Deoxyribonucleic acid (DNA) methyltransferase contributes to p16 promoter CpG island methylation in lung adenocarcinoma with smoking.

In this study, the relationship between CpG island methylation and smoking and DNA methyltransferase in the occurrence and development of lung adenocarcinoma was explored by detecting p16 promoter methylation status. Protein and mRNA levels of p16 were detected by immunohistochemistry and in situ hybridization assays. p16 gene promoter and exon 1 CpG island locus Hap II sites methylation status was analyzed with the methylation-specific PCR.

Adenomyoepithelioma with carcinoma of the breast: A report of two cases and a review of the literature.

We herein described two cases of adenomyoepithelioma (AME) with carcinoma of the breast. Both of them were Japanese women, and they presented with a mass in their breast. Post-operative specimens revealed encapsulated and well-circumscribed tumors with local invasion, necrosis, cytological atypia, and a high mitotic rate.

Tongue acupuncture in treatment of post-stroke dysphagia.

Tongue acupuncture is a technique that treats illness through acupuncture applied to the tongue. This study was designed to assess its therapeutic effects in the treatment of post-stroke dysphagia. A clinical control study was conducted with randomly selected 180 patients with post-stroke dysphagia.

Myofibroma of the Left Supraspinous Muscle on 18F-FDG PET/CT.

Myofibroma of the muscle is extremely rare. This report describes a 46-year-old man with myofibroma of the left supraspinous muscle on 18F-FDG PET/CT and includes MRI and 18F-FDG PET/CT findings. Whole-body 18F-FDG PET/CT showed abnormal tracer uptakes in the left supraspinous muscle, which was subsequently confirmed as myofibroma by histopathology.

18F-FDG PET/CT Findings of Metastasis to Spongy Body of Penis From Urothelial Carcinoma of Bladder.

The spongy body of the penis metastasis from other primary sites is a rare clinical entity. It is frequently associated with widespread metastatic disease and poor prognosis clinically. We report a case of a 61-year-old man with a previous history of cystectomy due to infiltrating urothelial carcinoma of the bladder 12 months ago and presented with penile shaft swelling pain and hematuria for 3 months.

Localized Airspace Consolidation of Pulmonary Alveolar Proteinosis Mimicking Malignant Lesions in 18F-FDG PET/CT Imaging: One Case Report.

Pulmonary alveolar proteinosis is a rare lung disease caused by diffuse, abnormal intra-alveolar surfactant accumulation. Here, we report a case of autoimmune pulmonary alveolar proteinosis with heterogeneous accumulation of F-FDG in both lungs shown on the combined F-FDG PET/CT.

Metastatic Malignant Fibrous Histiocytoma in the Stomach: Imaging With 18F-FDG PET/CT.

Metastatic malignant fibrous histiocytoma (MFH) in the stomach is extremely rare. We report a 73-year-old man with MFH in the left popliteal fossa that metastasized to the stomach. Whole-body F-FDG PET/CT showed abnormal tracer uptakes in the stomach, which was subsequently confirmed as metastatic MFH.

Apolipoprotein c3 gene polymorphisms are not a risk factor for developing non-alcoholic Fatty liver disease: a meta-analysis.

Context: Our objective was to evaluate the effect of gene polymorphisms of apolipoprotein C3 (APOC3) on the development of non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) in different populations.

Evidence Acquisition: We performed a meta-analysis of all relevant studies published in the literature. A total of 115 clinical trials or reports were identified, but only seven trials met our inclusion criteria.

Contralateral needling at unblocked collaterals for hemiplegia following acute ischemic stroke.

Hemiplegia caused by stroke indicates dysfunction of the network between the brain and limbs, namely collateral shock in the brain. Contralateral needling is the insertion of needles into acupoints on the relative healthy side of the body to treat diseases such as apoplexy. However, there is little well-designed and controlled clinical evidence for this practice.

Feasible Method to enable clear visualization of suspected bladder cancer with 18F-FDG PET/CT.

Methods: Routine and delayed scans of 14 patients were retrospectively studied. All these bladder lesions were confirmed by pathology.

Sorafenib in liver function impaired advanced hepatocellular carcinoma.

Objective: To explore the efficacy and safty of sorafenib in Child-Pugh class B to class C hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC).

Methods: In this three-center open-label study from November 2011 to May 2013, we randomly assigned 189 patients with advanced Child-Pugh class B or C HCC patients into two groups, one group with 95 patient to receive sorafenib (400 mg a time, twice a day) and the other group with 94 patients to receive best supportive care. The primary end points were progression-free survival and overall survival.

Epstein-Barr virus gene polymorphism in different parts of the same nasopharyngeal carcinoma patient.

In most previous studies, comparisons of Epstein-Barr virus (EBV) gene polymorphisms and genotypes were made between strains from tumors and normal throat washings (TWs) from different individuals. However, it remains controversial whether different EBV subtypes are present in different parts of the same NPC patient. In order to address this question, in this study, we compared the genotypes in sets of paired throat washings (TW) and paraffin-embedded tissues of 20 patients with nasopharyngeal carcinoma (NPC), and we found the same genotype in throat washings (TWs) and tumor cells from the same individual in most cases.

[Effects of high-dose N-acetylcysteine on the lung tissues of rats exposed to silica].

Objective: To explore the effects of high-dose N-acetylcysteine on the lung tissues of rats exposed to silica.

Methods: Ninety-six Wistar rats were randomly divided into model group, intervention group and control group (32 rats for each group). The rats of model group and intervention group were exposed to silica by intratracheal infusion of silica dust suspension.

However, given that lateralization is the uniqueness of the humans, many researchers neglect the differences between the left and right hemispheres when selecting the middle cerebral artery occlusion (MCAO) in rats. The aim of this study was to evaluate the effect of ischemia in the dominant hemisphere on neurobehavioral function and on the cerebral infarction volume following MCAO in rats.
