Case report: Achieving significant tumor reduction in advanced pancreatic adenocarcinoma.

Front Oncol

December 2024

Department of Pancreatic Surgery, West China Hospital, Sichuan University, Chengdu, China.

Pancreatic cancer remains a highly malignant and challenging tumor with a dismal 5-year survival rate of only 13%. The majority of patients are diagnosed at advanced stages, where surgical options are limited, and prognosis is poor. Immunotherapy, particularly PD-1 inhibitors, has shown limited success in pancreatic cancer due to its unique tumor immune microenvironment.

Article Synopsis
  • The study investigates the effects of bevacizumab combined with chemoradiotherapy on certain biological markers (VEGF, bFGF, and Let-7) in patients with non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC).
  • A total of 150 NSCLC patients were analyzed, revealing that post-treatment, the study group had lower levels of VEGF and bFGF and higher levels of Let-7 compared to a control group, indicating significant therapeutic effects.
  • Factors such as disease duration, tumor size, and treatment regimen were identified as key influences on treatment efficacy, suggesting that they should be considered when creating treatment plans for NSCLC patients.

Background: Lumbar spinal epidural lipomatosis (SEL) is a rare condition characterized by the pathological proliferation of adipose tissue in the epidural space of the spinal canal. This study presents the case of a 59-year-old male with lumbar SEL treated effectively in the short term through arthroscopic-assisted uniportal spinal surgery (AUSS) combined with a modified circle-drawing unilateral laminotomy with bilateral decompression (ULBD) technique.

Methods: A modified circle-drawing ULBD procedure was executed via AUSS for a patient with SEL.

Background: With the implementation of the 11th edition of the International Classification of Diseases (ICD-11) and the publication of the metabolic dysfunction-associated fatty liver disease (MAFLD) nomenclature in 2020, it is important to establish consensus for the coding of MAFLD in ICD-11. This will inform subsequent revisions of ICD-11.

Methods: Using the Qualtrics XM and WJX platforms, questionnaires were sent online to MAFLD-ICD-11 coding collaborators, authors of papers, and relevant association members.

The status of human epidermal growth factor receptor 2 (HER2) for the prognosis in colorectal cancer (CRC) is controversial, and the characteristics of the somatic mutation spectrum, tumor-infiltrating leukocytes, tertiary lymphoid structures and PD-L1 protein are unknown in HER2-amplified colorectal cancer (HACC). In order to explore these characteristics along with their correlation with clinicopathological factors and prognosis in HACC. Samples of 812 CRC patients was collected.

Long non-coding RNAs (lncRNAs) have been demonstrated to influence the chemoresistance of colorectal cancer (CRC). Therefore, the study is designed to investigate the regulatory function and mechanism of Taurine up-regulated gene 1 (TUG1) in the cisplatin resistance of CRC. qRT-PCR checked the expressions of TUG1, Insulin-like growth factor 2 mRNA-binding protein 2 (IGF2BP2), and miR-195-5p in CRC tissues and cells.

Purpose: The present study was conducted to evaluate the efficacy and tolerability of using an immune checkpoint inhibitor (ICI; programmed cell death protein 1/ligand 1 [PD-1/PD-L1] inhibitor or cytotoxic T-lymphocyte antigen [CTLA]-4 inhibitor) combined with chemotherapy in the first-line treatment of small cell lung cancer.

Methods: Potential articles and studies were identified using Web of Science, Cochrane Library, and ClinicalTrials.gov.

Background: As the member of erbium laser family, Erbium, Chromium: Yttrium Scandium Gallium Garnet (Er,Cr:YSGG) has obtained the approval for caries removal and cavity preparation by Food and Drug Administration (FDA). However, there is still controversy over the beneficial effects of Er,Cr:YSGG preparations on microleakage. The present study is the first systematic review and meta-analysis to compare the microleakage of cavities prepared by Er,Cr:YSGG lasers with that by traditional burs.

Background: Diabetic retinopathy (DR) is a specific neurovascular complication of diabetes mellitus (DM). Clinically, family history is a widely recognized risk factor for DR, assisting diagnosis and risk strata. However, among a great amount of DR patients without hereditary history like hypertension and diabetes, direct and simple risk factors to assist clinical decisions are still required.

July 2017

Department of General Surgery, the Second People's Hospital of Qujing, Qujing, 655000, China.

To investigate the changes of speech and voice acoustics in patients with thyroid disease before and after operation, get objective values, and conducive to guiding the clinical diagnosis and treatment and recurrent laryngeal nerve protection. A total of 216 patients undergoing thyroid surgery from October 2015 to October 2016 were treated with TVQ and GRBAS at 1 day before surgery, 1 week, 1 month, and 3 months postoperatively to phonological assessment, and Praat software was used to collect and analyze the acoustic acoustics index for preoperative and postoperative comparative analysis. All patients did not damage the recurrent laryngeal nerve, unilateral or bilateral thyroid subtotal resection (no exploration of recurrent laryngeal nerve) in patients with postoperative speech and voice index F0 was decreased at 1 week after surgery (<0.

Histidine triad nucleotide-binding protein 1 (Hint1) is a haploinsufficient tumor suppressor gene. Its role in cancer cell migration has not been previously speculated. In the current study, we examined the expression of Hint1 in metastatic and non-metastatic lymph nodes of hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) patients and further elucidated the effect of Hint1 expression on girdin expression and phosphorylation of AKT and ERK1/2 and on the migration of HCC cells in vitro.
