Association between tumor markers elevation and poor functional outcomes after acute ischemic stroke: a longitudinal stroke center-based study.

Objective: Previous studies revealed that the elevation of serum tumor markers (TMs) can serve as a prognostic indicator for diseases other than cancer, but little is known about its association with acute ischemic stroke (AIS). Based on a series of molecular markers and gene pathways shared in both stroke and cancer, we aimed to investigate whether the elevation of TMs could predict clinical outcomes after AIS.

Methods: Patients diagnosed with AIS were enrolled and classified into the elevated TMs group and the non-elevated TMs group according to whether any TMs were elevated or not.

Background: Since March 2022, the COVID-19 epidemic has rebounded widely and frequently in China. Healthcare workers have faced grand challenges such as soaring COVID-19 patients, being busy with the nucleic acid screening of all the populations in the epidemic areas every day, and testing positive for COVID-19, all of which contributed to anxiety easily according to the Conservation of Resources theory. However, anxiety among healthcare workers is not only associated with personal health but also adversely affects the quality of health services.

Introduction: We aimed to explore the respiratory tract infection after oral and maxillofacial surgery under general anesthesia and related factors.

Methodology: A total of 494 patients receiving oral and maxillofacial surgery under general anesthesia with tracheal intubation were assigned to a non-infection group (n=469) and an infection group (n=25). Another 494 healthy people undergoing physical examination in the same period were enrolled to establish a classification tree model.

Development and validation of a SEER-based prognostic nomogram for cervical cancer patients below the age of 45 years.

In this study, we established a nomogram for the prognostic prediction of patients with early-onset cervical cancer (EOCC) for both overall survival (OS) and cancer-specific survival (CSS). The Surveillance, Epidemiology, and End Results (SEER) database was used to identify 10,079 patients diagnosed with EOCC between 2004 and 2015; these cases were then randomly divided into training and validation sets. The independent prognostic factors were identified in a retrospective study of 7,055 patients from the training set.

Evaluation of a novel biodegradable ureteral stent produced from polyurethane and magnesium alloys.

Indwelling ureteral stents represent a very frequently used procedure in urological clinical practice that ensures the drainage of urine from the upper urinary tract. However, the stents could result in many stent-associated complications, such as encrustation and patient discomfort. We developed a new type of biodegradable ureteral stents produced from degradable polyurethane and magnesium alloys.

Development and validation of a nomogram to predict the prognosis of patients with gastric cardia cancer.

Our goal was to develop a prognostic nomogram to predict overall survival (OS) and cancer-specific survival (CSS) in patients with gastric cardia cancer (GCC). Patients diagnosed with GCC from 2004 to 2015 were screened from the surveillance, epidemiology, and end results (SEER) database. A nomogram was developed based on the variables associated with OS and CSS using multivariate Cox analysis regression models, which predicted 3- and 5-year OS and CSS.

Surgical Compliance and Survival Outcomes for Patients with Stage T1-2 Non-Small-Cell Lung Cancer.

Introduction: Our aim was to determine the relationship between surgical compliance and survival outcomes in patients with stage T1-2 non-small-cell lung cancer (NSCLC).

Methods: Patients with T1-2 NSCLC who were diagnosed between 2004 and 2015 were identified from the SEER database. Multivariate logistic regression was used to analyse factors associated with surgical compliance.

Our aim was to analyze the clinicopathological features of lung, liver, bone and brain metastasis in patients with endometrial cancer (EC). We screened patients diagnosed with EC between 2010 and 2015 from the Surveillance, Epidemiology and End Results database. Among 69,027 eligible EC patients, lung metastasis was the most common.

Treatment of advanced gallbladder cancer: A SEER-based study.

Purpose: The treatment of advanced gallbladder cancer (GBC) remains controversial. Therefore, the purpose of this study was to explore treatment choices for advanced GBC.

Methods: We identified four different treatments from the surveillance, epidemiology, and end results (SEER) database: surgery, chemotherapy (CT), surgery and chemotherapy (Surgery + CT), and no surgery/no chemotherapy (No surgery/No CT).

Lumican (LUM) is differentially expressed between normal and cancer tissues. The purpose of this study was to investigate the role of LUM in the proliferation and migration of bladder cancer (BCa) cells. Our study included 97 cases of BCa diagnosis from our hospital between June 2013 and June 2016.

Flavonoids from the roots of Artocarpus heterophyllus.

Four new flavonoids, artoheteroids A-D (1-4), together with six known ones (5-10), were isolated from the roots of Artocarpus heterophyllus. Their structures were elucidated by spectroscopic methods, including 1D and 2D NMR, UV, IR, CD, and HR-ESI-MS. All isolated compounds were screened for their inhibitory abilities against cathepsin K (CatK).
