Article Synopsis
  • The study aimed to identify and characterize side population cells from three human pancreatic cancer cell lines: SW1990, Capan-2, and BxPC-3.
  • Using flow cytometry, researchers sorted these cells and assessed various traits such as growth, resistance to chemotherapy, and ability to invade and form tumors in mice.
  • Results showed that side population cells exhibited cancer stem cell-like characteristics, including higher proliferation, greater resistance to the drug gemcitabine, and significant tumor-forming potential, suggesting a link to the aggressiveness of pancreatic adenocarcinoma.
