Background: Investigate the link between systemic immune-inflammatory index (SII) and Systemic Immune Response Index (SIRI) with osteoarthritis (OA) using National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES) data (1999-2018).

Methods: Extracted NHANES data (1999-2018) and selected a study population based on demographic, examination, and laboratory data. Calculated SII (platelet count ​× ​neutrophil count/lymphocyte count) and SIRI (neutrophil count ​× ​monocyte count/lymphocyte count).

Peripheral Blood NMLR Can Predict 5-Year All-Cause Mortality in Patients with Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease.

Background: Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) is characterized by pulmonary and systemic inflammation. The peripheral blood (neutrophil + monocyte)/lymphocyte ratio (NMLR) can predict the clinical outcomes of several inflammatory diseases. However, its prognostic value in COPD remains unknown.

Deep Learning for Obstructive Sleep Apnea Detection and Severity Assessment: A Multimodal Signals Fusion Multiscale Transformer Model.

Purpose: To develop a deep learning (DL) model for obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) detection and severity assessment and provide a new approach for convenient, economical, and accurate disease detection.

Methods: Considering medical reliability and acquisition simplicity, we used electrocardiogram (ECG) and oxygen saturation (SpO) signals to develop a multimodal signal fusion multiscale Transformer model for OSA detection and severity assessment. The proposed model comprises signal preprocessing, feature extraction, cross-modal interaction, and classification modules.

Association of Naples Prognostic Score with cardiovascular disease risk and its longitudinal prognostic impact on mortality in cardiovascular disease patients: Evidence from NHANES.

Background And Aim: The Naples Prognostic Score (NPS) predicts outcomes in various diseases, but its impact on cardiovascular disease (CVD) is understudied. This study investigates the association between NPS and CVD prevalence and mortality among US adults.

Methods And Results: This study utilized data from the Continuous National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES) conducted between 1999 and 2016, with mortality follow-up data available through December 31, 2019.

Impact of intermediate-dose tertiary prophylaxis on quality of life and psychological aspects of adult patients with severe/moderate hemophilia A.

Objectives: Whether intermediate-dose tertiary prophylaxis can improve quality of life and psychological health in adults with severe/moderate hemophilia A has not been determined. This research aims to explore the impact of intermediate-dose tertiary prophylaxis with recombinant human FVIII (rhFVIII) on quality of life, anxiety and depression in such individuals transitioned from on-demand treatment.

Methods: This retrospective analysis collected data from July 2019 to July 2022.

RET-AREAL: a multi-center, real-world data analysis on the efficacy of pralsetinib in acquired RET fusion after resistance to EGFR/ALK-TKIs.

Pralsetinib demonstrated impressive improvement of survival in non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) patients harbored de novo RET fusion. However, the efficacy in patients with acquired RET fusion after resistance to EGFR/ALK-TKIs has only been reported on a case-by-case basis, and the strategy for overcoming the acquired RET fusion has not been fully investigated. This multicenter, real-world analysis enrolled 32 patients with unresectable NSCLC harbored acquired RET fusion after resistance to EGFR/ALK-TKIs in 23 centers across China from July 1, 2018 to Nov 23, 2022.

Burden, trends, and predictions of liver cancer in China, Japan, and South Korea: analysis based on the Global Burden of Disease Study 2021.

Background: Liver cancer (LC) is a major concern in the Asia-Pacific region, particularly in China, Korea, and Japan. In this study, we aimed to investigate the burden, trends, and predictions related to LC in these countries.

Methods: Using data from the Global Burden of Disease Study 2021, the epidemiological characteristics [incidence, deaths, and disability-adjusted life-years (DALYs)] for LC were analysed and stratified by specific etiologies in China, Japan, and South Korea.

Gene circuits, which are genetically engineered systems designed to regulate gene expression, are emerging as powerful tools in disease theranostics, especially in mammalian cells. This review explores the latest advances in the design and application of gene circuits for detecting and treating various diseases. Synthetic gene circuits, inspired by electronic systems, offer precise control over therapeutic gene activity, allowing for real-time, user-defined responses to pathological signals.

Substrate stiffness modulates osteogenic and adipogenic differentiation of osteosarcoma through PIEZO1 mediated signaling pathway.

Most osteosarcoma (OS) cases exhibit poor differentiation at the histopathological level. Disruption of the normal osteogenic differentiation process results in the unregulated proliferation of precursor cells, which is a critical factor in the development of OS. Differentiation therapy aims to slow disease progression by restoring the osteogenic differentiation process of OS cells and is considered a new approach to treating OS.

A multicenter retrospective study of early cardiac toxicity in operable breast cancer patients receiving concurrent dual or mono anti-HER2 therapy with postoperative radiation therapy.

Purpose: This study aims to assess whether dual anti-HER2 therapy with trastuzumab and pertuzumab increases early cardiac toxicity compared to trastuzumab alone in breast cancer (BC) patients receiving postoperative radiation therapy (RT).

Methods: Consecutive operable BC patients receiving postoperative RT and trastuzumab with or without pertuzumab between January 2017 and September 2020 at seven tertiary hospitals in China were retrospectively reviewed. Cardiac examinations included echocardiography, electrocardiogram (ECG), NT-proBNP, and cTnI at baseline before RT and during the follow-up.

