The prognosis of advanced lung adenocarcinoma (LUAD) remains unfavorable, with chemotherapy constituting a primary treatment modality. Discerning the efficacy of chemotherapy for advanced LUAD is imperative. Prior investigations have demonstrated the prognostic value of albumin and D-dimer individually for malignancies; however, the predictive capacity of albumin-to-D-dimer ratios (ADR) for advanced LUAD subjected to first-line platinum-based chemotherapy remains unexplored.

Article Synopsis
  • Acute myocardial infarction (AMI) is primarily caused by the rupture of unstable coronary plaques, leading to a series of damaging biological events culminating in heart cell death.
  • This study analyzed gene expression data related to AMI, focusing on the role of platelet-derived microvesicles (PMVs) and identified a specific miRNA-mRNA regulatory network involving the gene ACSL1.
  • It was found that high ACSL1 levels in AMI patients' platelets could promote heart cell death through PMV transport, suggesting potential therapeutic strategies to protect heart cells from Ferroptosis in AMI patients.

GPX4-independent ferroptosis-a new strategy in disease's therapy.

Cell Death Discov

October 2022

Department of Otorhinolaryngology Head and Neck surgery, The First Hospital affiliated to Harbin Medical University, Harbin, Heilongjiang, China.

Ferroptosis is a form of programmed cell death characterized by intracellular iron accumulation and lipid peroxidation, and earlier studies identified glutathione peroxidase 4 (GPX4) as an essential regulator of this process. Ferroptosis plays an essential role in tumors, degenerative diseases, and ischemia-reperfusion injury. However, researchers have found that inhibition of GPX4 does not entirely suppress ferroptosis in certain diseases, or cells express resistance to ferroptosis agonists that inhibit GPX4.

October 2020

Medical Oncology Department of Gastrointestinal Cancer, Liaoning Cancer Hospital & Institute, Cancer Hospital of China Medical University, No.44 Xiaoheyan Road, Dadong District, Shenyang 110042, Liaoning Province, China.

Electrolyte disturbance and systemic inflammation contributes to poor prognosis of cancer patients. Levels of serum sodium and globulin can reflect electrolyte homeostasis and inflammatory state, respectively, therefore have potential as prognostic factors for cancer patients. In this study, we hypothesized that sodium to globulin ratio (SGR) could have superior accuracy in predicting cancer patient survival, than sodium and globulin alone.
