Background: Neuroinflammation and oxidative stress after traumatic brain injury (TBI) can further lead to neuronal apoptosis, which plays a crucial role in the process of neuron death. Curcumin, which is derived from the rhizome of the Curcuma longa plant, has multiple pharmacological effects.

Objective: The objective of this study was to investigate whether curcumin treatment has neuroprotective effects after TBI, and to elucidate the underlying mechanism.

Randomized controlled trial of nalfurafine for refractory pruritus in hemodialysis patients.

Chronic kidney disease-associated pruritus (CKD-aP) is very common and sometimes refractory to treatment in hemodialysis patients. In a trial conducted in Japan, nalfurafine, effectively reduced itching of treatment-resistant CKD-aP. Our present bridging study aimed to evaluate the efficacy and safety of nalfurafine in Chinese cohort with refractory CKD-aP.

Characteristics of immunological events in Epstein-Barr virus infection in children with infectious mononucleosis.

Backgrounds & Aims: Epstein-Barr virus (EBV) infection occurs commonly in children and may cause acute infectious mononucleosis (AIM) and various malignant diseases. Host immune responses are key players in the resistance to EBV infection. We here assessed the immunological events and laboratory indicators of EBV infection, as well as determined the clinical usefulness of evaluating the severity and efficacy of antiviral therapy in AIM patients.

Refractory diarrhea in a patient with Sjogren's syndrome: A case report.

We present the case of a 66-year-old man with no abdominal symptoms other than chronic refractory diarrhea. Other causes for diarrhea were excluded. The positive results of anti-SSA antibodies, Schirmer's test, and the biopsy of minor salivary glands confirmed the diagnosis of Sjogren's syndrome.

Neuromelanin magnetic resonance imaging of substantia nigra and locus coeruleus in Parkinson's disease with freezing of gait.

Background: The downregulation of monoamines, especially dopamine in substantia nigra (SN) and norepinephrine in locus coeruleus (LC), may be responsible for freezing of gait (FOG) pathological basis in Parkinson's disease (PD).

Methods: Thirty-two Parkinson's disease patients with freezing of gait (PD-FOG), 32 Parkinson's disease patients without freezing of gait (PD-NFOG) and 32 healthy controls (HC) underwent neuromelanin magnetic resonance imaging (NM-MRI). The volume, surface area and contrast to noise ratio (CNR) of SN and LC were measured and compared.

Oncogenic FLT3 internal tandem duplication activates E2F1 to regulate purine metabolism in acute myeloid leukaemia.

Oncogene FLT3 internal tandem duplication (FLT3-ITD) mutation accounts for 30 % of acute myeloid leukaemia (AML) cases and induces transformation. Previously, we found that E2F transcription factor 1 (E2F1) was involved in AML cell differentiation. Here, we reported that E2F1 expression was aberrantly upregulated in AML patients, especially in AML patients carrying FLT3-ITD.

Background: Gastric cancer (GC) is one of the most common malignant tumors worldwide, and we hope to identify an economical but practical prognostic indicator. It has been reported that inflammatory indicators and tumor markers are associated with GC progression and are widely used to predict prognosis. However, existing prognostic models do not comprehensively analyze these predictors.

IL-6, IL-1β and TNF-α regulation of the chondrocyte phenotype: a possible mechanism of haemophilic cartilage destruction.

Objective: Proinflammatory cytokines are considered to be one of the key causes of haemophilic cartilage destruction by inducing chondrocyte apoptosis and extracellular matrix degradation. However, few studies have focused on how proinflammatory cytokines regulate the phenotypic changes of chondrocytes, which may be an important factor in haemophilic cartilage degradation pathogenesis. More understanding is needed about the effect of proinflammatory cytokines on phenotypic changes of the chondrocyte.

Treatment of gorham-stout disease with bisphosphonates and total hip arthroplasty: A case report.

Background: Gorham-Stout disease (GSD) is a rare osteolytic disease with unknown etiology, varied clinical manifestations and unpredictable prognosis. This disease is characterized by progressive massive local osteolysis and resorption caused by intraosseous lymphatic vessel structure and thin-walled vascular proliferation. The diagnosis of GSD has not yet formed a uniform standard, but the combination of clinical manifestations, radiological features and unique histopathological examinations and excluding other diseases contribute to early diagnosis.

Background: Smartphone addiction (SA) is associated with adverse consequences, especially for freshmen. Evidence indicates that SA is associated with depression, and it is necessary to conduct a longitudinal study to explore the association further.

Methods: SA (measured by the Smartphone Addiction Scale-Short Version) and depression (measured by the Zung's Self-Rating Depression Scale) among 1,186 freshmen were surveyed at baseline and a respective 12-month follow-up for each participant.

The role of HBV cccDNA in occult hepatitis B virus infection.

Occult hepatitis B virus (HBV) infection (OBI) refers to the presence of replication-competent HBV DNA in the liver, with or without HBV DNA in the blood, in individuals who tested negative for HBV surface antigen (HBsAg). In this peculiar phase of HBV infection, the covalently closed circular DNA (cccDNA) is in a low state of replication. Several advances have been made toward clarifying the mechanisms involved in such a suppression of viral activity, which seems to be mainly related to the host's immune control and epigenetic factors.

Advancements of molecular imaging and radiomics in pancreatic carcinoma.

Despite the recent progress of medical technology in the diagnosis and treatment of tumors, pancreatic carcinoma remains one of the most malignant tumors, with extremely poor prognosis partly due to the difficulty in early and accurate imaging evaluation. This paper focuses on the research progress of magnetic resonance imaging, nuclear medicine molecular imaging and radiomics in the diagnosis of pancreatic carcinoma. We also briefly described the achievements of our team in this field, to facilitate future research and explore new technologies to optimize diagnosis of pancreatic carcinoma.

Evaluation of the Application Effect of WeChat Platform-based Communication Mode in Family Members of Patients after Partial Pulmonary Resection in the Anesthesia Intensive Care Unit.

In this study, we explored the application effect of the communication mode based on WeChat platform in the family members of patients after partial pulmonary resection in the anesthesia intensive care unit. We selected 80 patients with elective general anesthesia for partial pulmonary resection and divided them into an observation group and a control group with 40 cases in each group according to the random number table method. We compared anxiety self-evaluation scores, medical service satisfaction scores, and family members' desire to visit between the 2 groups.
