Obviously, immune cells like T cells and macrophages play a major role in rheumatoid arthritis (RA). On one hand, the breakdown of immune homeostasis directly induces systemic inflammation; on the other hand, these cells initiate and perpetuate synovitis and tissue damages through the interaction with fibroblast-like synoviocytes (FLS). In recent years, the pathological link between metabolic disorders and immune imbalance has received increasing attention.

Objectives: Intracranial and extracranial plaque features on high-resolution vessel wall imaging (HR-VWI) are associated with large-artery atherosclerosis (LAA) stroke recurrence. However, most studies have focused on a single vascular bed, and the prognostic value of combined intracranial and extracranial plaque features has yet to be studied. This study aimed to investigate the roles of plaque features, plaque number, and co-existing atherosclerosis in predicting stroke recurrence, utilizing combined head-and-neck HR-VWI.

Proteins produced by cap-independent translation mediated by an internal ribosome entry site (IRES) in circular RNAs (circRNAs) play important roles in tumour progression. To date, numerous studies have been performed on circRNAs and the proteins they encode. In this review, we summarize the biogenesis of circRNAs and the mechanisms regulating circRNA-encoded proteins expression.

Background: α-Mangostin (MG) showed the potentials in alleviating experimental arthritis, inhibiting inflammatory polarization of macrophages/monocytes, and regulating peroxisome proliferators-activated receptor γ (PPAR-γ) and silent information regulator 1 (SIRT1) signals. The aim of this study was to analyze the correlations among the above-mentioned properties.

Methods: Antigen-induced arthritis (AIA) was established in mouse, which was treated with MG in combination with SIRT1/PPAR-γ inhibitors to clarify the role of the two signals in the anti-arthritic actions.

miR-590-3p has been reported to be reduced in myocardial ischaemia-reperfusion (I/R) injury, but its specific role in cerebral I/R injury is still uncertain. Thus, we explored the function and mechanism of miR-590-3p in cerebral I/R injury using a cellular model. miR-590-3p, high mobility group Box 1 (HMGB1), and signalling-related factor levels were assessed using qPCR or a western blot analysis.

Background: Neuronal intranuclear inclusion disease (NIID) is a rare neurological degenerative disorder with diverse manifestations and inadequate awareness. Only a few cases of NIID have been reported, and typical imaging findings can provide certain clues for the diagnosis of the disease. Furthermore, skin biopsy and genetic testing are important to confirm the diagnosis.

Prenylated rab acceptor 1 domain family member 2 (PRAF2) acts as an oncogene and is closely related to the occurrence and development of various tumors. The present study aimed to clarify the functional relevance of PRAF2 in the biological behaviors of breast cancer by determining the expression of PRAF2 in breast cancer tissues and the corresponding adjacent tissues. The gene phenotypes of PRAF2 in patients with breast cancer in The Cancer Genome Atlas database were predicted using a cancer data online analysis website: The University of Alabama at Birmingham Cancer Data Analaysis Portal (UALCAN).

We investigated the alteration of gut microbiota and the associated metabolic risks in hypertensive patients with obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) comorbidity. Fecal and blood samples were collected from 52 hypertensive patients, who were divided into three groups: A (controls, apnea-hypopnea index[AHI] < 5, n = 15), B (mild OSA, 5 < AHI < 20, n = 17), and C (moderate-to-severe OSA, AHI > 20, n = 20). The composition of the gut microbiota was studied through 16s RNA sequencing of variable regions 3-4.

The protective effects of antibiotics against infection in cancer patients treated with chemotherapy remains unclear and related studies have been performed in healthy or pathogen-infected animal models. Here, we aimed to study the effects of antibiotic use on intestinal infection in tumor-bearing mice treated with chemotherapy and to determine the underlying mechanisms. Subcutaneous CT26 tumor-bearing mice were assigned to four groups: the control (Ctrl) group without any treatment, the antibiotic (ATB) group treated with a mixture of ampicillin, streptomycin, and colistin, the 5-fluorouracil (FU) group treated with four cycles of intraperitoneal injections of FU, and the ATB + FU group treated with the combination of ATB and FU.
