Objective: This study aimed to compare the changes in corneal morphological characteristics in corneal topography assessments performed after wearing orthokeratology (OK) lenses with different back optic zone diameters (BOZDs). These changes included the change ratios of the apical corneal power (ACP), the maximum relative corneal refractive power (mRCRP), and the treatment zone diameter (TZD).
Methods: Data from 133 children with myopia (average age 9.

Modulators of the sphingosine-1-phosphate receptor (S1PR) have been proposed as a promising strategy for treating stroke. However, the detailed mechanisms and the potential translational value of S1PR modulators for intracerebral hemorrhage (ICH) therapy warrant exploration. Using collagenase VII-S-induced ICH in the left striatum of mice, we investigated the effects of siponimod on cellular and molecular immunoinflammatory responses in the hemorrhagic brain in the presence or absence of anti-CD3 monoclonal antibodies (Abs).

Background: This study aimed to reveal the detailed immune-related mechanisms underlying ischemic stroke (IS) and identify new immune-associated biomarkers for clinical management.
Methods: Differentially expressed genes (DEGs) between IS samples and normal controls were identified using the GSE16561 dataset. The feature genes of the immune cells were investigated using the GSE72642 dataset.

P-glycoprotein (P-gp) is located on the luminal surface of brain vascular endothelium and its status may determine the delivery of the agents into the brain tissues. Previous study showed that upregulation of P-gp at the blood-brain barrier (BBB) after ischemic stroke were mediated by nuclear factor-B (NF-kB) and tumour necrosis factor-α (TNF-α). Based on middle cerebral artery occlusion (MCAO) rats and oxygen-glucose deprivation (OGD) in co-culture of rat brain microvessel endothelial cells (rBMECs) and astrocytes system, the present data indicated that potentiated P-gp expression and activity in brain microvessels or rBMECs were associated with the increase in high-mobility group box 1 (HMGB1), Toll-like receptor 4 (TLR4) and activation of NF-kB and that HMGB1 can release from nucleus to the cytoplasm in activated astrocytes, then into the medium.

Pulmonary fibrosis induced by prolonged exposure to silica particles is a chronic and irreversible lung disease without effective treatment till now. Our previous study has shown that early intervention with MARCO antagonist PolyG could alleviate pulmonary fibrosis in silica-exposed rats. However, the therapeutic effects of PolyG on silica-induced pulmonary fibrosis have rarely been reported.

Accumulated evidence displayed that transplantation of stem cells may be a promising approach for the treatment of neurological disorders. However, the underlying mechanisms remain to be well elucidated. Moreover, some investigators cannot reproduce similar results as the previous.

Topoisomerase IIβ (topoIIβ) is a nuclear enzyme specifically expressed in neurons, and plays an important role in the development of the cerebellum. To date, the expression of topoIIβ protein in medulloblastoma (MB) has not been investigated. In this study, 16 MB specimens including 10 classical subtypes of MB and 6 desmoplastic subtypes of MB (DMB), along with 5 normal cerebellum samples, were obtained from clinics.

Aim: To investigate the pharmacokinetics and distributions of bevacizumab by intravitreal injection of prepared bevacizumab-poly (L-lactic-co-glycolic acid) (PLGA) microspheres in rabbits, to provide evidence for clinical application of this kind of bevacizumab sustained release dosage form.
Methods: Bevacizumab was encapsulated into PLGA microsphere via the solid-in-oil-in-hydrophilic oil (S/O/hO) method. Fifteen healthy New Zealand albino-rabbits were used in experiments.

Background: Oculocutaneous albinism (OCA) is an autosomal recessive disorder. The most common type OCA1 and OCA2 are caused by homozygous or compound heterozygous mutations in the tyrosinase gene (TYR) and OCA2 gene, respectively.
Objective: The purpose of this study was to evaluate the molecular basis of oculocutaneous albinism in four Chinese families.

Background: We have previously reported that Trichinella spiralis Nudix hydrolase (TsNd) bound to intestinal epithelial cells (IECs), and vaccination of mice with recombinant TsNd protein (rTsNd) produced a partial protective immunity. The aim of this study was to investigate the immune protection induced by TsNd DNA vaccine.
Methods: The full-length cDNA sequence of TsNd gene was cloned into pcDNA3.

Glaucoma, a type of optic neuropathy, is characterized by the loss of retinal ganglion cells. It remains controversial whether c-Jun N-terminal kinase (JNK) participates in the apoptosis of retinal ganglion cells in glaucoma. This study sought to explore a possible mechanism of action of JNK signaling pathway in glaucoma-induced retinal optic nerve damage.

In this study, we investigated the effects and mechanism of action of pirenzepine in a guinea pig model of myopia induced by exposure to monochromatic light. It was observed that pirenzepine inhibited the increase of diopter and extension of ocular axial length. Immunohistochemistry staining showed that the number of tyrosine hydroxylase (TH)-positive cells in pirenzepine group was significantly higher compared to the other treatment groups pointing to a highly positive correlation between TH expression levels and the diopter and axial length change.
