Department of Pharmaceutics, College of Pharmacy, Chongqing Medical University, Chongqing 400016 China. Electronic address:

Loading drug-maleimide (MAL) conjugates into liposomes preloaded with glutathione (GSH) can prepare the liposome encapsulating GSH-conjugated prodrugs, which serve as a feasible way to construct liposomal formulation. However, the effects ofthelinker on the development of this liposomal system remained unclear. Herein, docetaxel (DTX)-MAL conjugates linked by various linkers were used for such studies.

The eye is considered to be an immune-privileged region. However, several parts of the eye have distinct mechanisms for delivering immune cells to the injury sites or even in response to aging. Although these immune responses are intended to be protective, the visual acuity can be compromised by the release of pro-inflammatory cytokines by immune cells, which induce chronic inflammation and fibrosis.

Gram-negative bacteria infections in diabetic wounds are complicated to control, leading to amputation and even death in severe cases. There is an urgent need to develop effective therapeutic strategies. In recent years, electrospinning has attracted much attention due to its resemblance to extracellular matrix (ECM), which can regulate local cellular proliferation, migration, differentiation, etc.

Background And Purpose: Diabetic wounds are serious chronic complications of diabetes and can lead to amputation and death. Although considerable progress has been made in drugs and materials for treating it, it's still an urgent clinical problem as the materials and drugs have potential therapeutic drawbacks, such as low delivery efficiency and poor tissue permeability. To promote diabetic wound healing, a composite of thonningianin A (TA)-loaded chitosan nanoparticles (CNPS) encapsulated by a Pluronic F-127 (PF-127) hydrogel (TA-CNPS-PF) was developed in this study.

Article Synopsis
  • Metastasis poses a significant challenge in treating colorectal cancer (CRC), with cancer-associated fibroblasts (CAFs) playing a crucial role in this process.
  • The study investigates the effects of visfatin, an extracellular protein, on CAFs and how it influences CRC metastasis through mechanisms involving inflammatory factors and the JAK-STAT signaling pathway.
  • Results show that visfatin enhances the invasive and migratory abilities of CRC cells by activating inflammatory responses in CAFs, suggesting that targeting this interaction could be a potential therapeutic strategy for CRC.

Introduction: It is difficult to detect acute low-tone sensorineural hearing loss (ALHL) because of only low-frequency hearing loss and atypical early symptoms. The etiology of ALHL is still elusive, and psychosomatic factors influence deafness and tinnitus. Therefore, this study aimed to clarify the correlation between psychosomatic factors and the incidence of ALHL to facilitate the prevention of ALHL.

Department of Neurology, The Second Affiliated Hospital of Chengdu Medical College, China National Nuclear Corporation, 416 Hospital, Chengdu, Sichuan, 610000, China. Electronic address:

This study aimed to investigate the association between global cognitive functioning (GCF) and fear of falling (FOF) in a large population-based sample of adults aged 45 years and older. A total of 2997 and 2012 participants from the original sample were included in the cross-sectional and prospective models, respectively. Participants were re-coded to 'no FOF' and 'FOF' based on their self-reported responses, and those who reported FOF at follow-up were defined as the newly-developed FOF group.

Estrogen: the forgotten player in metaflammation.

Front Pharmacol

November 2024

West China School of Pharmacy, West China School of Basic Medical Sciences and Forensic Medicine, West China School of Public Health and West China Fourth Hospital, Sichuan University, Chengdu, China.

Metaflammation is low-grade inflammation triggered by chronic metabolic imbalance and caused by dysregulated metabolites in metabolic inflammatory syndrome (MIS), which includes four diseases: obesity, type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM), atherosclerosis (AS), and nonalcoholic fatty liver diseases (NAFLD, recently proposed to be replaced by metabolic dysfunction-associated steatotic liver disease, MASLD). These diseases exhibit apparent sex dimorphism as regards MIS. Estrogen not only plays a crucial role in gender differences in adults but also possesses an anti-inflammatory effect on many metabolic diseases.

Primary cilia are microtubule-based organelles that function as cellular antennae to address multiple metabolic and extracellular cues. The past decade has seen significant advances in understanding the pro-tumorigenic role of N-methyladenosine (mA) modification in tumorigenesis. Nevertheless, whether mA modification modulates the cilia dynamics during cancer progression remains unclear.

Department of Hand Surgery, The Second Hospital of Jilin University, Changchun, Jilin, 130041, China; Joint International Research Laboratory of Ageing Active Strategy and Bionic Health in Northeast Asia of Ministry of Education, Changchun, 130041, China. Electronic address:

Diabetic peripheral neuropathy (DPN) is a prevalent complication of diabetes mellitus (DM), significantly contributing to the risk of amputation and mortality. Reactive oxygen species (ROS) can induce both neurological and structural harm through direct impact and pyroptosis, underscoring the critical role of ROS regulation in mitigating DPN. In this research endeavor, we propose harnessing the inherent antioxidant properties of sulfhydryl groups by grafting them onto gold nanodots through an amidation reaction, resulting in the creation of ROS-responsive AuNDs.

  • This study investigates the link between genetic variations (SNPs) in the Endothelin type A receptor (EDNRA) and the risk of large artery atherosclerotic stroke (LAA) among Han Chinese patients.
  • Researchers analyzed data from 428 LAA patients and 434 matched control subjects, focusing on 16 SNPs in EDNRA alongside mRNA/protein levels and inflammatory factors.
  • Findings revealed that the rs5343 TT genotype of EDNRA significantly elevates LAA risk and is associated with increased levels of the inflammatory marker NLRP3 and specific cytokines, suggesting an inflammatory mechanism in this association.

The important role of ferroptosis in inflammatory bowel disease.

Front Med (Lausanne)

October 2024

School of Biological Sciences and Technology, Chengdu Medical College, Chengdu, China.

Ferroptosis is a type of regulated cell death that occurs due to the iron-dependent accumulation of lethal reactive oxygen species (ROS) from lipids. Ferroptosis is characterized by distinct morphological, biochemical, and genetic features that differentiate it from other regulated cell death (RCD) types, which include apoptosis, various necrosis types, and autophagy. Recent reports show that ferritin formation is correlated to many disorders, such as acute injury, infarction, inflammation, and cancer.

In patients with abdominal or pelvic tumors, radiotherapy can result in radiation-induced intestinal injury (RIII), a potentially severe complication for which there are few effective therapeutic options. Sitagliptin (SI) is an oral hypoglycemic drug that exhibits antiapoptotic, antioxidant, and anti-inflammatory activity, but how it influences RIII-associated outcomes has yet to be established. In this study, a pH-responsive metal-organic framework-based nanoparticle platform was developed for the delivery of SI (SI@ZIF-8@MS NP).

Article Synopsis
  • - The study aimed to assess how urinary iodine concentration (UIC) and post-stimulatory thyroglobulin (ps-Tg) levels affect the effectiveness of radioiodine therapy in patients with differentiated thyroid cancer (DTC).
  • - Researchers analyzed data from 213 DTC patients, noting that while UIC changes were linked to ps-Tg levels, they didn't significantly relate to the overall treatment outcomes measured.
  • - The findings indicate that ps-Tg levels are important for predicting therapeutic success, but UIC, despite its correlation with ps-Tg, cannot be used reliably as a prognostic factor for DTC patients.