A pH/GSH Dual-Responsive Triple Synergistic Bimetallic Nanocatalyst for Enhanced Tumor Chemodynamic Therapy.

Chemodynamic therapy (CDT) has garnered significant attention in the field of tumor therapy due to its ability to convert overexpressed hydrogen peroxide (HO) in tumors into highly toxic hydroxyl radicals (•OH) through metal ion-mediated catalysis. However, the effectiveness of CDT is hindered by low catalyst efficiency, insufficient intra-tumor HO level, and excessive glutathione (GSH). In this study, a pH/GSH dual responsive bimetallic nanocatalytic system (CuFeMOF@GOx@Mem) is developed by modifying red blood cell membranes onto glucose oxidase (GOx)-loaded Fe-Cu bimetallic MOFs, enhancing the efficacy of CDT through a triple-enhanced way by HO self-supply, catalysts self-cycling, and GSH self-elimination.

Gaps in knowledge and management of iron deficiency in heart failure: a nationwide survey of cardiologists in China.

Background: Heart failure (HF) guidelines recommend routine testing for iron deficiency (ID) and, for those with ID, intravenous iron if the left ventricular ejection fraction is <50%. Guideline adherence to these recommendations by cardiologists in China is unknown.

Methods And Results: An independent academic web-based survey was designed and distributed via social networks to cardiologists across China.

Aims: Glucosamine, a widely used dietary supplement, has been linked to potential cardiovascular risks, including atrial fibrillation (AF). This study aimed to investigate the effects of long-term glucosamine supplementation on AF susceptibility and the underlying mechanisms.

Materials And Methods: C57BL/6 J mice were treated with low-dose (15 mg/kg/day) or high-dose (250 mg/kg/day) glucosamine via drinking water for 6 weeks.

Osteosarcopenia is a progressive disease of the musculoskeletal system and result in heavy burden of patients. Studies suggest that gut microbiota is involved in the pathogenesis of osteosarcopenia, whether AOS can improve the symptoms of osteosarcopenia by modulating gut microbiota remains to be elucidated.

The objective of this study is to gain insight into the current research frontiers, hotspots, and development trends in the field of immunization programs for women and children, and to provide scientific guidance and reference for follow-up research. Based on all the original research papers related to the research on immunization programs for women and children in the Web of Science Core Collection (WoSCC) database, bibliometric studies and visual analysis were carried out to explore the research frontiers, hotspots and development trends, and to analyze the risk factors affecting the vaccination coverage of immunization programs for women and children. Eight hundred forty-three papers obtained from 1,552 institutions in 96 countries/regions from January 1950 to August 2024, coauthored by 4,343 authors.

Sexually dimorphic dopaminergic circuits determine sex preference.

Sociosexual preference is critical for reproduction and survival. However, neural mechanisms encoding social decisions on sex preference remain unclear. In this study, we show that both male and female mice exhibit female preference but shift to male preference when facing survival threats; their preference is mediated by the dimorphic changes in the excitability of ventral tegmental area dopaminergic (VTA) neurons.

Exploring artificial intelligence for differentiating early syphilis from other skin lesions: a pilot study.

Background: Early diagnosis of syphilis is vital for its effective control. This study aimed to develop an Artificial Intelligence (AI) diagnostic model based on radiomics technology to distinguish early syphilis from other clinical skin lesions.

Methods: The study collected 260 images of skin lesions caused by various skin infections, including 115 syphilis and 145 other infection types.

A multi-kinase inhibitor screen identifies inhibitors preserving stem-cell-like chimeric antigen receptor T cells.

Chimeric antigen receptor T cells (CAR T cells) with T stem (T) cell-like phenotypic characteristics promote sustained antitumor effects. We performed an unbiased and automated high-throughput screen of a kinase-focused compound set to identify kinase inhibitors (KIs) that preserve human T cell-like CAR T cells. We identified three KIs, UNC10225387B, UNC10225263A and UNC10112761A, that combined in vitro increased the frequency of CD45RACCR7TCF1 T cell-like CAR T cells from both healthy donors and patients with cancer.

Single-center experience of venetoclax combined with azacitidine in young patients with newly diagnosed acute myeloid leukemia.

Background: Medical resources, especially blood products, were in short supply during the COVID-19. Less intensive therapy with hypomethylating agents/venetoclax (VEN) seems an effective treatment option for patients with acute myeloid leukemia (AML).

Objectives: To retrospectively analyze the efficacy and safety of VEN combined with azacitidine (AZA) in young adult patients with newly diagnosed (ND) AML.

Background: Contrast-enhanced ultrasound (CEUS) shows potential for the differential diagnosis of breast lesions in general, but its effectiveness remains unclear for the differential diagnosis of lesions highly suspicious for breast cancers.

Objective: This study aimed to evaluate the diagnostic value of CEUS in differentiating pathological subtypes of suspicious breast lesions defined as category 4 of US-BI-RADS.

Methods: The dataset of 150 breast lesions was prospectively collected from 150 patients who underwent routine ultrasound and CEUS examination and were highly suspected of having breast cancers.
