Background: Poor symptom control and exacerbations of asthma diminish quality of life and pose a significant burden to patients and society. Implementing evidence-based management as recommended by the Global Initiative for Asthma (GINA), especially introducing inhaled corticosteroid-containing treatments, has the potential to vastly reduce exacerbations and the high burden of asthma in China. However, domestic implementation of the GINA recommendations has been unsatisfactory, especially in lower-level hospitals; thus, an enhancement to the awareness of and adherence to the GINA recommendations among Chinese physicians is needed to improve patient outcomes.

The present study aimed to determine the potential of carcinoembryonic antigen (CEA), alpha-fetoprotein (AFP), carbohydrate antigen (CA)19-9 and CA242 in predicting recurrence/metastasis of gastric cancer in patients following radical gastrectomy. The clinical data of 368 patients with stage I-III gastric cancer who underwent radical gastrectomy were analyzed, and CEA, AFP, CA19-9 and CA242 levels were detected prior to surgery and 6-12 months following surgery. Univariate and multivariate analyses were used to evaluate the potential risk factors for post-operative recurrence/metastasis of gastric cancer, and the predictive value of CEA, AFP, CA19-9 and CA242 levels was evaluated using receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curve and area under the curve (AUC).

Background: Neoadjuvant chemotherapy (NACT) is the standard-of-care treatment for patients with locally advanced breast cancer (LABC), providing crucial benefits in tumor downstaging. Clinical parameters, such as molecular subtypes, influence the therapeutic impact of NACT. Moreover, severe adverse events delay the treatment process and reduce the effectiveness of therapy.

Objective: Both belimumab and telitacicept are recognised blockers for B lymphocyte activation, both of which have been approved as add-on therapies for SLE in China. The aim of this study is to compare the efficacy of rituximab (RTX) followed by belimumab or telitacicept in a real-world cohort.
Methods: A total of 49 refractory lupus nephritis patients were enrolled from four independent centres, subsequently categorised into two treatment groups: belimumab group (n=35) and telitacicept group (n=14) based on their treatment following RTX.

Triple-negative breast cancer (TNBC) represents the most aggressive subtype of breast cancer, lacking effective targeted therapies and presenting with a poor prognosis. In this study, we utilized the epigenomic landscape, TCGA database, and clinical samples to uncover the pivotal role of HJURP in TNBC. Our investigation revealed a strong correlation between elevated HJURP expression and unfavorable prognosis, metastatic progression, and late-stage of breast cancer.

Introduction: The choroid plexus (CP) may play a crucial role in brain degeneration. We aim to assess whether CP cysts (CPCs), defined using ultra-high field magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), relate to aging and neurodegeneration.
Methods: We used multi-sequence 7T MRI to observe CPCs, characterizing their presence and characteristics in healthy younger controls, healthy older controls (OCs), patients with Alzheimer's disease (AD), patients with Parkinson's disease (PD), and patients with uremic encephalopathy.

Background: Pelvic reconstruction after type I + II (or type I + II + III) internal hemipelvectomy with extensive ilium removal is a great challenge. In an attempt to anatomically reconstruct the hip rotation center (HRC) and achieve a low mechanical failure rate, a custom-made, 3D-printed prosthesis with a porous articular interface was developed. The aim of this study was to investigate the clinical outcomes of patients treated with this prosthesis.

Objective: The overlap of affective disturbance and psychosis considerably makes it complex to determine the etiology of bipolar disorder (BD) and develop targeted interventions. The present study aimed to determine the white matter microstructural alterations that distinguish between BD with psychosis (BDP) and BD with no psychosis (BDNP) to identify patients who may specifically benefit from appropriately effective treatments.
Methods: Diffusion-weighted magnetic resonance images were acquired from 38 participants with BDP, 52 participants with BDNP and 70 healthy controls (HCs).

Extracellular vesicles (EVs) play a crucial role in delivering bioactive cargo in infectious diseases. Here, we present a protocol for isolating EVs from alveolar macrophages (AMs) that phagocytose methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) in vitro cell culture models. We describe steps for bacterial preparation; infection of AMs with MRSA; and isolation, purification, and characterization of EVs.
