Unlabelled: A temporary loop ileostomy is a routine procedure for protecting the anastomosis in patients undergoing radical resection of rectal cancer. Fecal diversion by a diverting ileostomy may induce microbiota dysbiosis in the defunctioned colon; however, data on temporal and spatial microbiome and metabolome changes in these patients are sparse. Thirty patients who underwent ileostomy closure were enrolled.

The identification of low-frequency variants remains challenging due to the inevitable high error rates of next-generation sequencing (NGS). Numerous promising strategies employ unique molecular identifiers (UMIs) for error suppression. However, their efficiency depends highly on redundant sequencing and quality control, leading to tremendous read waste and cost inefficiency.

Microcavity Array-Based Digital SERS Chip for Rapid and Accurate Label-free Quantitative Detection of Live Bacteria.

ACS Sens

November 2024

College of Optoelectronic Engineering, Key Laboratory of Optoelectronic Technology and Systems, Ministry of Education, Key Disciplines Lab of Novel Micro-Nano Devices and System Technology, Chongqing University, Chongqing 400044, China.

In this study, we developed a novel digital surface-enhanced Raman spectroscopy (SERS) chip that integrates an inverted pyramid microcavity array, a microchannel cover plate, and a multilayer gold nanoparticle (AuNP) SERS substrate. This innovative design exploits the synergistic effects of the microcavity array and the microchannel to enable rapid and large-scale digital discretization of bacterial suspensions. The concentration effect of the picoliter cavities, combined with the superior Raman enhancement effect of the multilayer AuNP SERS substrate, allows for the precise identification of live bacteria within the microcavities through in situ and label-free SERS testing after a short incubation period.

Article Synopsis
  • Abdominal perfusion pressure (APP) helps predict how likely patients with a serious belly condition are to survive.
  • Using smart AI technology, researchers filled in missing patient data to make better predictions.
  • They studied 1354 patients and found that lower APP is linked to higher chances of dying, and their new prediction model worked better than older methods.

Background: An appropriate prediction model for adverse prognosis before peritoneal dialysis (PD) is lacking. Thus, we retrospectively analysed patients who underwent PD to construct a predictive model for adverse prognoses using machine learning (ML).

Methods: A retrospective analysis was conducted on 873 patients who underwent PD from August 2007 to December 2020.

Serum Annexin A2 concentrations are increased in patients with diabetic cardiomyopathy and are linked to cardiac dysfunctions.

Diabetes Res Clin Pract

January 2023

Department of Endocrinology, Translational Research of Diabetes Key Laboratory of Chongqing Education Commission of China, the Second Affiliated Hospital of Army Medical University, Chongqing 400037, China. Electronic address:

Background: Diabetic cardiomyopathy (DbCM) is defined as the existence of abnormal myocardial structure and functions in the absence of other cardiac diseases, such as coronary artery disease, hypertension, and significant valvular disease, in individuals with diabetes. Although abundant epidemic evidence demonstrates that diabetes is independently associated with the risk of developing heart failure, DbCM is not normally diagnosed in clinical practices due to its exclusive diagnosis, and no diagnostic biomarker was applied in a clinical test.

Methods: To detect the concentrations of serum Annexin A2 in non-diabetic subjects, type 2 diabetic (T2DM) patients with or without DbCM, and analyzed its relationship to parameters of cardiac functions, glucose, lipid metabolism, and renal functions.

Fasting plasma glucose and glucose fluctuation are associated with COVID-19 prognosis regardless of pre-existing diabetes.

Diabetes Res Clin Pract

October 2021

Department of Epidemiology, College of Preventive Medicine, Army Medical University (Third Military Medical University), Chongqing 401120, People's Republic of China. Electronic address:

Aims: We aimed to investigate the role of Fasting Plasma Glucose (FPG) and glucose fluctuation in the prognosis of COVID-19 patients stratified by pre-existing diabetes.

Methods: The associations of FPG and glucose fluctuation indexes with prognosis of COVID-19 in 2,642 patients were investigated by multivariate Cox regression analysis. The primary outcome was in-hospital mortality; the secondary outcome was disease progression.

White matter injury caused by perinatal hypoxia-ischemia is characterized by myelination disorders; however, its pathophysiological mechanisms are not fully elucidated. The neurofascin 155 (NF155) protein, expressed in oligodendrocytes, is critical for myelination. Previous findings suggest that NF155 participates in the pathological mechanisms of developmental myelination disorders in hypoxic-ischemic cerebral white matter lesions, and it might regulate cytoskeletal changes.

Abstract: Metastasis-associated lung adenocarcinoma transcript 1 (MALAT1), a long non coding RNA (lncRNA) present in serum, is an important biomarker for detecting hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC). However, there are some shortcomings in current detection methods. So developing other novel MALAT1 detection methods is necessary.
