Previous genome-wide association studies (GWAS) have identified potential genetic variants associated with the risk of major depressive disorder (MDD), but the underlying biological interpretation remains largely unknown. We aimed to prioritize genes that were pleiotropically or potentially causally associated with MDD. We applied the summary data-based Mendelian randomization (SMR) method integrating GWAS and gene expression quantitative trait loci (eQTL) data in 13 brain regions to identify genes that were pleiotropically associated with MDD.

Recent studies showed that in patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM), Sodium-dependent glucose transporters 2 inhibitor (SGLT2I) may cause potential adverse effects on the skeleton such as increasing the risk of fracture. This risk is possibly mediated by effects induced by all SGLT2I class drugs, but whether Dapagliflozin aggravates osteoporosis in patients with T2DM remains controversial. Therefore, we designed this study to explore how Dapagliflozin affects the metabolism and the quality of bone in T2DM animal models.

Intracarotid cold saline infusion (ICSI) brings about neuroprotective effects in ischemic stroke. However, the involvement of serum and glucocorticoid‑regulated kinase 1 (SGK1) in the underlying mechanism of ICSI is not fully understood; therefore, we used the rat middle cerebral artery occlusion (MCAO) model to investigate the neuroprotective effects of ICSI on ischemic stroke in rats, as well as the involvement of SGK1 in these effects. ICSI decreased infarct size and brain swelling, as determined by 2,3,5‑triphenyltetrazolium chloride staining and the dry‑wet weight method, respectively.
