Cancer Med

November 2024

State Key Laboratory for Diagnosis and Treatment of Infectious Diseases, National Clinical Research Center for Infectious Diseases, National Medical Center for Infectious Diseases, Collaborative Innovation Center for Diagnosis and Treatment of Infectious Diseases, the First Affiliated Hospital, Zhejiang University School of Medicine, Hangzhou, China.

Background: The occult onset and rapid progression of hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) lead to an unsatisfactory overall survival (OS) rate. Established prognostic predictive models based on tumor-node-metastasis staging and predictive factors do not report satisfactory predictive efficacy. Arachidonic acid plays pivotal roles in biological processes including inflammation, regeneration, immune modulation, and tumorigenesis.

Intercostal approach VATS is feasible for large-sized anterior mediastinal tumors.

Sci Rep

July 2024

Department of Thoracic Surgery, The First Affiliated Hospital, Zhejiang University School of Medicine, No. 79 Qingchun Road, Hangzhou, 310003, China.

Identifying predictors for surgical site infections (SSIs) after emergency surgical treatment for traumatic pulmonary haemorrhage (TPH) is crucial for improving patient outcomes. This study aims to ascertain these predictors. In this comprehensive retrospective study, conducted from January 2020 to December 2023 at our institution, 75 patients were analysed, including a case group of 25 patients with SSIs and a control group of 50 without SSIs post-TPH surgery.

Objectives: The application of video-assisted thoracoscopic surgery (VATS) for relatively large mediastinal tumours (≥5.0 cm) has been a subject of debate, and few studies have investigated the subxiphoid approach VATS in different tumour size categories. The study aims to compare the efficacy of the subxiphoid approach VATS for achieving curative outcomes based on tumour size categories (<3.

Article Synopsis
  • The study aimed to create a survival model for patients with upper tract urothelial carcinoma (UTUC) based on clinical data from 241 patients treated between 2010 and 2018.
  • Significant risk factors for postoperative death included older age, larger tumor diameter, higher tumor grade, advanced pathological stage, and lymph node metastasis, with these factors leading to the development of a nomogram prediction model.
  • The nomogram demonstrated good predictive capability with an area under the curve of 0.828, indicating its potential use in assessing mortality risk and guiding personalized treatment plans for UTUC patients.

Objective: To investigate the effect and clinical value of magnetic attachments in oral restoration.

Methods: Seventy-two cases of dental defects treated in Haishu District Stomatological Hospital from April 2018 to October 2019 were selected for retrospective analysis, of which 36 cases were treated with routine oral restoration (control group) and 34 cases with magnetic attachments (research group). The clinical efficacy, adverse reactions, masticatory efficiency and fixation force were compared between the two groups, and the treatment satisfaction was investigated at discharge.

Expression Pattern of Cytokines in Patients with Chronic Hepatitis B Receiving PEGinterferon Therapy.

Int J Gen Med

May 2023

Department of Infectious Diseases, Huashan Hospital, Fudan University, Shanghai, 200040, People's Republic of China.

Purpose: Chronic hepatitis B virus (CHB) infection is a worldwide health problem. Polyethylene glycol (PEG)ylated interferon (PEG-IFN) is an available therapy for CHB that has antiviral and immunomodulatory effects. However, PEG-IFN therapy is limited by the fact that only a subset of patients show a sustained response, its severe side effects, and high cost.

Visualizing in situ viral replication across the natural history of chronic HBV infection.

Hepatol Commun

April 2023

Department of Infectious Disease, National Medical Center for Infectious Diseases and Shanghai Key Laboratory of Infectious Diseases and Biosafety Emergency Response, Huashan Hospital, Fudan University, Shanghai, P.R. China.

Background And Aims: Chronic HBV infection evolves through different phases. Interactions between viral replication and the host immune response in the liver underlie the pathogenesis of this disease. The aim of this study was to directly visualize the HBV replication intermediates at a single-cell resolution inscribed on morphological changes corresponding to disease activity.

Tanshinone IIA (Tan IIA) has an important role in treatment of cardiovascular diseases, including atherosclerosis. The vascular smooth muscle cells (VSMCs) are a major part of the atherosclerotic plaque. However, the biological functions of Tan IIA in regulating VSMCs function remain mostly unclear.

There is currently no standard treatment for multiple primary lung cancer (MPLC). We report a case of synchronous MPLC presenting as one ground-glass opacity (GGO) with predominant consolidation accompanied by at least parietal pleura involvement, and another with >30 GGOs distributed across bilateral lungs, which was ineligible for complete resection. CT-guided percutaneous biopsy of the nearly pure-solid mass showed invasive lung adenocarcinoma mainly composed of acinar type.
