July 2021

National-Regional Key Technology Engineering Laboratory for Medical Ultrasound, Guangdong Key Laboratory for Biomedical Measurements and Ultrasound Imaging, School of Biomedical Engineering, Health Science Center, Shenzhen University, Shenzhen, China. Electronic address:

Fundus diseases classification is vital for the health of human beings. However, most of existing methods detect diseases by means of single angle fundus images, which lead to the lack of pathological information. To address this limitation, this paper proposes a novel deep learning method to complete different fundus diseases classification tasks using ultra-wide field scanning laser ophthalmoscopy (SLO) images, which have an ultra-wide field view of 180-200˚.

Article Synopsis
  • The study investigates the incidence and risk factors of retinopathy of prematurity (ROP) in extremely low birth weight infants in South China over a 15-year span.
  • Analysis of medical records revealed that out of 1,099 infants, 50.7% had ROP and 29.9% had severe ROP, with the highest incidence occurring in the first 5-year period (2004-2008).
  • The results indicate that from 2009 to 2018, there was a slight increase in ROP cases, and gestational age was found to be the only significant risk factor for both ROP and severe ROP among the infants studied.
