Background: Rheumatic heart disease (RHD) continues to be a significant global health concern, exhibiting unique regional disparities. Although there is a noted decline in the burden of RHD, the specific causatives for this decrease remain unclear. This study aims to identify and quantify the spatiotemporal patterns related to the RHD-attributable risk burden.

Article Synopsis
  • Mycobacterium tuberculosis (MTB) is a significant public health threat, necessitating the development of efficient and low-cost detection methods to combat tuberculosis (TB) effectively.
  • Researchers created a TB detection method by combining the CRISPR system with recombinase mediated isothermal amplification (RAA), achieving higher sensitivity and specificity for identifying MTB in patient samples.
  • The new TB-CRISPR technique demonstrated a sensitivity of 88.3% and specificity of 94%, allowing for a quick diagnosis in under 1.5 hours without the need for complex equipment, which is crucial for timely TB management.

Amino-modified silica membrane capable of DNA extraction and enrichment for facilitated isothermal amplification detection of Mycoplasma pneumoniae.

J Pharm Biomed Anal

February 2023

Shandong Provincial Key Laboratory of Biochemical Engineering, Qingdao Nucleic Acid Rapid Detection Engineering Research Center, College of Marine Science and Biological Engineering, Qingdao University of Science and Technology, Qingdao 266042, PR China. Electronic address:

Herein, we developed a facile integrated Mycoplasma pneumoniae diagnosis platform by combining amino-modified silica membrane (AMSM)-based nucleic acids fast extraction and enrichment with colorimetric isothermal amplification detection. AMSM demonstrates a strong ability to capture and enrich nucleic acids in complicated biological matrices, and the purified AMSM/nucleic acids composite could be directly used to perform isothermal amplification including denaturation bubble-mediated strand exchange amplification (SEA) and loop-mediated isothermal amplification (LAMP) reactions. Through comparing clinical specimens, excellent performance of AMSM-based SEA assay with 93.

The glycoprotein YKL-40 has been well studied as a serum biomarker of prognosis and disease status in glioblastoma. YKL-40 is a chitinase-like protein with defective chitinase activity that plays an important role in promoting cell proliferation, migration, and metastasis in glioblastoma multiforme (GBM). The short variant (SV) of YKL-40, generated by an alternative splicing event that splices out exon 8, was reported in the early developing human musculoskeletal system, although its role in GBM is still unknown.

Recent studies have demonstrated the utility and superiority of DNA repair-related genes as novel biomarkers for cancer diagnosis, prognosis, and therapy. Here, we aimed to screen the potential survival-related DNA repair-related genes in thyroid cancer (TC). TCGA datasets were utilized to analyze the differentially expressed DNA repair-related genes between TC and nontumor tissues.

Oral squamous cell carcinoma (OSCC) is a common head and neck malignancy with increasing mortality and high recurrence. Ferroptosis is an emerging programed cell death and plays an essential role in tumorigenesis. Circular RNAs (circRNAs) have been reported as a type of critical regulators in OSCC development.

Article Synopsis
  • The study investigates how scutellarin (SCU) influences the effectiveness of iodine-125 (I) in treating non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) cells, specifically A549 and H1975.
  • Results show that SCU enhances the apoptosis and anti-proliferative effects of I on NSCLC cells, both in cultured cells and in a nude mouse model.
  • The combined treatment with SCU and I leads to significant downregulation of the AKT/mTOR pathway, suggesting a potential mechanism for their enhanced anticancer effects and future therapeutic applications.

Objectives: This study aims to investigate the clinical application values of percutaneous kyphoplasty (PKP) under the guidance of DynaCT in the treatment of compression fractures of thoracolumbar.

Methods: 57 patients with compression fractures of thoracolumbar who were treated with PKP in The Second People's Hospital of Weifang from December 2014 to August 2016 were selected. Patients were randomly divided into DynaCT+DSA treatment group (27 cases) and DSA treatment group (30 cases) for PKP surgery.

BACKGROUND Various studies have highlighted the link between polymorphisms in the XRCC1 gene (encoding X-ray repair cross-complementing group 1) with the incidence of decreased DNA repair capacity and an increased predisposition to cancer. Catechol-O-methyltransferase (COMT) plays a crucial role in estrogen-induced cancers. In the present study was analyzed the potential influence of XRCC1 and COMT gene polymorphisms as predisposing factors from a lung cancer perspective, in addition to conducting an investigation into their interaction with environmental risk factors in relation to lung cancer among non-smoking Chinese women.

BACKGROUND Osteoarticular tuberculosis is an osteolytic lesion caused by Mycobacterium tuberculosis (MTB). Inflammatory factors such as TNF-α play a critical role in anti-tuberculosis immunity by regulating osteoblast and osteoclast functions. Both TGF-β and IL-10 have immune suppression effects to downregulate secretion and release of inflammatory factors, such as TNF-α, that play roles in regulating osteoblast and osteoclast functions.

Metabolomics, as a promising and powerful approach, refers to comprehensive assessment and identification of small molecule endogenous metabolites in a biological system which is capable of further understanding the mechanisms of diseases for early diagnosis, effective treatment and prognosis. Acute kidney injury (AKI) induced by contrast is a serious complication in patients undergoing administration of iodinated contrast media. It is becoming a major health concern in clinic, however, the molecular mechanisms of contrast-induced acute kidney injury (CI-AKI) have not been well characterized.

Many long non-coding RNA (lncRNA) has recently been reported to be dysregulated and involved in the progression of non-small-cell lung cancer. However, the biological role of LOC730101 in NSCLC carcinogenesis remains unclear. In the present study, we found that LOC730101 was up-regulated in TCGA and GEO database, so were in NSCLC tissues and cell lines.

Department of Surgical Oncology, The People's Hospital of Weifang, Weifang, Shandong 261000, P.R.China.

MicroRNAs (miRs) have been demonstrated to be important in the establishment and progression of colon cancer. However the underlying molecular mechanisms remain to be fully elucidated. Polypeptide N‑acetylgalactosaminyltransferase4 (GALNT4) participates in numerous cellular processes, including tumorigenesis.

Retrospective analysis was carried out on intervention treatment and the effects of massive hemoptysis of pulmonary aspergilloma. Twenty-five cases diagnosed as massive hemoptysis of pulmonary aspergilloma were performed with imaging of bronchial arteries and other related blood vessels in order to assess blood vessel type and the number involved in the disease and perform embolotherapy on the offending artery. There were 68 bleeding arteries in 25 cases, of which there were 36 bronchial arteries (52.

The emergence and spread of drug-resistant tuberculosis (DR-TB) has become the major concern in global TB control nowadays due to its limited therapy options and high mortality. A comprehensive evaluation for the epidemiological trends of DR-TB in mainland China, of which TB incidences remain high, is essential but lacking. This study aimed to describe the trends of DR-TB overtime, especially multidrug-resistant TB (MDR-TB); and to identify unique characteristics of MDR-TB cases compared with drug-susceptible TB cases in Mainland China.
