer and , overexpression of ARHGAP24 in LoVo and HCT116 cells inhibited the cell ability and enhanced cell apoptosis, and accompanied with high protein expression of p53, p21 and Bax.

The Systemic Inflammation Response Index (SIRI), based on peripheral lymphocyte, neutrophil, and monocyte counts, was recently investigated as a prognostic marker for several tumors. However, use of the SIRI has not been reported for nasopharyngeal carcinoma (NPC). We evaluated the prognostic value of the SIRI in primary and validation cohorts.

Objective: Recent studies have shown an association between migraine and restless legs syndrome (RLS), but RLS prevalence among individuals with migraine differs substantially across studies. The present work aimed to comprehensively assess available evidence to estimate RLS prevalence among individuals with migraine and non-migraine controls.
Method: Web of Science, PubMed, Embase, Chinese National Knowledge Infrastructure, Wanfang, and SinoMed databases were searched for observational and case-control studies of RLS prevalence among individuals with migraine.

Type 1 Diabetes (T1D) is an autoimmune disease resulting from insulin-secreting β-cells mediated by autoreactive T cells. We demonstrated increased level of sB7-H3 in T1D patients than in healthy control group. This result suggests that B7-H3 may be may be a promising biomarker associated with the pathogenesis of T1D.

Objectives: We carried out a randomized multicentre study in China to investigate whether the clofazimine would improve the efficacy of the standardized regimen in patients with multidrug-resistant tuberculosis (MDR-TB).
Methods: Patients with MDR-TB managed in 17 TB specialist hospitals in China between September 2009 and September 2011 were randomly assigned to the treatment groups at enrolment. In the intervention group, 100 mg clofazimine per day was added to the standardized regimen.

The risk of rupture, the most feared clinical consequence of abdominal aortic aneurysm, increases with the enlargement of aorta. MicroRNA-29b (miR-29b) has emerged as a key modulator of extracellular matrix (ECM) homeostasis and thereby is proposed to play a crucial role in vascular remodeling. However, agents that alter miR-29b expression are relatively inefficient in the aorta, likely due to inferior uptake.

Epithelial-mesenchymal transition (EMT) has been reported to be involved in adenomyosis by promoting cell invasion and fibrogenesis. But few studies have identified critical factors that regulate EMT process during adenomyosis. The eukaryotic translation initiation factor 3 subunit e (eIF3e) protein is a component of the multisubunit eIF3 complex essential for cap-dependent translation initiation.

Aim: Accumulating data showed that IL-27 polymorphisms are linked to the susceptibility of some autoimmune diseases. We assessed whether there was an association between two single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) of IL-27 gene and dilated cardiomyopathy (DCM).
Materials & Methods: Two SNPs (rs153109 and rs17855750) of IL-27 gene were genotyped by PCR-restriction fragment length polymorphism in 261 DCM patients and 303 unrelated healthy subjects in Chinese Han population.

Dexamethasone (Dex) is commonly used to treat glioma; however, the mechanism underlying the action of Dex remains unclear. In the present study, the hypothesis that aquaporin-1 (AQP1) may participate in tumor cell proliferation, apoptosis, migration and invasion was tested using small interfering RNA (siRNA). The results of the current study indicated that Dex could inhibit the proliferation, in addition to promoting the migration, of C6 cells.

Long non-coding RNAs (lncRNAs) are non-protein-coding transcripts shown to play important roles in tumourigenesis and tumour progression. Our study aimed to examine expression of the lncRNA MAGI2-AS3 in breast cancer and to explore its function in cancer cell growth. First, MAGI2-AS3 expression levels in clinical samples and cell lines were determined by quantitative reverse transcription-polymerase chain reaction (qRT-PCR).

Long noncoding RNA CCAL has been reported to promote tumor progression in various human cancers, including hepatocellular carcinoma, osteosarcoma, and colorectal cancer. However, the role of CCAL in papillary thyroid cancer remains largely unknown. In the present study, we found that the expression of CCAL was upregulated in papillary thyroid tumor tissues compared to adjacent normal tissues.

Background: Sheng-ji Hua-yu(SJHY) formula is one of the most useful Traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) in the treatment of the delayed diabetic wound. However, elucidating the related molecular biological mechanism of how the SJHY Formula affects excessive inflammation in the process of re-epithelialization of diabetic wound healing is a task urgently needed to be fulfilled. The objectives of this study is to evaluate the effect of antagonisic expression of pro-/anti-inflammatory factors on transforming growth factor-β(TGF-β) superfamily (activin and follistatin) in the process of re-epithelialization of diabetic wound healing in vivo, and to characterize the involvement of the activin/follistatin protein expression regulation, phospho-Smad (pSmad2), and Nuclear factor kappa B p50 (NF-kB) p50 in the diabetic wound healing effects of SJHY formula.

Dysregulated microRNA (miRNA) expression is involved in the occurrence and development of colorectal cancer (CRC) through the regulation of various important physiological events. Hence, miRNAs may be used as effective targets for CRC treatment; however, this hypothesis warrants further investigation. miRNA-511 (miR-511) plays vital roles in the progression of different tumor types.
